It has been 100 days since Dave's heart attack. Seems forever ago, but also not? He passed his swallow test so he no longer has to eat on his special diet and no longer has to have his drinks thickened. He is being discharged from In Home Rehab to Out Patient at the facility so he gets to use the big boy equipment Cognitively, his immediate short term memory resets about every 2-5 minutes. His past memories are somewhat resurfacing, but in fragments and in the wrong timeline. He gets very overstimulated and agitated still. He still has issues remembering names and faces. Sometimes he remembers a face but not the name and vice versa. Some of you have noticed he is now posting or responding. If he posts or says weird stuff just roll with it. He is also very emotional. A lot of crying (happy, sad, frustrated, etc.) We are just meeting ourselves where we are all at for the day. Day by day. The Miracle Man's journey continues. We are still years away from recovery. It is a slow slow sloowwwww process but damn he is making me proud. Again, thanks to everyone for reaching out, your donations, just caring in general. It really means a lot both of us. And as a and more. (Please excuse the grocery delivery)
Hello All. On May 13, Dave had a massive heart attack. He was in VFib for about two hours which caused a traumatic brain injury due to lack of oxygen to his brain. Because of the brain injury (anoxic bilateral hippocampi) his memory and mobility isn’t so great. We have finally been able to move him to the rehab center that is known for their work in traumatic brain injuries. He will be receiving Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Therapy to begin. He also has a Nutritionist, Neurologist and Cardiologist on his team. This is going to be a VERY long process, and we do not know how it will turn out so please be patient. What to say about David Miner. He started his professional career in Special Effects for movies (Bride of Chucky, Starship Troopers, FaceOff, Astronaut's Wife and more). He then made the move to the LAPD (20+ years) where he spent the majority of his career in Gangs and Narcotics and finally his current career as instructor for a company that provides local, government and school officials how to respond appropriately to "situations." He is a very loving and involved father to 3 kids and a great husband As you know, we have three kids that we need specific people to care for them and that isn’t cheap. Also, as the rehab is almost 2 hours away and with gas prices as they are, that would be helpful for myself and for Sr. This money (or hotel points) will go specifically towards child care, gas and hotel stays so Sr and I can be there to participate in his therapies as recommended. As most of you know, we are not ones to really ask for help so I really appreciate you taking the time to reading this.
