<div>On Saturday, December 6th, our lives took a terrifying turn.

<div>My wife and I had been gone for just two hours. When we returned home, we immediately heard our 4-month-old puppy, Onyx, barking in panic upstairs — something completely out of character for him. We ran up the stairs, and what we saw next is something no pet parent should ever have to witness.

<div>Xena was lying on her side inside her crate, gasping and choking for air, barely conscious.

</div>

<div>Her gums were pale.

</div>

<div>Her tongue was swollen and weak.

</div>

<div>Her whole tiny body was struggling desperately to breathe.

<div>We truly thought we were losing her.

</div>

<div>We pulled her out of the crate and immediately began CPR efforts — chest compressions and rescue breaths — trying everything we could to help her breathe. But it quickly became clear that this was far beyond what could be handled at home. We knew we had to get her to an emergency hospital immediately if she was going to survive.

<div>We grabbed her, ran to the car, and rushed to the nearest emergency hospital, calling ahead so they could prepare. The ER team immediately pulled her into treatment. Her breathing was so compromised that she had to be placed into an oxygen ICU chamber, sedated, and supported medically just to stabilize her oxygen levels.

<div>For hours, her oxygen saturation wouldn’t rise on its own. Her body was in shock. Her blood work showed stress markers and inflammation. She fought for every breath.

<div>After what felt like an eternity, she finally stabilized — but not without a serious diagnosis:

<div>This is a congenital breathing disorder common in flat-faced breeds like French Bulldogs. Her airway tissues can collapse inward when she gets stressed or breathes too hard, blocking airflow and causing suffocation episodes — exactly what happened to her.

<div>This wasn’t because she swallowed anything. This wasn’t from playing too hard.

</div>

<div>This was her anatomy collapsing against her.

</div>

<div>And without corrective surgery, it can happen again — suddenly, unpredictably, and potentially fatally.

<div>The ER vets explained that BOAS surgery is strongly recommended for Xena to prevent another crisis. The procedure opens and stabilizes the airway so she can breathe safely for the rest of her life.

My mommy took me to the vet to get me neutered and get my shots. She noticed an ear infection and had the vet clean my ears up really well and put medicine in them and they are so much better. I’m needing surgery on my eyes. My lashes turn into my eye lids called entropian. The vet quoted a really high price so we have been searching for more reasonable places. Mike is the kind of guy to walk away from the typical 9-5 secure job he got his degree for and dedicate his life to helping others. My dad has spent the better half of the past decade creating his nonprofit from the ground up and every day he beneficially impacts the lives of others.

<div>Mike Carlson always dreamed of working with people and animals in a way that would impact their lives for the better. In 2019, he founded Golden Healer Service Dogs — dedicating his life to healing others. He does this, not with medicine, but with the unconditional love and healing power of dogs. As the CEO, Mike has spent years transforming lives by training therapy dogs to work for the public and service dogs for individuals battling mental health challenges, physical disabilities, and emotional trauma. His passion and hard work have brought many people comfort and beneficially changed the lives of children &amp; adults with autism, individuals with PTSD, and others with autoimmune disorders — just to list a few.

<div>On July 8th, Mike suffered a stroke — a terrifying and unexpected moment that changed everything. During his week-long hospitalization, doctors discovered what they believe to be the root cause of his stroke: an atrial myxoma, a rare and potentially life-threatening tumor in his heart. <strong><em>To save his life, Mike must now undergo open-heart surgery.</em></strong>

<div>Mike, being the entrepreneur that he is, and dedicating all his time and money into his dogs, unfortunately can’t afford health insurance and therefore did not have any when his stroke occurred. The mounting medical bills from his stroke were burdensome enough, but he also has his upcoming open-heart surgery that he needs to find the funds for. He is currently recovering from his stroke and should be taking things easy, but unfortunately, he has been trying to get right back to work trying to care for his dogs, family, and community all while trying to make ends meet. Fifteen days after his hospitalization, he did a therapy dog visit at the same hospital just to show his gratitude — that's just who he is as a person. However, two weeks out of work has significantly put him back financially, and after his surgery, he will be unable to work again for potentially two plus months. Without immediate financial help, his future and the future of Golden Healers — his life’s mission — hangs in the balance.

