Just last week, our world was turned upside down...
I was at home, when there was a knock at the door. An investor stood there and told me, without warning, that the house we’ve called home for years was being auctioned off that very day. My heart dropped and I frantically messaged my roommate.
I called the lender, desperate for answers, and learned it was all true. Within hours, there was another knock, this time, a notice that the house was bought and a notice of the home being bought bu their llc and a notice to vacate (not an official one either!).
Strangers walked through our home, taking pictures, while I stood there trying my darndest to hold myself together. This was our home...
My roommate was at work, frantically making calls, but there were no clear answers. Just a bunch of dead ends...
Now, after trying to see if the llc who bought our home would let us lease from it, was told we should to leave in 30–60 days. Yet, no official notice to vacate has been issued just yet.
The fear and uncertainty are overwhelming. Both my son and I are disabled, and the thought of moving so suddenly is terrifying.
This house has been more than just a roof over our heads. I have lived here with my former partner and his partner, and several of my friends who are disabled or in recovery. I always tried to make this a safe place for others, a place where people could heal, rest, and feel accepted.
Losing this home feels like losing a lifeline, not just for us, but for our little community. That, in itself, is heartbreaking.
I am working through vocational rehab to get back on my feet and have started a part-time job as a dispatcher this Thursday. In a few months, I’ll be returning to college part-time to become a paralegal.
I am fighting every day to build a better future for my son and myself, but right now, we need help to get through this crisis. I’ve already been homeless with my son once before, and the trauma of that time still haunts me. I am doing everything I can to prevent that from happening again.
The funds from this fundraiser will help us cover moving expenses, storage, transportation, emergency temporary housing, accessibility-related moving assistance, housing application fees, deposits, and basic stabilization costs. Your support would give us the breathing room we need to transition safely into secure housing while I work and go to school.
If you can help give us a hand up right now, it could mean the difference between safety and stability versus fear and uncertainty. Any support you can offer is deeply appreciated as we work toward rebuilding our future.
We desperately need people who can help us move. I do not drive or an physically able to move my things on my own.
If you can, we need help in the following areas:
Moving supplies, moving truck, storage, resources for housing leads, and even just a note of encouragement will make a difference.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and to consider helping up get on our feet and into secure housing. We are not asking for a hand out, just a hand up.
