<div><strong>UPDATE:</strong> Sofie has had a stay at one veterinary hospital having blood work, fluids, painkillers, x-rays, and ultrasounds before a surgery. We took her for a second opinion to see if they could do an endoscopic surgery (less invasive) or whether they'd actually have to open her up. The second veterinary hospital chose to try endoscopic first after their pre-op blood work, another ultrasound, and x-rays.

<div><strong>UPDATE:</strong> Sofie just had her surgery, and is in recovery now. The doctors found a ball/chunk of food that wouldn't come out in the area between the stomach and small intestines after almost 2 weeks. With the chunk up and out, and regular treatment for all the inflammation, we're hoping she will be able to keep down what she eats.

Our beloved mother passed away unexpectedly in the early morning on May 9, 2024, just 8 months after the passing of her younger sister Lucinda Gonzalez Daniels. Our mother played the role of both parents in our lives &amp; our father, Andrew &amp; I will be forever grateful for her being the very strong, very independent woman she became because of it. Though the day to day life has forever changed, with our family's continuous support we will find strength again. Support for Lydia's Family in Their Time of Grief

<div>On Friday Aug 25th, the Daniels family suffered an unthinkable series of events. Dillon Daniels, Varsity #5, was injured during the game and has a dislocated foot and a broken bone in his leg. He will undergo surgery on Thursday.
</div>
<div>During the event Dillon's mom, Lucinda, suffered a stroke. Tragically, she suffered a second stroke on Saturday night that has left her with no brain activity.
</div>
<div>Anyone who knows Lucinda, knows that she has one of the biggest hearts you’ve ever seen and in keeping with that spirit, she is an organ donor. Whilst we are losing Lucinda, we hope you find some solace in knowing that her passing will give the gift of life to numerous others and allow her love to continue to spread through the world.
</div>
<div>The Daniels family has a deep connection with the Mountain View community with all four children attending Landels, Graham and MVHS.
</div>
<div>The funds raised will be used to help the family cover all medical expenses, funeral costs and living expenses while they work to rebuild their lives.

<div>Our beloved friend and long-time tour manager, Bill Handlin was hit by car in Portland while crossing a crosswalk. The impact broke both his legs and his neck and caused a severe concussion. He is currently laying in a hospital bed in Portland having undergone surgery.
</div>

<div>Doctors expect him to recover but he’ll be in a neck brace for 3 months and confined to a wheelchair for 6 months.
</div>

<div>Those of you who know Bill know he’s a gem of a human being. The kindest tour manager in rock and roll, a dad, a husband, a person who has a genuine love of music and a genuine connection to the Airborne community.
</div>

</div>
<div>Bill shows such kindness to every tech, every fan. Everywhere he goes, venue operators tell us what a great person he is to work with. For us, he organizes meet and greets, sets the stage, builds the set, mixes the sound, all while managing crews of up to 50 people. He always takes time for fans, making sure people get their posters signed, walking stuff backstage simply because he cares.

<div>He loves the band, loves the community,  loves being a part of it. He told me the other day from the hospital bed that the band is “on a mission to spread empathy” and that being a part of that mission has given his life purpose.

<div>Bill lives with his family in Colorado. As you know, being a tour manager is gig work and Bill will be in a wheelchair for the next six months and unable to work to support his family. He’ll also have sizable medical bills for all of the rehabilitation. Furthermore, his health insurance company will not pay for his medical transport from Portland back home which places him, his 8 year-old son and his wonderful wife in a tough spot.

Help the needy in Nicaragua

Many of you know and love the Caballero family. Over the years, they have touched you and the Castro/Mistral community with generosity and kindness.  <br /><br />I have been lucky enough to have had their children as my students and have always been amazed by their strong work ethic and compassion for members of our community. They truly embody the American dream of hard work, dedication and striving for a better life.<br /><br />On Friday, July 29th Romualdo Caballero, husband and father, fell from a tree while working. He suffered major injuries that required surgery on his elbow, and included a fractured skull, as well as other minor injuries. Thankfully, he was rushed to Stanford Hospital, and after two days in the ICU, is slowly making a recovery.<br /><br />This was an extremely terrifying incident for the whole family, and has been made more difficult by the immediate need to cover the costs of rent and food for the family while Romualdo is unable to work. I am collecting money on their behalf to help them access the donations easily, and make this time as unstressful as possible. Every single penny is given directly to the Caballero family.  <br /><br />The money collected will be used to pay rent as far forward as possible, and to purchase groceries in order for the Caballeros to focus on Romualdo's health, and so the children can focus on school. Paula is currently their only source of income, and she will not be able to afford the rent on her salary alone. It is critical for them to stay here in Mountain View, surrounded by their extended family and community support network. Not being able to pay rent would force them away from the very people that they need most right now.<br /><br />Ever since I have known the Caballeros, they have tirelessly given their time and effort to the Castro/Mistral community by volunteering on top of long work hours and supporting their children's studies. The Caballero children have worked diligently to be great students and pursue their dreams, knowing how much their parents have sacrificed to give them this opportunity for the American dream. It is so important that their children continue their studies among classmates and teachers who also know them well and can support them.<br /><br />This is a family that has been at the heart and soul of the Castro/Mistral community for so long. They have worked so hard and sacrificed so much. It would be wonderful to be able to give them the much deserved love and support they need during this trying time and return some of the many blessings they have bestowed on all of us who have been lucky enough to know them.

Anibal, the little boy on the right, and his mom, dad and 3yr old sister, sadly lost everything they have in an apartment fire a few weeks ago.  The fire broke out in another apartment but it destroyed their unit as well.  Luckily they are physically fine, but the fire has left them homeless with very few options.  <br /><br />We attend a dual-immersion elementary school where the Spanish-speaking families are all socioeconomically disadvantaged.  My son became good friends with Anibal who is the sweetest little boy and normally always has a smile on his face.  We saw the family yesterday for the first time since the fire and that sweet little smile was missing, replaced by a child who was clinging to his mom for security and safety.<br /><br />This family had so little to begin with and now even that is gone.  They just want a roof over their head which is next to impossible for a severely low-income family in our area.<br /><br />I hope with the money raised on GoFundMe they can afford a new apartment and a few basics, like a mattress to sleep on.   <br /><br />Thank you on behalf of Anibal and his family.
