<div>Hi, my name is Benny Dornan, I live in Peachland B.C. I’m starting this fundraiser to help my friend Brian Callow and his family rebuild their mushroom farm, What The Fungus, located in Garnet Valley in Summerland, B.C.
</div>
<div>What The Fungus has been operating since 2014, providing local wineries, restaurants, and people throughout the Okanagan with beautiful locally grown gourmet mushrooms.
</div>
<div>But WTF has always been more than just a mushroom farm. Brian has built an amazing mentorship program where students from across Canada and the U.S. come to stay and work on the farm while learning the business and art of mushroom growing. Over the years, the farm has helped many people gain the knowledge and confidence to grow mushrooms themselves and build something of their own.
</div>
<div>Sadly, the recent wildfire has devastated the farm. At this point, everything appears to have been destroyed, with the possible exception of the Kubota tractor. Brian has not yet been allowed back onto the property and has only been able to see photographs provided by officials, so the full extent of the loss is still to be determined.
</div>
<div>Now Brian and his family are faced with the enormous task of rebuilding what they spent more than a decade creating.
</div>
<div>I’m hoping our community—and everyone who has eaten their mushrooms, worked with them, learned from Brian, or simply believes in supporting small local farms—can come together and help them get back on their feet.
</div>
<div>Funds raised will go toward rebuilding the farm and replacing the equipment, infrastructure, growing supplies, and other necessities lost in the fire. As Brian is able to return to the property and assess the damage, I will update this fundraiser with more information about what was lost and what is needed.
</div>
<div>Any contribution, no matter the size, will help. If you aren't able to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much.
</div>
<div>Let’s help Brian and his family rebuild What The Fungus and get mushrooms growing in Garnet Valley again.

<div>This is a post from Faith Callow....
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Brian started this journey in a small rental space with nothing but an idea. We moved into a place where he could grow that idea, learn, and build something real.
</div>
<div>In 2015, Thor partnered with Brian and saw potential in my husband and moved us into Summerland, where What The Fungus blossomed with the support of so many incredible people. Thor helped build what it was and fought to keep it going.
</div>
<div>Now that it has fallen, the number of people who have reached out has been overwhelming. Brian has lost his life’s work. But I have watched this man grow, learn, endure, and persevere through challenge after challenge. His positivity and his hope for the future—and for the people around him—continue to inspire me.I am heartbroken to see his life’s work reduced to ashes. He built this for us, for our family, he dedicated his book to me, and he fought every single day to keep it alive no matter the odds. My heart breaks for my husband and for our life, but I know he will wake up tomorrow stronger than before, ready to move forward the way he always does.
</div>
<div>To my husband, Brian Callow: you are my rock and my life. Your daughters and I look up to you, and because of your steady care for our homestead, we still have a home.
</div>
<div>This tragedy is not ours alone. It is also Thor’s, who has seen everything on his land destroyed. The loss is shared, and the heartbreak runs deep for all of us.

Help Rebuild What The Fungus Mushroom Farm

<div>
 <strong>Shona Fetter is a fighter.</strong>
</div>
<div>
 She is fierce.
</div>
<div>
 She is fearless.
</div>
<div>
 She is a force.
</div>
<div>
 (And as we all know, her favourite word also begins with 'F'.)
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 And all of these factors <strong>WILL</strong> be her strength in the months ahead as she fights the realities of her recent <strong>inoperable lung cancer diagnosis</strong>. While we do not have a lot of information yet, as a treatment plan will be determined in the coming weeks with further testing and more information, we do know this- even a fierce, fearless, force of nature fighter needs support at times like these. And I believe our community will want to fight with her.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Shona has been a member of the Salt Spring Community for over 3 decades, and whether you know her from The Fulford Inn, Patterson's, Rock Salt, TreeHouse, The Local, Cedar Beach Resort or Home Hardware, you can almost certainly say she served you with helpfulness and a bit of edgy humour. Please consider helping her now.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 As Shona faces this upcoming fight, she and Gregor are also facing the reality of lost income, off island appointments, specialized dietary needs, and all the unexpected things that will be added to the costs of living that don't end in a crisis. Asking for help is not something any of us do for ourselves easily, so I am asking for her. 35 years ago Shona became my sister-in-law, and in the time since she has become more than family or friend- she is simply one of my people, so I am asking you to help support her in this fight. Did I mention that she is fierce??
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 Please donate if you are able, share if you can't, and watch for alternative ways to support as they come, if GoFundMe is not an option for you. We will share updates as we know more.
</div>
<div>
 <br>
</div>
<div>
 And a final request- we all know laughter is great medicine, and that is the F adjective I left out at the start... She is <strong>FUNNY</strong>. So please, support that too... we all know that love and support naturally comes with curiosity, but to the greatest extent possible let's keep our Shona laughing to fuel her fierce fight!

