Babs Fry ( A WAY HOME FOR DOGS) is in need of our help! I am a volunteer here in San Diego County and noticed that SO many of you have asked for her GoFundMe link. This Go Fund Me was originally started to meet the challenges we had back in the spring and summer (2023) and thanks to our generous donors, many of those needs were met. It is an ongoing challenge to have the financial support needed to run a rescue and the occasional critical fundraising that is needed.

This Go Fund Me will now change to be here for those who prefer to donate via this method. We will provide updates and information about areas which are needing our attention and financial support. We seriously cannot thank you enough for each and every donation made. I'm glad that this platform can show that even small donations can add up and help us with our mission.

THANK YOU for considering this Go Fund Me! All funds will be withdrawn by Babs or her designated person.

Support for Detained Buona Forchetta Employees

On the evening of May 30, 2025, four valued employees of Buona Forchetta—a beloved Italian restaurant in the heart of South Park, San Diego—were detained during an ICE “Worksite Enforcement Operation.”

The pain of this event has rippled far beyond those directly affected. Families are separated, livelihoods are threatened, and the entire community is reeling from the shock and heartbreak.

We, as neighbors, small business owners, and fellow South Park residents, are rallying together to offer immediate support to these valued members of our community. Your donation will go directly toward legal fees, lost wages, and essential living expenses for the employees and their families as they navigate this difficult time.

While Buona Forchetta is doing all it can to assist, we know that the needs are great—and this is where the strength of our community shines. This fundraiser is our opportunity to show up for our friends, neighbors, and the people who help make South Park such a welcoming and vibrant place to live.

No contribution is too small. Every dollar sends a message of hope, solidarity, and care.

Thank you for standing with our South Park Community during this time of need.

Nick needs our help, he was attacked in the seat of his truck and pummeled.

The ASSailent was arrested at he scene. With several facial reconstruction surgeries scheduled anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Hi - many of you know that my family suffered a tragedy this past Sunday. Our son was playing at a friends house next door when we were alerted that he had drowned. His mother and then EMTs were on the scene immediately to provide CPR. He was then rushed to Texas Children's Hospital where we has been receiving around the clock care in the PICU.

Misha is nearly six(but if you ask him, he's one hundred thousand). He's strong. He's brave. He's so curious and he can "do it himself" so naturally everyday that we get a little slice of progress (while medically they have each come as a welcome surprise) I would not say that we are surprised that Misha is in their fighting for his life and to get back to us. I want to take a second though to say that Misha isn't just strong. He has empathy, he wants to help not just to to be appreciated but because he cares about the help he's giving. My favorite moments of being one of his parents the last 10 months is when I can find little ways for him to help me with my work. He loves to pick flowers for his mom and he's been pressing them in a book for Avi. He races every morning to the dog food, before I have a chance to wake him for school, to beat me there so HE can feed the dogs. Then he runs upstairs and feeds the cat, Charlie (who he calls Jarlie)

He's gentle. He wants to understand things. He wants to listen, and learn and show affection. He goes with Avi to the cafe often and is social with all the patrons and other employees. He loves to smell and taste the food when his mother is cooking. He'll eat nearly anything. He loves food. He loves to help with any step he can. Last week he sat on the island while we made egg broccoli muffins and he ate so much raw broccoli watching and helping.

We explained to him one day how to take bugs he finds outside. Now if he finds a bug, he isn't doing anything else until that bug is back "with it's family". We have songs on a playlist that he insists on hearing 7 times in a row. He loves music, monster trucks, ninja turtles, firefighters and waves at anyone in uniform. He'll wave and say "hey bro!" as long as it takes to get their attention and say hi back. He's never discouraged if someone doesn't hear him, or if he falls down. He's always saying "no, i'm ok", getting back up and after it.

We've all been so lucky to have Misha in our life and none of us ever thought we would be in this position waiting day by day to see how he can recover. We've had tremendous support from friends, family, clients. Misha has hundreds of people praying for him and people with him at all hours of the day.

In the coming months we will be handling everything we have to regarding his recovery which could include a myriad of different things. We know his medical bills will be astronmical during this process. We are hoping that we can find resources through medicaid, the liability insurance and other options but everything is very unclear at this stage. We plan to do everything outlined to get Misha the best care available, in whatever areas he may need along his rehabiliation. This will likely be months at least, potentially years or a liftime of care for Misha. We want to try things such as hyperbaric oxygen chambers for him. Anything we can do to help him.

People have reached out asking how to help and at first we weren't sure what he will need. We're sort of all in a limbo state right now - but I decided that it was best that we start a campagin for Misha for supplemental costs now as we all take time off work and spend time with him. This money will be used to help along the way to provide all the care for Misha as outlined above, as well as for us to take time away from work, buy toys and books for misha and any other gaps that we worry may be there after we reach settlements.

The goal number isn't specific. You know, we have no idea what we are looking at exactly. If we fall short or exceed the goal, we appreciate every bit that everyone has done. Every prayer, every message, every thought about Misha is important and I can't wait for the day that we get to see him smile when we show him how many people sent all these messages and these prayers just for him.

