<p>Help Jon and Sara Get Through Jon’s Recovery
</p>
<p>I’m Jon. For 36 years I’ve worked in IT, the last 21 as a senior infrastructure and platform engineer at the same company, and before that as a soldier in the U.S. Army Reserve. I’m the person teams called when the systems had to stay up and nobody else could figure out why they weren’t. In all that time, I have never been the one asking for help. I’m asking now.
</p><br />
<p>WHAT HAPPENED
</p>
<p>In January I was hospitalized with severe intestinal complications. Since then I’ve spent all but eight days in a hospital. In April, still in a hospital bed, I went on short-term disability. On July 14th, the company I’d given 21 years to let me go. No severance.
</p><br />
<p>Today I’m in a medical rehab facility working to get my strength back. I don’t yet have a date for when I can go home.
</p><br />
<p>WHERE WE ARE NOW
</p>
<p>My wife Sara has carried all of it alone since January: the household, the bills, the drive to the hospital and back, the calls with insurance, and a version of this year where she gets no rest either. She has held this family together in ways I will never be able to repay.
</p><br />
<p>There’s no 401(k) to fall back on; that went to earlier emergencies years ago. Our application for utility assistance was denied, and I’m appealing and applying for other help, but the bills keep coming.
</p><br />
<p>I fully intend to go back to work. Remote infrastructure and platform engineering is what I do, and I’m good at it. But you can’t run a job search from a hospital bed, and right now recovery has to come first. The bills and insurance premiums didn’t pause to wait for either one.
</p><br />
<p>WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW
</p>
<p>Thanks to many of you, our water bill is caught up. The most urgent needs now are:
</p><br />
<p>Electric bill: $490.30. We’re past due, and we’re working out a payment plan, but every dollar helps keep the lights on.
</p>
<p>Cell phones: $360.23 due next month, our only way to reach each other while I’m in rehab.
</p>
<p>Sara’s car: it needs front-end steering and suspension repairs to be safe to drive. The mechanic’s early estimate for the bare-minimum safety repair is about $550 to $700, and it will need tires after that.
</p>
<p>THE LONGER-TERM GOAL
</p>
<p>Beyond those bills, we’re raising $30,000, about $2,545 a month for a year, so that Sara and I can get through recovery and back on our feet. Every month:
</p><br />
<p>$571: Monthly utilities. Electric and gas ($161), water (about $50) and cell phones ($360).
</p>
<p>$145: Insurance premiums. Keeping us both covered through the gap; losing coverage mid-treatment isn’t survivable, financially or otherwise.
</p>
<p>$500: Medical. Co-pays, prescriptions, and rehab costs insurance doesn’t cover.
</p>
<p>$300: Groceries and household essentials.
</p>
<p>$1,029: Other household bills and catching up on past-due balances.
</p>
<p>If I’m back on payroll before we hit the goal, I’ll say so here and stop the campaign.

<div>Hi, my name is Stacey. I’m reaching out to family, friends, and animal lovers for support. This cutie pie is <b>Georgia, the heartbeat at our feet, our emotional support and angel.</b> She is the core of comfort for our family, but she is also not doing well. Over the last month, she has not been the following shadow, glued to you full of cuddles we know. She hardly moves from her chosen spot for the day, only for mealtime and potty breaks.

<div>She is in pain. She yelps when she moves too much, shakes uncontrollably from pain, and whimpers throughout the day. We haven’t been able to identify the cause of this increasing pain to help her at home. <b>She needs veterinary care to identify the issue and treatment to be herself again.</b>

<div>Our family is praying for <em>any</em> help you can provide as I have been displaced from work for 7 months now. The job market in Iowa has been a real struggle financially as we lived on only my income. With my unemployment being depleted and the government shutdown impacting food benefits (we aren’t getting any), every single penny is being counted. We have to decide which bill gets paid and which bill gets a late fee or put off until I can make enough money dashing to pay it.

<div><strong>Sunset Celebration Performer</strong> <em>Andromeda Fyre (Renita)</em> requires your help desperately to upgrade her fire show equipment to LED's, ASAP. Due to recent unforeseen events, fire has been banned indefinitely in Mallory Square. Even though Andromeda had no hand in the fire ban, she is suffering the worst due to her entire performance show being a fire show. In order for her to continue making a living with us and subsist on the high costs of living in Key West, she needs to adapt and upgrade to LED props. Unfortunately, it is not an inexpensive change. She can not do it without your help!

<div>The reason these LED props cost so much is they are professional grade. That means they are built to take the wear and tear, aka hard drops on the ground and getting hit around A LOT, and can still deliver appealing lighting effects. Cheaper options break quickly and have to be replaced sooner and more regularly. Going high-quality professional from the get-go avoids this waste of money and down-time.

<br />In loving memory of Desse Ly. <br /><br />Desse recently passed away unexpectedly on December 28th, 2020. He was a well loved son, brother, father of 3, and friend who touched the lives of those around him. <br /><br />We are all devastated by Desse’s loss and want to give Desse the memorial he deserves, to honor his memory and say our last goodbyes.<br /><br />I am currently asking for donations to help cover the cost of Desse's funeral expenses. <div>The last day of November we got confirmation that moms cancer is back, except in a different location. She has over a 2 cm tumor in the pelvic wall, as the biopsy determined. The last 3 months she’s gone through scans and a biopsy, so the medical bills are starting to get big again.  Because of the previous cancer surgery she had, the surgeon reached out to colleagues that specialize in this kind of surgery at The University of Minnesota. After collaboration between her Iowa surgeons and the surgeons at UMN, it was decided we have to go to UMN due to the complexity of mom’s case.  We will have at least 3-4 trips to Minnesota for consultations and surgery, Which comes with the added expenses of food, gas and potentially hotel stays; not to mention their normal bills and her having to be on disability while recovering from yet another major surgery.

<div>No one in this family fights alone, and she will get through this again. We are asking if you can help in any way, be that praying, donating to help alleviate the financial stress, or even sharing her page, it would be greatly appreciated. We need her focused on herself, and not the stresses of the financial burden.