<div>Edward Layton (Eddie) Grampp III - husband of Mary, and father of Eddie IV, Jacob, McKaylee, and Molly, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, surrounded by his loving family after a 13-year courageous battle with glioblastoma, a malignant brain tumor that takes most lives within 18 months. He fought HARD-- for his wife, his kids, and his family, for 13 years! Bittersweetly, he now rests-- reunited with his precious little girl, McKaylee Belle.

<div>I was in a major motorcycle accident on June 2nd 2017 on the 405 in Los Angeles. At the time I was pursuing a graduate degree in Vocal Performance at UCLA. I was actually on my way to the final dress rehearsal of an opera when I was hit.

<div>After four months and 13 limb-salvage surgeries, I decided I was done trying to save my leg - I was tired of fighting the losing battle and I knew I needed to get moving again for my physical and mental well being.
</div>
<div>At the time, I was an Interrogator and Farsi Linguist (Sergeant) with the California National Guard’s 225th Expeditionary Intelligence Unit. I had been in for seven years, had met other amputees, and knew plenty of guys who’d had limb salvage operations that left them with lifelong pain and debilitations. I was an avid body builder and understood my best chance was to move forward with the amputation so I could avoid pain and future injury.
</div>
<div>On September 28th 2017, the Orthopedic Surgery team at the University of Utah amputated my left leg above the knee.

<div>I spent the next several weeks recovering, meeting other amputees at support groups, and rebuilding my strength. I took my “first steps” on November 17th.

<div>I continued to struggle while learning how to live as an amputee, but I was determined. I got back to school and held roles in more operas. I traveled the country to sing in professional choruses from Los Angeles to Miami and multiple places in between. I returned to the gym and began to rebuild; I’d lost nearly 60 pounds during the four months I was out of commission.

<div>I returned to personal training and began training clients in Hollywood, working mostly with folks in the “industry.” I adopted a rescue husky, Rascal, who - like me - was missing his rear left limb. We’re twins!

<div>As the pandemic wore on and work was scarce in Los Angeles, I took an opportunity to join the clinical care team with the prosthetic company that built my first prosthetic. In February of 2021 I moved Rascal and I back to my hometown of Salt Lake City and I’ve spent the last few years working with new amputees - coaching and educating them through the months following surgery. I love being able to show my patients that there is life after amputation. It has been the most rewarding work of my life.

<div>My friend, Mason, introduced me to the sport of wheelchair fencing. He is also an amputee and he’s been my steadfast colleague. Together we have worked to build a program that empowers new amputees to take back ownership of their lives. He found the sport a couple of months previously and invited me to practice one night. I fell in love instantly.

<div>Two months later I was competing in my first North American Cup in San Jose, CA, and brought home two bronze medals.

<div>As some of you may know, our wonderful dog Lucy suddenly lost the ability to walk on and feel her hind legs on Saturday night. She got an MRI done and it showed a severe disc herniation with an epidural hemorrhage causing T8-T13 constriction. (To those of you that aren't in med school, like me, one of her spinal discs kind of exploded and compressed her spinal cord just behind her shoulders - Murray) She was unable to feel deep pain (basically had no automatic response from pain, which meant the nerves weren't firing from her legs up and back down her spine - Murray) and without surgical intervention ASAP, it would be too late for her to make any recovery, let alone a full one. The big fear was that the spinal cord bruising would spread and we would have to put her down (known as myelomalacia - Levina). Of course, we did not hesitate to go through with the surgery. Though she has less than a 50% chance of walking again, we want to do what we can to keep her healthy, happy, and in our lives.