We live in Houston Tx

This campagin is being organized by me, his mother (Aviana Quiroga) and his biological father (Chris Pena)

I'm creating this fundraiser to ask for your help on behalf of my friend Jelly and her faithful companion, Captain. Adopted from a shelter, Captain is an 8 year old ball of joy. Recently, Captain tore his ACL and needs surgery to fix it. The cost of the surgery is $2,200, which is an insurmountable amount for Jelly.

Jelly is disabled and has no income. She lives in an RV with Captain, and despite her financial difficulties, Jelly has always made sure that Captain has everything he needs. He's been her constant companion, providing her with love, comfort, and protection.

However, with the cost of Captain's surgery, Jelly is struggling to provide the care that he needs. With your help, she can provide him with the medical care he needs to recover and continue their journey together.

Your donation, no matter how small, will help alleviate the financial burden on Jelly and ensure that Captain receives the care he deserves. Thank you for your kindness and generosity in supporting this worthy cause.

Please help pay for Captain's torn ACL

We are moving forward with organizing surgery for Adun as quickly as possible. We have a team of veterinarians working together from abroad to conduct a double tusk removal . Because of Adun’s small size we are having dental tools custom made for his tusk canal which ill aid in the complete removal of fragmented pieces of tusk and infection. We are preparing for general anasthesia (GA) and have already purchased medications and large elephant size soft bedding to place Adun on for the surgery.

Saving Adun! Borneo pygmy elephant needs your help

For the past six years, The Trash-Vengers crew, helmed by Matt Armstrong of Fairmount Park, has spent countless hours doing the dirty, tiring, and often thankless work of clearing the area canyons and streets of trash. Their aim is to make the canyons and surrounding neighborhoods a safer and more welcoming place for all, and they do this work on a volunteer basis.

In 2017, the Trash-Vengers rounded up over 3000lbs of trash, and in 2018, they estimate is was closer to 5000lbs.

The crew's work has been documented on several occasions by the San Diego Reader, with articles from 2017, 2018, and 2019. Matt was also featured in this article about a fire started in an area where they had previously done clean ups.

I think we all understand that the homeless situation in San Diego is real, but the solution can't be for encampments in the canyons to go unchecked, creating fire and public health hazards, or for the waste from abandoned encampments to remain there indefinitely. This is where the Trash-Vengers come in.

What we're looking to do is fund the Trash-Vengers through 2022, so they can keep doing their awesome volunteer work without going into their own pockets for material costs.

The Trash-Vengers primary expenses are the purchase of heavy-duty trash bags, gloves, gasoline at a very high cost, soap, and disinfectant. They need grabbers, buckets, and loppers for cutting branches. The crew uses battery operated weed whackers and blowers, which require periodic maintenance and replacement.

They wear heavy duty boots that stick to the side of a canyon walls (dragging heavy bags uphill is no easy chore). They need water, hats, and sunblock to stay hydrated and cool. And Matt carries his gear in a tactical vest which needs periodic replacement (he's on his third). We have not even mentioned the cost of fuel……and won’t. Any help at all is much appreciated.

Trash- Vengers supplies for 2022

A few months ago Erin was diagnosed with end stage liver failure. The end of one's life is inevitable for all of us, but no one expects it to be only four years into a marriage with the love of your life, before your nephews graduate high school, and at such a young age right when life was at its happiest.

She had been receiving care between Homer and Anchorage, and had been given the OK by her doctors to travel back East to see friends and family and that is when things got worse. She was taken to a major hospital and was told her situation was a lot more dire than she had initially thought. After returning to Homer her health steadily declined, and Erin was life-flighted to Anchorage. In Anchorage, she was finally able to see a specialist. This specialist recommended Erin to the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington where she was flown to days later. Monday Erin was accepted into the transplant program and added to the transplant list the following day. Today we received the fantastic news that she is at the top of the list and there is a donor in the area.

After the transplant, Erin will be in recovery for up to 2 weeks at the hospital and will have to remain in Seattle for a few months. Cody will be traveling between Homer and Seattle as much as financially feasible.

Anyone that knows Erin knows how gracious, loving, kind, and truly selfless she is. With being gifted with something as big as another chance at life, there is no way she would want to ask for anything more, so that is why we, as her friends and family are. Erin has a long road ahead of her and isn't quite out of the woods yet. Throughout these months she has been unable to work and Cody has also needed to take a large amount of time off. Medical bills, flights, lodging, and day-to-day bills will inevitably pile up. Although both Cody and Erin are not ones to ask for help, they are usually the first ones to give theirs. The purpose of this "ask for help" is to ease troubled minds and support Erin during this scary time.

Anything you can give is appreciated, funds will be directly deposited into Cody & Erin's joint account.

