<div>Hello world!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My name is Kythera. I’m a super geeky nerd; I draw stuff, I make epic grilled cheese sandwiches, and I’m obsessed with gargoyles (and <em>Gargoyles</em>). I’m also queer, neurodivergent, and cannot drive (disability). Professionally, I'm a mid-career technical writer/editor/proofreader/Atlassian admin/manual QA tester, and all-around documentation Swiss Army knife. I thought I'd hit my stride in my career, but that thing everyone dreads happened at the end of November 2024: "reduction in force."
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I've been diligently looking for a new job ever since. I took every class, workshop, and presentation I possibly could through the career transition program that was part of my severance package. I've pushed the limits of my neurodivergence to network, network, network. Tailored, intentional applications? You bet. Personalized cover letters? So many.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I've followed all of the most current, up to date, highly recommended advice and best practices that flood LinkedIn and spill from the optimized, keyword-loaded promoted posts by Top Voices. I've applied to more than 300 jobs since December 2024, and I've had 5 interviews (made it to the final round for 3 of them) but each one went with another candidate.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Despite the reassurances that "it's not [me], it's the job market,” this has been brutal. I’m at the end of my resources. My unemployment benefits and severance package have been exhausted. I’ve already taken early withdrawals from my 401K to keep bills paid.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I'm not proud about setting this up. I wish I didn't have to. I'd much rather be signing an employment contract than pleading my case, but that's not my current reality. I'm setting this up because my resources will only last another month or two at best. At any given moment, I’m living precariously close to not being able to pay bills. I’m asking for help BEFORE the last of my resources are gone in hopes that I can keep going with less panic and without the fear of losing everything.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While I continue looking for full-time employment (on W-2 with benefits), I’m working on upskilling and pursuing certifications, leaning on my creative skills as a side-hustle, and managing a couple of 1099 independent contracts (no health benefits, no taxes withheld).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I need about $6000 per month to keep all of my bills paid: rent and utilities (including phone and Internet service), insurance (and the medications that allow me to function), and other necessary bills (like food and transportation).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I don't want to lose my home. I don't want to lose my cats, who are the feline equivalent of Pinky and the Brain but nonetheless very good potats. These are my precious sons, Cole (left) and Zeus:

<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you're able to chip in, it means the world. If you have a job lead for a technical writing or editing position, I'd love to hear about it! I have the kind of skills and experience that Ai can’t replicate. Even the best Ai-powered helpdesk systems can’t function without high-quality documentation developed and maintained by actual humans, and that’s where I come in.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I would much rather be working full-time than asking strangers for help, but the current reality is what it is.
</div>

<div>I never thought I'd be the one asking for help like this, but life has a funny way of throwing unexpected curveballs our way.
</div>
<div>In just a few days, on March 5th, I'll be embarking on a journey that I never anticipated—a journey towards healing and restoration. On that day, I'll undergo surgery to remove a pancreatic mass, part of my pancreas, spleen, and a small section of my stomach.
</div>
<div>As I embark on this path towards healing, I'm facing not only the physical challenges but also the financial strain that comes with it. The medical expenses, hospital stay, and necessary diet adjustments are overwhelming, especially without a full-time job to rely on. Despite my efforts to freelance, the projects are fewer than usual, adding to the financial stress. Living in Port Chester, NY, with Álvaro is quite different, and the daily expenses are significant. In the coming weeks, I'll need to focus all my energy on recovery, which means I won't be able to work at my fullest capacity.
</div>
<div>But as I always say since Maria: Half a day at a time.
</div>
<div>So, here I am, reaching out to you with a heart full of gratitude and hope.
</div>
<div>It's a humbling experience to admit that I need assistance, but thankfully, I'm surrounded by amazing friends who are offering their support in any way they can.
</div>
<div>Your contributions, whether through donations or simply sending your healing vibes and positive thoughts my way, will make a world of difference in my recovery.
</div>
<div>As March 5th approaches, I ask for your continued love and support.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
</em>
</div>
</div>
</em>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