<div>Unfortunately, the surgery alone was 12k, which does not include physical therapy or possible wheelchair costs. <div>Tyler is a tow truck driver and has loved every second of it. Scott Schofield (dad) showed some concern with his occupation; but Tyler loved what he did and wanted to do it well. During his shift on 4/20/23 Tyler was thrown an unfortunate fate. He was traveling on Legacy HWY and a piece of metal broke through the windshield and impaled his face. He was taken to Murray Hospital where he is currently undergoing the first of many surgeries and a long recovery. He may have lost his ability to see in both eyes

<div>On 12/8/22 we received notification of an emergency rescue operation near Cleveland, OH, that required our help. GRRAND was notified that 33 Goldens and Goldendoodles, some pregnant, had to be picked up immediately. They were purely a transaction for this breeder and he would discard them the  cheapest way possible.  On 12/9 at 4 am the rescue team headed to Cleveland to arrive by 10 am.

<div>We've transported 10 of these dogs to Louisville, and we're preparing for additional transports next week of 1 poodle and 10 labs. Three of the dogs we have transported so far are pregnant! One delivered a litter of 9 puppies the day after the rescue. She required an emergency C-Section to assist with the birth, but the puppies and Mama are doing fine.

<div>The 33 Goldens and Goldendoodles have been rescued from this breeder. None of them have names. They were merely identified by the last 4 digits of their microchips! All of them are terrified and visibly sad. They will need so much work to become socialized enough to be family members.

<div>Hi my name is Katy.  My brother is Christopher Lee Hancock aka Huggy Bear as we call him. Chris is the kind of person who goes out of his way to help others succeed and to lift others up. He is that person who literally takes the shirt off his back for someone, who supports countless others in their hour of need. He has been the hero to many, and now we have a wonderful opportunity, to be his hero.
</div>

<div>At the beginning of the COVID pandemic in late 2019, Chris ended up in the ICU with the flu.  His wife was told he would not make it and she needed to say her goodbyes.  His wife Anna ended up in the ICU the same week a few days later with the flu as well.  Both Chris and Anna survived but with permanent disabling challenges.  
</div>

<div>During his time fighting for his life Chris also developed a necrotic pneumonia infection, further complicating his care.  Chris is a fighter though and held on and fought his way back to us.  The infections left Chris with a condition called bronchiectasis. He has since been oxygen dependent 24/7. The condition frequently causes his lungs to fill with fluids and mucus.  Further complicating things he has developed environmental allergies and asthma since having the flu.  Chris has to do several breathing treatments every four hours just to be able to breathe now.  He has been fighting this battle for just under 3 years now.  
</div>

</div>
<div>During that three years he has adapted and improvised as best as he can to overcome the debilitating condition and continued to work full time as an emergency medical dispatcher. He and his wife (who was also an emergency medical dispatcher until becoming permanently disabled) used the last of their savings to purchase two portable oxygen concentrators to get him mobile and out of the home again in 2020.  
</div>

</div>
<div>Chris loves his job and serving the community, he has served in his position for over 15 years now as a dispatcher.  Chris has maintained a positive attitude and outlook throughout these challenges.  Chris has often been heard saying things like, “life is precious”, “others have it worse,"
</div>
<div>“I could have been worse off, I’m still here and I’m grateful to be alive.”  
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Chris recently has had a decline in quality of breathing that caused him to see his pulmonologist. He was on 8 liters of oxygen and still his oxygen saturations would drop as far down as the 70’s at times and often to the low 80’s.  
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>It was during the outpatient visit when it was determined it was too dangerous to treat him outpatient anymore.  He was quickly admitted to the hospital. While hospitalized the doctors found through imaging and other diagnostics that he has a collapsed left lung, several new nodules in both lungs, severe mucus plugging in both lungs, a hietal hernia, severe anemia, a stricture preventing anything thicker than water from being able to pass into his intestines, which, resulted in a bleeding ulcer, malnutrition, and other complications.  Most of these issues will be resolved in just a matter of time with exception of the lung condition.  
</div>

