<div>Even as I got faster and we traveled farther. Even when I went to college out of state and competed every weekend from fall through spring. Even when I made Nationals - my parents packed up my little brothers and drove 20 hours to watch me swim two races that lasted a total of 1 minute 15 sections - combined - two years in a row.

<div>This persisted even into adulthood, with him (thankfully) flying out to see my brothers and I swim in the Catalina sprint triathlon, and later when we also 'Escaped' from Alcatraz.

<div>He was always there. Until one day, he couldn't be.

</div>
<div>Nearly 15 years ago, my Dad lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma, a blood cancer that attacks the bone marrow. He passed away just nine months after his diagnosis.

<div>He was my best friend.

<div>For some reason, over the past year, I've found it nearly impossible to get myself back into the water. I'll go to the gym with my suit on...and walk. Or lift weights. Or stretch. I'll do almost anything else. But swimming - the sport that was such a huge part of our lives - has been the one thing I can't seem to do.

<div>PJ is the kind of person who throws himself fully into everything he loves, whether that's skiing fresh powder in Japan, volunteering at community events, or trudging into the backcountry of the Olympic Peninsula to place microphones in the wild.

<div>PJ left a career in tech and gaming to dedicate himself to climate and outdoors work, the kind of unglamorous, boots-on-the-ground effort that doesn't always come with a safety net. Now, he is choosing to hold multiple part-time jobs and pour the rest of his time into the work and his passion for the climate and outdoors.

<div>While his employer is following Washington state leave and proving  healthcare for the short term, there is still a real and immediate gap. His mortgage needs to be paid. His bills don't pause for recovery. This fall also means he has to give up all the part time roles he was excited about that he had lined up for the summer. And the road ahead includes rehabilitation, adaptive equipment, and an uncertain return to work which might be long and expensive.

<div>This morning, our dear friend Lucy’s life changed forever when a devastating fire erupted in her home. Thankfully, she was rescued, but not before suffering catastrophic injuries.

<div>Lucy is currently in the ICU fighting for her life. She has endured severe fourth-degree burns across much of her body and remains on a ventilator as doctors work tirelessly to save her. Help Save My Son’s Life – Fighting Blood Cancer

<div>Cody is the kind of dog who makes everyone he meets smile — endlessly cheerful, full of life, and completely devoted to the little girl who calls him her best friend. The two have been inseparable since the day she welcomed him home, and their bond is something truly special. Cody was adopted by the Mariani family in Feb 2025.

<div>On April 8, Cody was rushed to the ER after suddenly losing the ability to stand or walk. Doctors quickly identified a dangerously low platelet count, and further tests revealed significant internal bleeding caused by a mass in his liver. He remained in the ER for two days under close monitoring.

<div>Over the past couple of weeks, it has been incredibly difficult for the Mariani family to watch Cody slow down and struggle without his usual energy. Their sweet, joyful boy now needs surgery to remove the mass. The doctors are optimistic — they believe that once the mass is removed, Cody will make a full recovery and go right back to living his happy, normal life. While the nature of the mass is still being determined, the medical team feels confident about his prognosis.

<div>The Mariani family has already poured so much into getting Cody the care he needs — over $7,000 in the past few weeks alone, between emergency vet visits, diagnostic tests, and specialist consultations.  The surgery and follow-up care are expected to cost an additional $15,000. They've been doing everything right, consulting multiple veterinarians to find the very best path forward for him. On top of the financial strain, they are carrying an overwhelming emotional burden and stress as they navigate this incredibly difficult time. Their love for Cody is absolute.

<div>I’m reaching out to ask for support for my niece Violet, JC, and their three children—Nala, Keyair, and Carmelo—who recently experienced a devastating fire that has turned their lives upside down.

<div>The fire started in the backyard/balcony area of their townhome/condo and spread quickly, forcing over 30 residents to evacuate. While we are incredibly grateful that everyone made it out safely, Violet and her family lost nearly everything they owned. Unfortunately, they did not have renters insurance, so none of their personal belongings are covered.

<div>Right now, Violet, JC, and the kids are temporarily staying with her parents. Mary her mother is  working tirelessly to help coordinate  the funds including housing and making sure the children have the basic necessities they need during this incredibly difficult time. The current living situation is not a long-term solution, and they are facing the emotional and financial challenge of starting over—finding stable housing, replacing clothing, school supplies, computers for the children’s homeschool program, furniture, and everyday essentials.
