<div>For years, she has wrestled with this relentless adversary, trying countless therapies, medications, and interventions to no avail. Despite her unwavering determination to conquer this horrible disorder, she finds herself at a crossroad, and desperately in need of resources beyond her means. After getting an opinion and then a second opinion, her last “hope” is to access the ‘Gold Standard’ of treatment-resistant depression, which is Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT). This therapy would require substantial copayments and four weeks out of work (while she is inpatient in a hospital) and time away from her children. That means four weeks with no income, as she is the head of her household and recently experienced significant cut backs at her job.

<div>Today the Loring Family had an unexpected and unimaginable loss, their sweet JJ passed away overnight. JJ was loved by many, he was a loving son and an amazing brother, he brought happiness and joy to everyone he who knew him!!!

<div>JJ was diagnosed with Fragile X as an infant and the doctors didn’t think he’d survive his first two years of life, but JJ was strong and determined (and a little stubborn) and he proved those Drs wrong by living a full life in his short 28 years with his family.

<div>JJ loved Fire Trucks, in fact he let his sister, Dawn, know that he wanted to live in a Fire House. He liked stealing her clothes to “transform into the Hulk” and loved using his tablet to watch YouTube. He had a silly side and liked to mock his mom and his sister and tell them they were “fired”, he found himself hilarious and would laugh at and copy his sister when she had the hiccups, this is the way his sister described him and these are the times they choose to remember with fondness. JJ loved his cartoons, Paw Patrol was his favorite!!! And like Dawn said, “he was just a lovable goofball”!!!

<div>Meera's needed a liver transplant since February 2020. I remember because it was just as the pandemic was getting started. When I got the news about her needing the transplant, I flew to MA from AL, gave her a big hug, and she promptly got COVID. I'm very helpful.

<div>It's been a long journey for Meera and Chad. Thirty months of her being too sick for work or normal life, but not sick enough to qualify for a scarce organ. Thirty months of needles to pump in needed blood and needles to pull out peritoneal fluid that uncomfortably distends her belly. Much of that time with a hernia that she's too sick to get fixed.
</div>

<div>In the last few months, things have accelerated. Qualifying for a liver quickly enough in MA didn't look likely, so they decided to uproot and move near a different medical center. Closed their business, sold their home, packed the senile dogs and all the other stuff, and made a slow journey to a rented home in Oxford NC, thirty minutes from Duke Medical Center.
</div>

<div>They spent several challenging but hopeful weeks with Duke's great caregivers - the kind that clearly care. Meera's full time job was to submit to pokes, prods and interviews. Chad's full time job was to cart her back-and-forth to the hospital and make their new house a home. The new team at Duke told them that the challenge is no longer being too healthy for a transplant, but being too frail. So her job is to fight to get and stay healthy enough for the ordeal.

<div>Last Thursday, they got the tough news that Meera did not qualify for a spot with the Duke transplant team. She was instead referred to Virginia Commonwealth University. VCU, they say, will be a better place for her. So now, Meera and Chad begin the qualification journey again at a center 2 hours from their new home in NC.

<div>Below is written by Eli's dad, Kevin: <br /><br />My son Eli was struck by a car on Monday night while cycling home from work in Seattle WA. It was his last day of work before traveling back east for the Holidays and his 26th Birthday. Instead of coming home to celebrate with family, he is now in the Hospital recovering from multiple injuries, most notably a back injury that required surgery to implant screws and rods that will support his fractured vertebrae. He now faces a long road of recovery and rehabilitation. For those who know Eli, you know he is up to the task and will put his all into getting back on his feet.
</div>

<div>Eli the adventurer, runner, Eagle Scout, woodworker, LARPing enthusiast, student, boyfriend, and most of all a kind and caring man, is the first to jump in and help a person in need whether he knows them or not. Eli is now that person in need. The driver of the vehicle who fled from the scene of the accident has left Eli with physical, emotional, and financial stress. He will have several weeks, if not months, of recovery and therapy before being able to return to work at the lumber yard.
</div>

<div>Would you please consider helping Eli as he works towards recovery? I am asking all of his friends, family, colleagues, classmates, and people who care for others the way Eli cares, to offer any support during this challenging and difficult time.