</div>
<div>When released from the hospital, Chris will now need to attend pulmonary rehab three times a week in addition to his other treatments.  
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In order to get back to work he will need to purchase and replace at least one new portable oxygen concentrator that goes up to 6 liters as canisters will not provide enough for the commute and a full shift.  
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Chris’s employer and team at work have been incredibly supportive, understanding, and accommodating over the last three years.  He considers himself blessed to be part of such an amazing team of individuals. 
</div>

</div>
<div>Like most families, Chris and his family need to have medical insurance. Chris is the only member of his immediate family that is able to maintain employment with medical benefits.  He hopes to be able to get well enough to go back to work full time again asap so that he can continue to provide until he is eligible for full retirement.  His biggest fear is losing their home and their insurance as a result of not being able to return to work.

Medical Emergency support

<div>My 5-year-old autistic great-nephew was riding a bike when he got too close to a truck that was pulling a trailer. He got pulled under and was run over by the trailer. He was taken by ambulance to McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah and then was life flighted to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City in critical condition. He has a lacerated liver and multiple fractures around his pelvis. Doctor's are waiting to do any surgeries until his condition improves, unless his internal bleeding becomes worse. His mother, who is a single parent, will be taking medical leave from her job to stay with him at the hospital and then to care for him at home once he is released. Money is being raised to help cover medical expenses, meals for his mother, my niece, while she is staying at the hospital, and to cover the cost of bills while she is away from work. <div> Hi, my name is Danette and I am a family friend of Nishelle Harris-Miles. Nishelle was taken from this Earth during the devastating Hurricane Ian. Nishelle and her sister, cousin, &amp; family friend had been vacationing in Ft Myers celebrating Nishelle’s 40th birthday.

<div>Hurricane Ian hit the area. While they were shielding from the storm it blew the windows out of their Air BNB home and the home began to fill with water. They tied themselves together on a mattress to stay afloat. The roof collapsed on the home and a nail punctured Nishelle’s neck taking her life, all while her sister was there holding onto her hand for comfort. The girls were rescued by a neighbor 16 hours after the hurricane hit but they had to leave Nishelle behind. Now we need to help this family to get her home and give her the celebration she deserves.

<div>Nishelle was the life of the party. She loved her family and friends and would do anything she could to help them. Nishelle leaves behind 4 children who miss their mother dearly. Hurricane Ian took Ohio women life family in need

<div>On Tuesday, September 21, 2022, around 4 am, Ashley and JJ Dasher were attacked in their home. They were both stabbed multiple times. One of JJ’s lungs collapsed, and both of Ashley’s did. Ashley had to have exploratory surgery, where they found a hole in her diaphragm; it has been repaired.
</div>

<div>Their child slept through the entire thing and was awoken by the police and taken next door. He did not witness anything.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The attack was completely random. Ashley and JJ have no ties to who attacked them.
</div>

<div>Because of the incident, Ashley and JJ have incurred the unexpected costs of medical bills and getting their home back in order. Ashley has not yet met her insurance deductible and needs $8,900 to cover it. The deductible for their home insurance is $1,000. They are also going to need therapy to help process the trauma.