Financial Support for Erin Stadler's Recovery

Hi, my name is Ariana and today I found out that my dog, Axel, has bilateral pleural effusions and likely has a mass that could be cancer. His vet bills are already accumulating and as we all know, that kind of stuff is very expensive(today almost $10,000) I've had axel since he was 8 weeks old and he's my baby, he will be 5 in January. Im a single mom and full-time in college, Axel has been healthy his whole life up until this so it's come as a shock. Today he's having chest x-rays, blood work, urine analysis, and an EKG, his chest tapped and fluid drained, but he will likely need more testing and if it is a treatable cancer, he will likely need treatment. We aren't sure yet whats going on but it’s not good and he has to stay in the hospital for a couple days. He's my baby, my sons best friend, and a huge part of our family, anything you can do to help, donate, share, etc, would be greatly appreciated. He’s been with me through the worst things and always licked my tears and loved me, so now it’s my turn to take care of him. I'll update this if we find out anything more about his condition.

We Need Help with Axel's Vet Bills

If you looked at her, you wouldn’t know that our mom has had Multiple Myeloma for the last five years.

When she told us about her diagnosis four years ago, it was scary. It felt as if she was telling us that she was going to die tomorrow. But what we learned over time was that her “progression” (the rate at which her cancer was growing) was pretty slow. It still made her tired, and feel pretty crappy, but we stopped worrying that she was going to die at any moment.

We got back to living… we watched her make dinner every night, keep the house tidy, walk the dog, even go to the gym. We saw her at all our baseball games, cheering like a crazy woman from the sidelines, and even got to go skiing with her in the winter. We remembered that there was more to our mom than her cancer.

But, during the pandemic, our mom started feeling worse. Her labs showed that the progression had picked up speed, and that her cancer was starting to take over. Because Multiple Myeloma is a rare form of blood cancer that destroys the bone marrow, there’s nothing to take out with surgery (unless you have a vampire handy!). In April, she told us that her cancer doctor was suggesting that it was time for treatment.

None of us have had cancer, so we really didn’t know what that meant.

Our mom explained that her treatment would take about six months and would have two different stages to it: during the first stage, she takes chemotherapy pills and shots and is able to work, as long as she feels OK. During the second phase, she will have to check into the hospital for a few weeks and will get very aggressive chemotherapy infusions. If all goes well, she’ll be eligible for stem cell transplant after that (how she will be able to grow new bone marrow after they kill off all hers!).

While our mom has been able to take care of us for this first part, she won’t be able to even take care of herself during the second part. Our mom’s best friend, Jen will come to live with us for about three months so that we can focus on school and Jen can take care of mom when she comes back from the hospital. We know that we’re going to have to give her a lot of love, and time to sleep (apparently that’s when you grow new bone marrow), but she’s going to need a lot more than we can provide.

Our mom has always been that person who has taken care of others (it’s her job, too), but now that she is sick, she needs help.

We want our mom to focus on getting better, not on the making dinner or keeping the house clean. We can do a lot about that- and our neighbors have been so cool to sign up to bring us dinners, but then there’s stuff we just can’t do without your help. We want to make sure that mom has as little stress as possible- and money just seems to be the thing that adults stress about! Knowing that the house and office are paid for, and that we have what we need will let her do the only thing she needs to do: get better.

Thank you so much for anything that you can do!

Help our mama Sage in her Healing Journey

Hello everyone,

It is with a heavy heart that we received news today of Manuel Castelan's passing.

Manny was a genuine, wonderful person.

Most importantly, he was a beloved father and devoted husband.

He leaves behind his three children: Manuel Castelan Vela (aged 14), Luis Santiago Castelan (11), and Rosa Cecilia Castelan (7); and his wife Cecilia.

To me, Manny was more than a coworker - he was a friend. We first met years ago at Estancia as coworkers, remained in touch, and ultimately started work again at Valentina. I was always so impressed by his work ethic, something he always attributed to wanting to take care of his family.

Towards the end of November, Manny began feeling unwell. He was hospitalized in early December with Covid-19 and battled for the next two months before succumbing this morning.

We will all miss Manny, but no one will miss him more than his family. I have been in contact with his wife, Cecilia, throughout his illness and have offered to help her with creating this GoFundMe for the expenses incurred from Manny's hospital stay, as well as help the family through this incredibly difficult time.

She and I are so humbled and appreciative of any help you are able to offer.

Stay safe, and take care of each other.

***EDIT: A couple of legal/required notes:

I am a friend of Manuel Castelan, but the sole recipient of the funds is Cecilia, his wife, and his children.
From my conversations with her, she will be using the funds to sustain the family as they navigate the loss of Manny's income. She has mentioned rent as one of these expenses.
I have been authorized by Cecilia to withdraw the funds of the fundraiser and to deliver them to her. My goal is to deliver the amount raised thus far at the end of March, in person, to her and her family in Tijuana.

I want to be as transparent as possible and am more than willing to answer any questions or assuage any donors concerns. It is important to me that anyone that has donated to help the wonderful family of this wonderful man is confident that their kindness is reaching the intended recipients. ***

Ricardo
