But today, many families are struggling more than ever. With the rising cost of living, food insecurity, and widening disparities affecting low‑income marginalized families, back‑to‑school season has become a source of stress instead of excitement. Our Community Barbecue & Back‑to‑School Celebration is a free, inclusive event designed to support families who are facing the greatest barriers, and to ensure that every child walks into school feeling prepared, valued, and supported. Why This Event Matters Now More Than Ever Families are making impossible choices: Groceries or school supplies Rent or children’s clothing Transportation or after‑school programs Inflation has pushed essentials out of reach, and the impact is felt most deeply by: Newcomer families adjusting to life in Canada Racialized communities facing systemic inequities Single parents juggling multiple responsibilities Families living in shared or unstable housing Low‑income households who simply cannot stretch their budgets any further Our community is coming together to directly support those families who are too often overlooked. Your contribution helps us provide: Backpacks Filled with School Supplies For children whose families cannot afford the rising cost of notebooks, pencils, calculators, and learning tools. ️ Free Community Barbecue A warm, welcoming meal for families who may be skipping meals to make rent. Kids Zone Activities Games, inflatables, and supervised fun giving children a chance to simply be kids. ️ Self‑Care Kits for Women Supporting mothers and caregivers who often sacrifice their own needs for their families. Food Packages Non‑perishable items to help families stretch their budgets through the first weeks of school. Who We Serve This event is intentionally designed to support: Families experiencing financial hardship Marginalized communities Families facing food insecurity Children who would otherwise start school without the supplies they need We work closely with community partners who serve marginalized groups to ensure that support reaches those who need it most.