SallyMo's Healing Journey After Surgery

<p>The COVID-19 Delta variant is ruthless. And it's left a loving young family without their husband, father and provider.
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>On Monday, July 21, 2021, Will Brooks tested positive for COVID-19. At the time, he'd been experiencing only a few allergy-like symptoms. By Friday of that week, he was admitted to a Houston hospital with a blood oxygen level of 83. Less than a week later, he was in ICU. His wife, Katherine, wrote to friends:
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>"The hardest thing is, I’m pretty sure if he had heard about the delta variant and how it is affecting people in their 30s and 40s and how communicable it is, he would have gotten vaccinated. But he didn’t get to hear about the delta variant and get a shot because he already had the delta variant. He is the cautionary tale he needed, and I wish more than anything he could have stayed safe just until it hit the news, because then he’d be vaccinated and safe. He's the strongest person I know and he's on life support and dialysis, in a coma, with a chest tube and a ventilator. It could really be any of us."
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>Will's oxygen saturation kept dropping despite doctors' efforts to increase his ventilator settings. He passed during the wee hours of Aug. 17.
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>Will leaves behind not only his amazing wife, Katherine, but also their adorable daughter Carter, who hadn't yet even turned 4 months old when her dad went to the hospital.
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>Katherine is a local teacher who no doubt does wonders for our community. She has used all her PTO during her recent maternity leave, and because she hasn't hit one year at her new school district, she is ineligible for FMLA.
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>The coming days and months will be incredibly difficult for Katherine, so let's all pitch in and do what we can to reduce her financial worries so she can focus on picking up the pieces and learning to navigate life as a single mother.
</p>
<p><br />
</p>
<p>Thank you for your support and prayers.

Help Katherine navigate life as widowed mom

On Saturday night (8/1), three men engaged each other in a shootout on the 200 block of North Simpson Street in Philadelphia. When it was over, 7-year old Zamar Jones was shot in the head by one of their stray bullets as he sat on his front steps playing with his toy race cars.<br />.<br />A Philadelphia Police Officer rushed the boy to the hospital in critical condition. Sadly, Zamar passed away from his wounds yesterday afternoon.<br />.<br />One of the gunmen was chased down and arrested by a responding officer. The other two men are still on the loose.<br />.<br />Zamar was set to begin 2nd grade next month, and is remembered for always helping out on his block. He would regularly do chores for his neighbors and run to the corner store if they needed something. When the students in his class held up signs to show what they wanted to be when they grow up, Zamar held one up that said “Future Police Officer”. #justiceforzamar

*UPDATE*<br />I am amazed that we reached our original goal of $1,500 for my goat, Ren, so quickly. I am extremely grateful for all of the donations and shares. Thank you! Unfotunately, the vet updated us today and Ren has had a couple of complications regarding his wound. When we arrived at the hospital, we were shown a couple radiographs comparing his leg when he was first admitted to this week. Part of the bone has died because it was exposed to the air, and in order for him to continue healing he needs to have surgery to have that section of his bone removed. We were allowed to visit him, and as soon as Ren saw me he immediantly perked up. We were told that he's eating and drinking normally, and overall he seems completely healthy, aside from the fact that his wound isnt healing as hoped. This means that he will need at least 3 more weeks of hospitalization, plus the costs of surgery, and that raises the initial bill  by quite a bit. Assuming there are no complications, the surgery will allow Ren to walk painlessly instead of constantly limping. Please help us reach our new goal and give Ren a chance to live a happy, pain free life.<br /><br />*Any money left over from Ren's medical expenses will be donated to the Langham Creek FFA program to help with future medical issues like the one Ren is going through. Thank you all so much for your consideration, donations, and shares. <br />                             *ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION*<br />This was my first year in FFA, and I chose to raise a goat. Everything was going perfectly at first-but then he got into an accident. Ren jumped out of his pen, and in the process he badly lacerated his back leg when it caught on some protruding metal. We took him to the vet and were told to just wash it out daily and care for the wound so it stays clean. It was slowly healing, but he started to develop a fever so we took him to a different vet (the A&amp;M Large Animal Hospital) and they said he needed to be hospitalized for at least a week. According to the vets , there's no way possible for him to be show ready by february, so instead we planned to let him happily live his life out on a pasture, but only if he can heal. That's the part we need help with. The costs of keeping him alive and happy are more than we can afford right now, and the only other option for him is to be put down. I refuse to allow my baby to be euthanized because of a simple cut on his leg, but we can't pay for the veterinary bill and they won't let us take him home until the bone's covered up. All I'm asking for is just a couple more days of veterinary care for him, but unless we get the help we need then we'll have to put him down, and I can't betray him like that. Ren trusts me more than anything, and I can't give up on him, especially since he has a chance to live a happy life as someones adorable little lawn-mower. By donating to our Goat-Fund Me, you can help Ren get the care he needs.Please help us save Ren's life.<img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/16876238_1482204540.9424_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/16876238_1482204558.6535_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/16876238_1482204573.0837_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />

Ren's Veterinary Care

Hi.  First let me thank you for taking time to read this and considering donating to our cause!  I want to tell you a little something about an amazing kid I know and love.  My friend's son, Ryan, is 9 years old.  He is a fun, loving, and caring guy who has truly taught me a lot in the time I've known him.  I have learned more about my daughter and myself from him.  He brightens up the room when he walks in it and greets you with a giant smile and hug.  He is one of my daughter's best friends.  She is 6, and he plays with her and watches out for her like a big brother.  Once, to make her happy he danced with her in the kitchen after dinner (which was a selfless act because the boy really doesn't like to dance).  He's an incredible kid!<br /><br />Ryan, or as his family calls him, "Rhino," was recently diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called chronic myelogenous leukemia.  The prognosis looks good for Ryan, but the only drug that can be used for his treatment costs $600 a day.  The doctors think that he will need to be on the medication for at least 2 years.  That's roughly $438,000 for medication alone.  It would mean a lot to him and his family if you could help.  Without treatment, the doctors give Ryan an estimate of 2-5 years of life.  Any little bit can help Ryan.  Thank you for your donation, and please spread the word.

Photographer Faith Massey takes pictures for families facing loss of a child.  Her story made the news when her camera bag was stolen just after capturing these treasured moments for the family of Baby Amari. (<a href="http://www.wcnc.com/story/news/local/2015/02/03/photographer-pleads-for-photos-of-babys-first-last-moments/22818717/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">http://www.wcnc.com/story/news/local/2015/02/03/photographer-pleads-for-photos-of-babys-first-last-moments/22818717/</a>) Remarkably, the camera card was returned to her and the family she served.  Now many of the families who have faced infant loss and cherish the work of kind artists like Faith want to help her replace the stolen equipment-- as a thanks to her and to all those who reach out to grieving families.  If the story of Faith's work touched you and you would like to help, please join us in raising money to replace the stolen equipment.<br /><br />Update to the story on WCNC: <a href="http://www.wcnc.com/story/news/features/2015/02/18/stolen-images-of-babys-first-last-moments-recovered/23616003/" target="_blank" class="" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">http://www.wcnc.com/story/news/features/2015/02/18/stolen-images-of-babys-first-last-moments-recovered/23616003/</a>

<br />Claire is a happy 5 year girl who loves to play with her dog "Princess", color, spend time with her Mama and Daddy and family members, play dress up and watch Scooby Doo and Princess movies. She was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma when she was 3 1/2. After enduring 42 weeks of chemotherapy, and 10 weeks of radiation, she received scans showing cancer was no longer present in July. Last month, we received news that she has 5 tumors in her lungs and lymphnods. The tumors are unable to be removed. Her father and I have chosen to celebrate each day with Claire realizing that their is no cure for her cancer. I want the world to know that this little girl was always excited to go to the hospital to see her "doctor friends" and never felt sorry for herself. The world has shown us a miracle! The miracle is that a little girl can smile through the most difficult of times and spread joy and that a community can come together and honor her. The world is a great place! I would like to thank Jamie Karr for supporting our family and organizing the wonderful Princess Day.
