Jamie Morrow met Eric Hoerner in high school and the two remained close friends for years, supporting each other through struggles with addiction until Eric’s passing in August 2025. Now in recovery and part of Network for Life Rochester, Jamie is motivated by both his friendship with Eric and his own transformation to give back.
He is leading an effort to restore Eric’s childhood home—where Eric, his fiancée Shawna Cada, and their five children once lived—so the family can return. The home has fallen into disrepair after years of hardship and addiction.
Meanwhile, Shawna has been working to rebuild her life. She is part of the Jeremiah Program, pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education while working as a substitute teacher. She currently lives with four of her children in Rochester, while the oldest lives with his grandmother. The family’s goal is to be reunited under one roof again.
With support from volunteers and Network for Life Rochester, Jamie is working to make that possible by restoring the home and helping the family move forward.
What started as a simple idea to support a friend has grown into a nearly complete home transformation! Following the tragic loss of Eric Hoerner, we are now in the final stretch of renovating Shawna’s home for her and her children.
The electrical, plumbing, and drywall are almost finished, and painting is officially underway. However, like any major project, we’ve hit a few hurdles—most notably with the flooring.
We are looking to raise $2,700 to cover these unexpected flooring costs and the final supplies needed to get the family back into their home.
Every donation, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference. Whether it's $5 or $500, your support helps us cross the finish line for Shawna and the kids.
My name is Shawna Cada, and I am doing everything I can to stay strong for our children—Austin, Ava, Aric, Alice, and April. They have lost their dad, their protector, and someone who loved them deeply. As we grieve, we are also faced with the overwhelming responsibility of rebuilding our home and creating a sense of stability for them during this incredibly painful time.
Eric was a loving father and partner who worked hard for his family. Now, I am navigating not only the emotional weight of this loss but also the financial challenges that come with it. This fundraiser will help support us as we rebuild our home, and provide a safe, secure environment for our children as they continue to heal.
Any support—whether through a donation or simply sharing our story—means more than words can express. Every act of kindness helps lighten the load and reminds us that we are not alone.
Thank you for standing with our family during this unimaginable time.
