Help Us Finish Baby & LoLo, A Short Film! We’re raising $10,000 for Baby & LoLo, an independent psychological thriller about surveillance, obsession, identity, and the increasingly blurry line between who we are and who we pretend to be online. And this isn’t a “maybe one day we’ll make a movie” fundraiser. Production has officially begun. We recently completed our first shoot, one of the film’s strangest and most visually ambitious sequences and seeing this world come alive confirmed what we already suspected. We have something special on our hands. Now we want to do the rest of the film justice. So…who are Baby & LoLo? Baby is a brilliant but troubled surveillance analyst who spends her days watching the private lives of strangers. Then she finds LoLo. Beautiful. Magnetic. Successful. An influencer who seemingly embodies everything Baby associates with Black excellence. There’s just one little problem. Baby can see what LoLo’s followers can’t. Her private life. And when the woman behind the screen stops matching the woman Baby has come to worship, admiration becomes obsession. Baby doesn’t just want LoLo to be who she says she is. She needs her to be. And Baby is prepared to…correct the problem. Why This Film? Because we’re all a little obsessed with watching each other. We curate ourselves online. We develop relationships with strangers. We turn people into symbols of beauty, success, empowerment, even morality and then get very uncomfortable when those people turn out to be actual human beings. Baby & LoLo takes that contradiction and pushes it somewhere dark, funny, surreal and deeply uncomfortable. The film also digs into the particular pressure placed on Black women to embody strength, desirability and empowerment while rarely being afforded the same freedom to be vulnerable, messy or contradictory. Think Black Mirror meets Swarm, with a little Get Out and Sorry to Bother You energy. You know. A good time. MEET THE TEAM BEHIND BABY AND LOLO! Baby & LoLo comes from the mind of Marium Khalid, a Pakistani-Kashmiri American writer/director based in Atlanta whose award-winning work includes TERMINUS, MAZLOOM, and Pinocchio. She is also the co-writer of Saffron Kingdom with Watermelon Pictures, directed Ruby Velle’s Straight Out the Mud, featured by Rolling Stone India, and her latest work, NIM, has been featured at the University of Oxford and Emory University. Destiny Renee stars as BABY and serves as producer. She is an Atlanta-based actress, theatre producer, teaching artist and poet whose work includes Ruth & Boaz, The Legend of Gilbert Flay, and Discovering Brooklynn, along with national commercial campaigns. Amariee Woods stars as LOLO, the influencer. As an artist, Amariee approaches acting as a tool for self-discovery, using each character as an opportunity to uncover something new about herself and the human experience. She believes that truly knowing oneself is an ongoing journey, and with every role she is fortunate enough to embody, she unearths another layer of her own humanity. For Amariee, the work is always deeply personal—no matter how different the character may be from the woman bringing her to life. And we’ve assembled a pretty damn cool team: Marium Khalid — Creator, Writer & Director Destiny Renee - 'Baby' & Producer Amariee Woods - 'LoLo' Andrew Harrison - 'Delete Him,' 'Co-woker' & Producer Mya Morten - Director of Photography Kai Anwuzia - Assistant Director Ryshad Pitts - Gaffer Jarid Coranado - Sound Mixer Robby Myles - LoLo's Social Media DP Aysha Khalid - Hair & Makeup The Rohailas - Production Design Okay, But Where Does the $10,000 Go? To the people and things actually making the movie. Your contributions help us pay our cast and crew, secure locations and equipment, feed everybody, and elevate our costumes, hair and makeup, lighting, and production design. And once we yell cut for the last time, we still have a movie to finish. Funding also covers editing, sound, color, festival submissions, promotional materials and festival travel. Our goal is to take Baby & LoLo onto the international festival circuit, with aspirations toward Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, Fantasia, Slamdance, BlackStar and our hometown Atlanta Film Festival, before pursuing digital distribution. We don’t just want to make this thing. We want to make it GOOD. And then we want people to see it. Help Us Finish! $25 can feed somebody. $50 can help transform a set. $100 can help us pay an artist for their work. Give $5. Give $50. Give $500. We will happily take your rich auntie’s money too. And if money is tight? Share the campaign. Seriously. Send it to your film friend. Your horror friend. Your Black Mirror friend. Your cousin who spends entirely too much time on TikTok. We’ve already started. Now help us see how far we can take it. Baby is watching. Now we need people watching with her. ️ — The Baby & LoLo Team Sky Creature Productions