 Thank you for reading, donating, sharing, and loving-

Shona Fetter vs. Lung Cancer

<div>Salt Spring Gallery, Artist Cooperative was born in the wake of the 2008 financial crash, in an act of community resilience. Founded by a small collective of artists, the gallery transformed a modest space into a beloved community art hub dedicated to providing a welcoming and affordable space to showcase Salt Spring’s artists. The gallery’s success has been built on the dedicated labour of its volunteer members and myriad art community partnerships.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>After 17 incredible and community supported years at its location on McPhillips Ave,the gallery was told to vacate by June 1st, with the landlord intending to completely renovate the property. After some negotiations, and in consideration of a full year of programmed (guest artist and member) exhibitions, we are excited to share that we can stay until November 30 and carry on as planned, for which we are grateful.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Alas, the 6-month extension carries conditions, like a rental increase backdated to January, as well as a new damage deposit. We also have to prepare for the high possibility of not being invited back to the space following the stated renovations: so, another damage deposit for a new location. Add to that, storage costs after our eviction date until we find our new location. These are unanticipated expenses that are far beyond what our little gallery is able to provide on its own.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The cooperative’s members of have rolled up our sleeves and are working overtime to survive this challenging situation. We are now reaching out to you, our community, to play an active role during this crisis and transition period, to help save Salt Spring Gallery. Our goal is to raise five thousand dollars for the backdated rental increase and damage deposit. Any excess amount raised will go towards storage costs and building a nest egg for our future location.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We truly appreciate your past and continuing support!

Help Save Salt Spring Art Gallery.

As many of you know, Greg died unexpectedly and suddenly, last week.  We would like to help support his family - Andrea, Morgan, and RhiAnnon - at this time when they are bereft. One of their daughter’s, Morgan, is studying full-time away from home.   RhiAnnon, their other daughter, requires  support workers throughout the week when Andrea is at work. Greg was RhiAnnon’s main caregiver.  The Province provides support workers for only a portion of the work-week.  Besides these costly expenses, there are also the unexpected funeral costs and the fees associated with settling Greg's estate. <br /><br />If you feel that you can donate, please do. Also, please consider passing this forward.  Greg had many friends and colleagues across Canada, not just here on Salt Spring Island BC.<br /><br />Greg’s presence and artistic insights will be sorely missed in the  Salt Spring Art’s community.  He always worked outside of the proverbial box and has left some unique projects of his own design undone.  We mourn, along with his family, his large as life presence. He has left a hole that will be hard to fill in our community.

Help Greg Klassen's Family

On Friday, March 10, 2017, my good friend Cheryl Homan was in a terrible car accident while driving in Trail, BC, 4 hours away from her home in Kelowna.<br /><br />After the efforts of Rescue Crews, Cheryl was rushed to Trail Hospital, where she was found to have many injuries, including broken bones and extensive damage to her right foot.<br /><br />Today, Friday, March 31, Day 20 of Cheryl's recovery, she is still in hospital after going through a number of surgeries, with the possibility of more in the future. At this point, we don't know when Cheryl will even be well enough to go home.<br /><br />Cheryl's road to recovery will be long, and the process of healing will be physically, mentally and emotionally draining.<br /><br />During this time, Cheryl won't be able to work, and the stress and pressure of financial responsibilities weigh heavily upon her.<br /><br />My friend Cheryl is an amazing woman, and I hate to see her in this position. I can't do anything to help her heal faster, but with your help, I hope to relieve her of some of the financial stress, so she can focus on getting better.<br /><br />We are uncertain of how long she'll be in hospital, or how long she'll be off her feet once she goes home, but we do know she's looking at several months at the bare minimum.<br /><br />Because of Cheryl's passion for music and connections in the music industry, many of her musician friends have pulled together and will be offering a Fundraising Raising Concert at the Little Red Church in Comox, May 7, 2017. More information will be posted here as we sort the details.<br /><br />Thank you for reaching out and Stepping Up for Cheryl until she's able to step again.