<p>Nicolas Hadley, 19, was involved in a car accident on December 23, 2017, just two days before Christmas. Nicolas was a passenger in the car with his girlfriend, Ashley St. Onge, 19, and one other friend, when the car hit a patch of black ice and began to swerve out of control. Ashley was able to regain control of the car and pulled off to the side of the road. She was terrified to continue to drive and asked Nick to take over so they could make it home safely in the brutal weather conditions. Nick and Ashley both exited the vehicle in the breakdown lane to switch seats and continue home. As they were walking across the front of the vehicle, Nick heard a sound, he looked up and he saw bright lights; that is all he remembers of that night. The vehicle Nick was in was hit by a tractor trailer that hit the same patch of ice that they had just slid on, that tractor trailer was not able to regain control as they were and collided with the vehicle that Nick and Ashley were standing in front of. Nick suffered severe head trauma, broke two vertebrae in his mid-lower back, and lost his girlfriend that night. She was too young to pass away and it is a horrible loss not only for her family and Nicolas, but for everyone that knew her. Nick will now live the rest of his life asking himself: Why? Why did he live and she pass away, why could he not do anything differently to assure that nothing like this could have happened to the girl that he loved? How? How can two people standing not even 5 feet apart have such different outcomes from such a horrible accident and how does he move on to regain his strength and lead the rest of his life. One of the first things Nick asked when he regained consciousness, was how Ashley was doing, he was devastated to find out that she had not made it and he had. When I visited him in the hospital, one of the first things he asked me, was "I mean, who's fault is something like this?" and I did everything I could to reassure him there was nothing he could have done differently. The pain I could see in his face when he asked this question, was not the same pain from the 37 staples across his head or from the broken back, this pain was deeper. I could feel that Nick felt responsible for something that no person involved in the situation could have done anything differently to prevent. This was truly a freak accident of nature. Nick suffered more in those short few moments than most people will have to endure over a lifetime, and he needs help. Nick has done really well his entire life at trying to better himself. He finished High School with good grades, went on to College as an aspiring nursing student, while working full-time, and attending to his social life and most importantly his girlfriend and family. Anyone who knows Nick knows that he is always happy, joking, dancing, singing, always able to cheer up other people who are upset, angry, or even just feeling "off". He is always putting in 100% in everything he does. No one deserves to have something as horrible as this to happen to them and Nick is no exception. He is a loving son, a good friend, a loving boyfriend, and most importantly an amazing person, anyone who has ever met him will agree. If anyone is able to help in any way, please do. Anything you can do will be more than greatly appreciated not only by him and his mother, but by all the people who wish they could do more to help them. Nick is 1/2 the income of the family, and he and his mother have an apartment that they will need to pay rent to keep, on top of the astronomical medical bills he will incur as a result of this terrible accident. He will have to go to physical therapy for his back for quite some time, and will not be able to return to work for at least a few months. If you are able to help in anyway, whether it be a financial donation, a ride to his physical therapy, even just home cooked meals, to give them one less thing to worry about, anything will help. Nick should be able to leave the hospital soon, but as of today, Christmas Day 2017, he is still there recovering.<br /><br /></p>

<p>At the start of this fundraiser for Nick the intention was to be able to take care of his daily, weekly, and monthly expenses and financial needs. I never expected more than a few dozen donations. As all who have viewed this fundraiser can see, Nick is someone who has affected countless people in a positive way. He is one of the naturally happiest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He is able to brighten any room he enters and to make all those he encounters better people. With the initial plan to lighten the economic burden he will incur from this whole situation nearly being successful, I think we can do more for the person who has been able to be such a strong influence to those around him. I want to try to help Nick and his mother, Lorraine, to alleviate the financial stress of the surgeries, procedures, medications, and physical therapy he will require in the coming months. Nicolas Hadley's Accident Recovery

