<div><strong>Baloo is a 7-year-old German Shepherd.</strong> This past summer, he was diagnosed with hypercalcemia. There were many conditions the vet believed could have been causing this originally; however, we are fairly certain now that he has hyperthyroidism. Unlike in humans, for dogs, medication is not an option. The only treatment for this condition is surgery.

<div>Baloo was doing okay until the past few weeks, where he became very lethargic and stopped eating. We took him to the vet, where they discovered his kidneys and liver were struggling, and his calcium levels were so high they were higher than the machine could register. He has since been hospitalized at our local vet for IV fluids and medication. He has been there 4 days so far and will be staying at least 2 more. <strong>The plan for now is to hopefully get his liver and kidneys better, then he will need imaging and surgery.</strong> Currently, there are no local vets that have the capability to perform the surgery, so we will be traveling an hour or so away for this.

Care for Baloo’s Urgent Treatment

Sanji is my beloved Yorkie puppy, just 5 months old and starting life out with a challenge. Recently, he had a seizure that sent us rushing to the emergency room. The veterinarians believe he has a liver shunt, a condition that prevents him from processing food properly. Because of this, Sanji struggles to grow, gain weight, and enjoy life as a happy puppy should. It’s heartbreaking to see him unable to play and thrive like other dogs his age.

 We are facing urgent medical bills and the need for surgery to give Sanji a chance at a healthy life. The costs are overwhelming, and we want to do everything possible to save our puppy. My packmates and I, through no fault of our own, were evicted from the only home we have ever known, Seacrest Wolf Preserve, with only 20 days’ notice. Sadly, wolves in sanctuary are just as endangered and misunderstood as our wild brothers and sisters.

<div>We have found a beautiful new home for Seacrest in the northwest Florida panhandle - Seacrest 2.0. On this new property the wolves can once again roam spacious, natural habitats and continue the mission of education, conservation, and compassion for generations to come. But here is the hard truth: land alone is not a sanctuary. Every single structure that kept our animals safe - every enclosure, every shelter, every building must now be built from the ground up.
