<div>All donations to this GoFundMe will provide Triston with<strong> therapy, mobility services</strong> that will teach him how to navigate the world while blind, and<strong> a disability advocate</strong>.

<div>After a traumatic childhood in the foster care system, Triston attempted to end his own life at the age of 19. He woke up two months later completely blind and disabled in many ways. Since then,<em> he has not received therapy for his mental health</em>. He has also had to teach himself how to use a cane without the help of a specialist. Navigating the world while blind is something that takes time, guidance, and expertise to learn. Access to a mobility specialist will allow Triston to regain a level of independence he has yet to achieve.

<div>If our goal is reached, we will also hire a disability advocate to ensure Triston is maximizing his access to services. The system is needlessly complex and is even more difficult to navigate while blind. An advocate will ensure Triston is well taken care of.

<div>I will work with Triston to find credited experts that can guide him to reach his mental and physical goals.
</div>

<div>This money will be distributed to Triston through an ABLE account. ABLE accounts are tax-advantaged savings accounts for individuals with disabilities, allowing them to save for qualified disability expenses (such as the ones mentioned above) without jeopardizing eligibility for public benefits like Medicaid and SSI. In order to keep his benefits, the money will first go to Special Books by Special Kids (a nonprofit), then it will be sent to Triston's ABLE account. An ABLE account has a $19,000 contribution limit per year. If this fundraiser exceeds $19,000, we will distribute the rest on January 1, 2026. This process can continue in succeeding years for as long as there is still money in the fundraiser. We are also able to pay for Triston's services directly if his ABLE account empties out in any particular year. 100% of these funds will go to Triston's services, and this process will ensure he keeps his benefits.

Help Triston Regain Independence

<div><strong>The original goal of securing enough donations for Lincoln to have an accessible shower has been met. Thank you to everyone who contributed! I will update you as they begin the process for the shower. I will leave this fundraiser open so that anybody who would like to contribute to Lincoln's needs can still do so.  Lincoln's family shares "One of Lincoln’s biggest needs right now is a Hoyer lift track system for transferring him safely and comfortably, which unfortunately isn’t covered by insurance. These systems can range between $5,000–$15,000, depending on the scope and setup. This would be life-changing for us as it would greatly improve Lincoln’s care and our ability to help him move around."  Any additional contributions will be used for this. </strong>

<div>Lincoln is diagnosed with X-linked myotubular myopathy. This condition greatly reduces his muscle strength, requiring him to rely on a ventilator, wheelchair, and 24/7 nursing care.

The SBSK community has shown that when many people contribute a small amount, it can add up to a life-changing impact. Together we can make Lincoln's wish come true and provide him with an accessible and accommodating shower. Help Massiah Find a Safe Home

<div>Chris Tomlinson is a burn survivor who is also a single father of two teenage girls. In the last seven years, the three have been displaced and traveled up and down the east coast seeking shelter. During this time, Chris has desperately searched for a job but has not been successful due largely to society's view of his disability. In February 2022, this family finally found housing through section 8. Chris currently supports himself and two children with $800 a month, or $400 after the cost of housing.<br /><br />The money from this fundraiser will go to Chris Tomlinson to be used for basic necessities for his family; including shelter, food, and bills. <div>Since Chris is on SSI income of $800 a month, the disbursement of funds will look a little bit different than the typical SBSK fundraiser where the person just receives the lump sum. It is USA law that any person receiving SSI cannot have assets totaling more than $2000. I find this law abhorrent, but that is a conversation for another time. Fortunately their exists something called an ABLE account, which allows for an annual contribution of $16,000 without hurting a person's SSI eligibility. Simply put, this allows us to fundraise for Chris and his children without putting them at risk of losing their benefits. Help for a Burn Surviving Single Dad

Since that day, five-year old Talon has been fighting for his life in the PICU at Norton’s Children Hospital. His parents, Megan and Jimmy, have been by his side the entire time. Due to the severity of Talon’s condition, there is little more that traditional treatments and local doctors can provide. With this in mind, Megan and Jimmy have decided that when the time comes, they will take Talon home and care for him there. Megan will be his primary care giver, which will make it impossible for her to continue her at-home crafting business. In addition, they will likely have to do some remodeling on their home in order to make it more  accessible for Talon. <br /><br />     Megan and Jimmy have done a great deal of research in hopes of finding a treatment that might improve Talon’s quality of life. They have been in contact with a doctor in another state who specializes in working with children who have lived through near drowning experiences. If accepted as a patient, Talon, Megan and Jimmy  will have to live out of state for approximately 2 months while Talon undergoes treatments. The cost of the treatments will not be covered by their insurance. In addition, Jimmy is self-employed and being unable to work a regular schedule for an extended amount  of time will be a financial strain on their family.<br /><br />     Even with private insurance, the bills from Talon’s hospital stay are accumulating. The last thing his parents need to worry about is covering the cost of medical bills, treatments, medical supplies or future expenses. Our hope is that the money donated through this Go Fund Me will help offset some of the costs. At this time,  we have set a goal of $15,000, but it may very well be increased as we become more aware of Talon’s needs. Any donation, large or small, would be greatly appreciated. With your help, this family can focus on their sweet Talon and not finances. <br /><br />      Shares are appreciated.