Our sweet 7 year old daughter is one of the four lights of our life but is one of kind in her love of life, fashion, art, reading and of course her sisters.  The second week of August we were enjoying a relaxing week on Martha's Vineyard when we started to notice Norah was limping a bit and as the week went on the limp became a worse.  We decided we should get her leg checked out on our way home from the Vineyard so Tim dropped us off  at Winchester Hospital Sunday afternoon thinking he would pick us up in a couple hours with a knee brace.  An hour later I called to say we were going by ambulance to Children’s Hospital Boston.  Four hours later we received our first MRI and 7 hours later at 2AM in the dark of night we were told she had a mass in her brain the size of a tennis ball.  Monday morning we were told she would need immediate brain surgery.  Tuesday morning the surgery occurred and the news spiraled from there.  We were told she had an aggressive tumor that was sitting against her motor cortex and they were only able to resect 80% of the tumor.  We then heard she had a Glioblastoma Multiforme tumor which has a very low survival rate.  We were given two choices do nothing and she would succumb to the tumor or resect the remaining tumor and she would lose motor functioning in the left side of her body.  Doctors have tried for two weeks now to help us realize that if we did surgery Norah would lose motor function and more than likely the tumor would come back.  <br /><br /> <br /><br />Doctors are about numbers and statistics and when I asked the neurosurgeon how many patients have survived without a full resection she said 0 and then I asked how many patients have survived with a full resection she said she has had 5 patients in her 25 year career.  So I then promptly said well now you have met NUMBER 6! <br /><br /> <br /><br />So  we believe in our heart and soul Norah is #6 and we are not hurting our daughter by resecting the tumor on her motor cortex, we are saving our Norah and her mind her heart, her intellect, her spunk, her drive, and her inspiration for life.  A child with a physical disability is a child who may have an uphill climb but please and thank you for that uphill climb and we will walk/roll right along side her every step roll of the way.  <br /><br /> <br /><br />Surgery is scheduled for Wednesday September 2 and this is our fight song!<br /><br /> <br /><br />But the reason for our gofundme page is all of this will come with incredible cost and change to our lifestyle.  We will make every accommodation to our home needed to make it wheelchair accessible and for her to feel independent and successful.  We will go and embrace every therapy that she needs both cancer related and motoric abilities related.  We will move mountains for her but simply ask if our loving community and family and friends can pitch in to help in any ways possible.  <br /><br /> <br /><br />We are Norah STRONG!

<p>On June 10th 2015, I was admitted to the emergency room with agonizing lower back and lower abdominal pain. I also could not urinate. I was given an MRI of my lower back, and it was then they discovered several lesions obstructing my spinal cord. </p>
<p>By this point, I had began to lose sensation in my lower extremeities and by the time I was admitted into hospital 6 hrs later, I could not feel anything below my waist. <br /><br />My wife and I met with several Drs over the course of the next 7 days. Neurologist, Neurosuregeons, Internists, Urologists, Pyschologist, Rheumatologists, you name it, I saw it. I was also given a full body MRI and it was found that I had several more lesions up and down my entire spinal cord. After a week of intense steroid therapy and daily blood work, my Drs being stumped at my condition and rapid deterioration, gave me a diagnosis of "Demylinating Myelitis". Essentially a catch all of my neurological deficets due to the lesions on my spine. But no true answers.<br /><br />On June 17th 2015 I was sent to an inpatient rehabilitation facitility to continue with physical and occupational rehab. I pushed myself. I remember thinking at times, this was physically and mentally more exhausting then my time in basic training. I spent 10 years serving my country in the US Army, so for me to not be able to do simple things such as using the bathroom on my own...suffice to say, didn't sit well with me. Not to mention, I spent my first Father's Day, in a hospital room in a wheelchair, hardly able to hold my son.<br /><br />I continued to progress through rehab, however after a month of being off work and essentially living off of my wifes income, we were forced to move from our apartment and into her parents house. </p>
<p>I was released from rehab with a day rehab program in place, several follow up dr appointments, and positivity as I felt my symptoms were seeming to improve. </p>
<p>The first week of August, I was given a follow up MRI and it was there that they had discovered that some of the lesion had either shrank, or were gone completely. Unfortunately, several sets of lesions actually grew and were continuing to spread across my spine. </p>
<p>It was with that, that my Dr. diagnosed me with Multiple Sclerosis. If you are unfamiliar with the disease, its manageable, however it leaves me in severe pain through the course of the day, and sometimes unable to pick up and play with my son. </p>
<p>As I am sure you can deduce from me even starting this account, I need help. The medications, therapy, drs, and treatments for MS are extremely expensive and life long. Throughout the course of myself being off work for over 2 months, my wife and I both had to take loans against our 401k's, drain our savings, and look for financial assistance from the drs, hospitals, and insurance company. Unfortunately, its not enough.</p>
<p>I am a proud person and its against everything inside of me to even sit here and ask for your contribution, but I am doing this for my wife and my son. I cannot let them face this financial hardship and I will do whatever I can to make sure they do not have it.<br /><br />Any contribution will help!</p>