Dasher Family Support

<div>We are sponsoring three generations of a family from Ukraine.  They have left their hometown of Kryvyi Rih to escape the atrocities that Russian Occupation forces have brought to their doorstep.  The family comprises grandma (Nadiia Zhmur), both parents (Vitalii Holovchenko and Natalia Sokolviak) and two adorable children (Dymtro Sokolviak and Marharyta Holovchenko).  In Ukraine, they had everyday Ukrainian lives -  going to work, paying bills and raising a family.  Grandma worked in the markets, and dad was a technician for the local mining company, while mom stayed home to raise the children.
</div>
<div>As the war raged on in the east, they watched as the brutality of war threatened their town.  Hearing aircraft and missiles cruise across the sky, always praying that none were destined towards them. Finally, with the heavy fighting just a few dozen kilometers away, they planned their travel to the US.
</div>
<div>They had a limited number of bags to fill.  Their new life in the US would all be built only on what they decided to place in them.  The first leg of their journey was a day-long train ride across the country to the western city of Lviv.  From there, they were able to take a car ride to Poland. Then, they had a two-day wait for their one-way ticket to Los Angeles. Finally, after 12 hours in the air and over 3 hours getting through border security, they were officially welcomed into the US.

<div>This family has been through so much.  Has given up so much.  And due to their circumstances could use so much. Unfortunately, due to their entry into the US, they are not yet permitted to work. However, they are not the type to ask for a hand-out, so I consider this a hand up.

<div>We received news late Tuesday night that while visiting her home country, Vietnam, our beloved Jenny Hart's mother suffered a stroke. Our hearts are aching for Jenny and her family. Jenny's trip back to Vietnam was supposed to be a beautiful reunion of family and friends. Sadly, it has now been overshadowed by this tragic situation.

Hi friends and family. 

If you look at Gabby’s life just 3 months ago, things were so different for her. She had hopes for the new year and she was healthy. In February, she’d gotten extremely sick. She was battling Covid for the second time, and had simultaneously developed an infection that went up into her kidney. She was hospitalized for a week, depending on oxygen, had a nephrostomy tube placed, and came home with a PICC line to administer IV antibiotics. Gabby was home for a few weeks after that, and just as she started to get better, the infection came back and she was hospitalized for another 4 days. Gabby has been struggling with her kidney for many years now. And lately things have continued to go south, with her infections becoming more and more frequent, and significantly worse each time. Gabby has one kidney, no bladder, and has a urostomy that isn’t draining properly. This is the cause of her frequent infections, stones, and kidney swelling. Every time she gets sick, it puts more strain on her solitary kidney and will eventually cause her renal function to completely deteriorate. Gabby has taken extreme measures to reach out to specialists for help, to which she gets turned away because her anatomy is so different. Her local urologist told her that if her health continues at this rate, she may only have 10 more years to live. Gabby deserves more time, and we don’t want to reduce her life to a timeline. Recently, she met with a team of reconstructive surgeons in Salt Lake City, Utah, who are eager to help Gabby. They knew right away they’d need to operate to fix her chronic kidney problems, and after her recent hospital admissions, they pushed to do the surgery within the next few weeks. Gabby’s reconstructive surgery will be on May 25th, and will be a 10 hour procedure. They will be operating on her kidney, ureter, and stomach wall. She’ll be in the hospital for a minimum of 2 weeks, and following discharge, she’ll need to stay in Utah near the hospital for a month or two in case of post-op infection. Gabby is on a fixed income right now, and while we’re so lucky insurance is covering the procedure itself, she cannot afford to stay in Utah for over a month based on her income alone. After pricing housing close enough to the hospital, we’re looking to spend beyond her earnings to accommodate her and the family, on top of additional medical expenses during her time away in Utah. The family will also be commuting from Idaho daily/weekly to be with her. Although hopeful, Gabby is extremely nervous and scared for surgery, and to be away from home for so long while she recovers. Worrying about how she’s going to afford to stay in Utah, and covering other medical costs for the time being, should be one less thing she worries about. Darryl had emergency brain surgery last Wednesday 10/6 to remove a tumor on his brain. The neruo oncologist delivered the news to Darryl and my sister Angela Spignese yesterday that the tumor was a form of Glioblastoma. This is an extremely aggressive type of cancer and Darryl will need 2 years of continuous radiation and chemotherapy in addition to a device called Optune. Darryl is a person who feels that he was put on this earth to help people. Angela met Darryl in the Peace Corps where they were both volunteering, he served in Afghanistan as a marine and is a teacher for students with disabilities. He really is just a beautiful person. <div>Hello, my dear friends Todd and Kristin and their homeschooled son, were over 2,000 miles from home on a cross country road trip when their Ford F-250 and almost all of their belongings were stolen from their hotel parking lot in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had packed three weeks worth of multi-season clothing, shoes, camping gear, hiking gear, DSLR cameras and lenses, binoculars, food, homeschool books and many other supplies to last throughout their three-week trip. All of that was stolen along with the truck which was locked and parked in a well-lit area. They have filed a police report and an insurance claim, however insurance will only cover the vehicle itself, $250 worth of the contents of the vehicle and a rental car for long enough to help them get back home. Since the vehicle was stolen, insurance won’t pay until at least 20 days have passed since the theft and the family will need to have a rental vehicle during that time and until they are able to buy another suitable vehicle.

