<div>My uncle, <strong>Sengsadaphone Phongsavanh—Seng, Thee, or Matt to us</strong>—has always been the baby of our large family. When he was just five, my grandmother made the brave choice to flee Laos, escaping the Secret War. She and his older siblings worked tirelessly in sewing factories and berry fields to build a new life in America.

<div>In his twenties, my uncle made one mistake, but he turned his life around and committed himself to doing the right thing. For nearly 30 years, he complied with every immigration check-in and work permit renewal, always holding a job and contributing to our community. Then, everything changed. His last three applications for work permits were denied, and suddenly, he found himself unable to work. In desperation, he began the process of self-deportation.

<div>On April 11, 2026, just two days before his scheduled immigration check-in, in Portland, Oregon, everything changed. At 10 AM, three ICE officers knocked on his door. He didn’t resist. When his wife asked permission for a hug and final goodbye, they denied her. Handcuffed, he was taken away, leaving us all in shock and fear. We had no idea where they were taking him or how to find him. The last location his phone pinged was at a field at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Ridgefield, WA.

<div>Through a friend, we connected with the Defend Migrants Alliance, who reached out to the Portland Immigration Rights Coalition. By 5 PM that day, we learned he was at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, WA. We scrambled to add money to his commissary and heard from him that night. He revealed that ICE had received his approval to self-deport to Laos back in January 2026, but it was now set to expire on April 30, 2026. He was booked into detention and remained separated from his wife, daughter, dog, and the rest of us, until this afternoon, when they deported him to Laos.

<div>It was two weeks of a nightmare that could have been avoided had his paperwork been handled properly. He wanted to leave on his own terms, but ICE failed him. They failed all of us.

<div>My name is Adrian, and as some of you may know, I am Angel's brother. I am writing this on behalf of our family during this difficult time. My brother passed away this past Wednesday, April 9, 2025. This is perhaps the most challenging thing our family has had to endure, and as I'm typing these words, it is hard for me, or anyone for that matter, to even think about him being gone. I know he was loved by many, had a huge heart, and anybody that knew him can attest to it. My brother would want us to remember him smiling and laughing, to remember him and think of the best and happiest memories he left us all with. My brother loved Leo, his son, his pride and joy, his everything. He spoke so highly of him and he always came first; he truly loved him more than anything in this world.  His priority was to always make sure that Leo was okay and he was taken care of. Now that he isn't here, we will do so by continuing on for Angel.

<div>Our beloved Savannah was involved in a severe accident and is fighting for her life. Due to the accident, she had to undergo craniectomy surgery. She is currently recovering in the hospital and will remain there for the unforeseen future. She will also need multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation in the coming months. This sudden ordeal has impacted the family greatly. We are humbly reaching out to friends and family for help. Any donation, big or small, will be greatly appreciated, as it will lessen the burden of medical and personal expenses. Savannah is a beautiful soul. Hello Family and Friends,<br /><span style="font-size:1.0625rem;">Asking for help is not an easy thing to do.   Many of our family and friends have asked how they can help so we decided as a family to create this GoFundMe for my brother John and we are humbly reaching out at this time because our family needs it. </span><br /><br />Early New Year's Day my big brother John was having a hard time breathing and became lethargic. My sister in law Alisha called 911 and John was taken to the local hospital via ambulance.   After a few hours, the doctors called and said that John had Covid pneumonia and was going to be admitted due to low levels of oxygen.   Never would we have imagine that 7 weeks later,  John would still be in the hospital fighting for his life!  He has been through so much, after 16 days in the hospital he became hypoxic and the emergency response team had to rush in and the decision to intubate him was made immediately, there were no other alternatives.   Since being transferred to the ICU isolation, John has had to undergo 5 different surgery procedures while being on the ventilator, but with the power of prayer and the grace of God he has made it through each procedure and continues to show improvement every single day. <br /> <br />Anyone that knows John knows that he's a big teddy bear that puts on a tough guy act. He is one of the funniest guys in the room at any given time, always laughing and telling jokes.  My brother is a good man that loves his family &amp; friends especially his wife and their 8 kids.   He would do anything for them.  He is a loyal husband, son, brother, uncle, and cousin.  John spends his nights working at a mens rehabilitation facility where he mentors men and encourages them to live their best life while maintaining their sobriety.   John also attends Church and believes in the power of prayer. <br /><br />John's disability has yet to be approved and he has exhausted all of his sick time from work.  Alisha and our family are trying our best to help with the financial burden of having to go from two incomes to one,  but as the weeks go by it's been getting more and more difficult.  We want to thank everyone that has already been involved by praying, making monetary donations and dropping off prepared food and groceries. Your kindness and willingness to help has truly humbled our entire family. It's such a blessing to know how many people want to help because of their love for John. <br /><br />We understand that times are hard, and if you are not able to donate we ask that you please continue lifting John up in prayer. It was only 3 years ago when we were faced with this devastating disease, and today we are here to try and help heal Our Dad, Paul Galope.<br />Paul has been living in the Philippines since 1994, re married and raising Our siblings.<br />The last time Our Dad was in the US and here with us was back in 2004, just a little over 14 years.<br />We have always remained close to Our Dad even clear across the world.<br />Recently, just before Christmas, Paul was given the news of his biopsy results of Adenocarcinoma of the rectum and H. Pylori (stomach bacteria).<br />He is currently on treatment to eradicate this stomach bacteria, and currently with some improvement.<br />Soon after, he had a CT scan performed, that although it doesn’t appear that this cancer is metastatic (invaded vital organs or lymph nodes), it did confirm that this tumor is just under 9 cm.<br />Then this past Monday, he consulted with an Oncologist, and was told that due to the size of the tumor and lymph nodes clearly surrounding, that Our Dad may have Stage 3 rectal cancer and may need to proceed in the proper protocol to remove the tumor and undergo chemo/radiation treatment, and have a transverse colostomy in place.<br />As we clearly understand living in another country, medical treatment are different, and medical care isn’t ran by insurance.<br />The Philippines require the patient to pay for any or all medical treatment up front.<br />Our Dad’s source of income, only covers his monthly bills, education, and routine medical expenses.<br />Now with new medical expenses that will be compiled after the future procedures ahead, we feel that this will financially become a huge burden.<br />We ask all Family and Amazing friends in Our lives, that you help us reach Our goal to help Heal Paul.<br />No amount is too small.<br />Please Pray for Our Dad Paul, my siblings and I, and the Grandchildren during this time.<br />Love and Blessings ♥️