<div>They estimate that the contents of the vehicle will cost at least $10,000-$12,000 to replace. <p>This is Ofa, he is the first dog I have ever loved like a human. He is constantly by my side. I love him so much. He was hit by a car Sunday in front of our home as we were getting out of our truck from a trip to Salt Lake.

<p>We immediately called the local vets who said given the severity to take him to VetMed in Salt Lake. (His organs were pushed outside his body) We spent the night there, borrowed the money from family to cover his stay and thought we had been lucky.<br /><br />Well sadly today he took a turn for the worse and was rushed back. They need to amputate, give him a blood transfusion as well as another possible surgery for the fluid build up in his abdomen. He is in too much pain to even come home at this point.

Family Home Lost in House Fire

Hello everyone my name is Kaitlin and I am coming to you all today, as hard as this is, to ask for your help. This is the best doggie in the world her name is Jolene. Jolene has been in my life for 3 years we got her as a little puppy and have loved her since day one. She is the most loyal and loving dog you will ever meet. When I was pregnant she would sleep with her head on my stomach, and no one was allowed past the door in my bedroom if I was asleep. She has always been my protector. When I had morning sickness she would sit with me in the bathroom and would not leave until I was able to get up. She never once left my side she wouldn’t even let a stranger come up to my car without letting them know to not get too close. Now that I’ve had my son she is his protector now no one is allowed to come in our house unless we let them in. She follows my little boy everywhere. He calls her “dean” instead of Jolene that was one of his first words he ever said. Jolene needs our help. This Sunday we were getting ready for church and I squatted down to pet her around her ears (her favorite spot) and I noticed her lymph nodes were huge. I called our vet on her personal cell and asked what I should do. She said get her to the er clinic ASAP. There we discovered her white blood cell count was through the roof. Most of her levels were so high the test would not read. Then I heard the Doctor says words that shook me to my core he said “ma’am I am certain your pup has lymphoma.” I lost it right there. I decided to get a second opinion because I know that’s always best so I went to our usual vet on Monday 08/03/2020 there we were told all her levels that make them assume lymphoma are high. All of her lymph nodes are severely swollen. We sent the fluid of them off to see exactly what it is, and how bad it is. As fur parents we have decided if we can afford it we are going to do the chemo treatments since she is only 3 we hope that she will respond well. The bad news is the treatment cost around $5,000 and we have already racked up around $600 in medical bills. I wanted to go ahead and get this page going, because regardless if it is not lymphoma we have to discuss other infections and what not that it might be so financially we are still going to be looking at a lot. I know money is so tight for everyone right now. We own a small business ourselves, and we want to save our dog but as parents we have to keep our son and his needs in mind as well. If you can’t donate prayers are a very appreciated donation as well. I know God has the power to heal my dog, and right now that’s what I am praying for is a miracle. Even if it is just a dollar. It will mean so so much to my family. My little boy and I both would be so thankful if we are able to keep her with us longer. As long as she shows us she still wants to live we are going to fight.
