<div>On Sunday, July 26, tragedy struck at Bite of Seattle when a mass shooting claimed the life of <strong>Ashley</strong> <strong>Whitehead</strong>, a lover of life, art and family. Ashley was waiting in line for cotton candy, enjoying the festival with her daughter, <strong>Zoie</strong>, and future son-in-law, Ben, when the violence began. She was shot and, despite surviving long enough to exchange heartfelt 'I love you's with her eldest daughter, passed away during surgery at Harborview. Family was everything to Ashley—she had recently moved to the west coast from Alabama to be closer to Zoie, while her younger daughter, Celeste, currently lives in Virginia.

<div> This is the second time tragedy has struck Zoie. In 2018, she lost her partner of seven years, my brother Michael, to heart failure. I’ve always referred to Zoie as my sister-in-law, and my kids call her Aunt Zoie. Zoie will be the sole benefactor of any funds donated, and will use the funds to support herself and her family as needed in the coming months. Support a Navy Veteran's Journey to Rebuild 

<div>William “Bill” Burkey is a Navy veteran, husband, father, brother, and lifelong man of faith who has been fighting colon/rectal cancer for more than six years. The cancer has now spread to his lungs, bones, spine, ribs, sternum, hip, femur bone marrow, soft tissue, and brain. His prognosis has changed from years of treatment to months in palliative care.

<div>Throughout this entire fight, my father has continued working remotely to maintain income and medical insurance for himself and my mother. Even while going through chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, hospitalizations, and the physical toll of metastatic cancer, he has done everything he could to keep providing for her and protecting their stability.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Now, after years of cancer treatment, medical emergencies, travel for care, and a recent shift into palliative care, we are trying to ease the financial burden on my mother so she can focus on the time she has left with her husband.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>My father’s cancer journey began when he was 56 years old. Since then, he has endured chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries. In 2021, he was declared cancer-free, and our family believed we had finally reached the other side of the fight.
</div>

<div>In late 2022, the cancer returned and had metastasized to his lungs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>From 2023 into 2024, he began oral chemotherapy. The side effects were difficult, and the cancer was not responding the way everyone had hoped. After weighing the impact on his quality of life, he chose to pause that treatment and look for other options. At that point, he was willing to try anything that might give him more time.
</div>

</div>
<div>In July 2025, he developed double pneumonia and had to be airlifted from my parents’ home in Mississippi to his oncologist in Louisiana. The following month, he resumed weekly chemotherapy infusions and continued them until December 2025. Once again, the treatment took a serious toll on his body and his ability to live any kind of normal life.
</div>

</div>
<div>Before all of this, my parents had sold their home in 2022 and bought an RV with the hope of traveling across the country to see the national parks. They have a small piece of land in Mississippi, where my mother has been caring for him.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In February 2026, during a routine PET scan, doctors discovered that the cancer had spread much further. It had metastasized to his femur bone marrow and soft tissue. The tumors in his lungs had increased in size and multiplied. The cancer had also spread to his T1 and T10 vertebrae, his left hip/iliac crest, his sternum, and throughout his ribcage.

<div>My father has just turned 62 years old. Our family is grateful he was able to reach this birthday, and we are now hoping and praying he will also be here for my parents’ wedding anniversary on July 1, 2026. At this point, every birthday, anniversary, visit, conversation, and quiet moment together means more than words can explain.

<div>He endured two weeks of palliative radiation to his femur. Despite everything, he wanted to see his father and siblings, so he flew to Central California, where he grew up. While there, he was admitted to the hospital for dehydration and released the following day. That evening, he began showing signs of confusion and loss of balance. His brothers had him transported by ambulance back to the emergency room, where he was admitted for a second time.

<div>An MRI confirmed two brain bleeds and a tumor at the base of his cerebellum pressing near his sinus. He required emergency brain surgery. When we received the news, I flew my mother, my younger brother, myself, and my husband to California because we feared this might be the end. Thankfully, the surgery was successful in removing the tumor.
</div>

<div>My parents stayed in California for an additional week before I flew back out, rented a car, and helped them make the drive from California back to Mississippi.
</div>

</div>
<div>We are trying to raise approximately $50,000 to help cover medical debt, treatment-related costs, emergency travel, hospital expenses, and the financial strain caused by years of cancer care. Although my father has continued working remotely throughout his illness in order to maintain income and medical insurance, the cost of ongoing treatment, emergencies, and travel for care has become more than my parents can manage alone.

Officer Donahoo is also a navy veteran and former Deputy with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. He has been with MPD (Morristown Police Department) for 4 years.  Officer Donahoo is meeting with doctors this week to schedule surgery to remove the mass, at which time they will obtain samples of the mass to determine how to move forward.

Mia has been diagnosed with Stage 4 SMARCB1-deficient kidney cancer — a very rare and aggressive form of kidney cancer caused by the loss of a specific gene (SMARCB1) that normally helps regulate critical cell functions. Without this gene, the cancer grows rapidly and can spread throughout the body.

<div>Mia is a junior goalkeeper for the University of Washington women's soccer team. Known for her exceptional skills, unwavering dedication, and uplifting spirit as a teammate, she played a pivotal role in helping Washington become the NCAA Statistical Champion in save percentage during the 2024 season. Mia also led the team in shutouts and was instrumental in winning two penalty kick shootouts — helping the Huskies advance and ultimately reach the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.

<div>Her journey began in Corte Madera, California, where she played for Marin FC 04 Blue ECNL, leading her team to multiple championships. At Redwood High School, Mia was a standout athlete, earning All-League First Team honors, being named Defensive Player of the Year twice, and earning the respect of teammates and coaches alike for her leadership and heart both on and off the field.

<div>Cancer doesn’t care how young you are, how healthy you’ve been, or how hard you fight. Angela—“Ang” to her people—is 42 years old, fiercely funny, sharp as hell, and in the fight of her life.
</div>
<div>She was only 40 when diagnosed in October 2022 with stage 3 colon cancer after months of being told she was “too young” and just needed “more fiber.” Spoiler: her fiber intake was just fine. Instead, she ended up in the ER with a ruptured colon, had emergency surgery, and began a grueling chemo regimen. By May 2023, after 6 months of battling through what she thought was hell—nausea, surgeries, side effects, and a colostomy—Ang was in remission. She even let herself dream about getting back to “normal” by the end of the summer.
</div>
<div>But cancer had other plans.
</div>
<div>In August 2023, just in time for Ang’s 41st birthday, routine scans revealed that the cancer was back. It had spread. Angela was now facing stage 4 colon cancer.
</div>
<div>Overall, it’s been a relentless rollercoaster:

Their son Keaton is 15-almost-16, and watching his mom battle something no teenager should have to witness. Also in the mix is Chief, their loyal (and extremely spoiled) French bulldog who has become an emotional support beanbag with legs.

Ukraine Humanitarian Fund

<div>We are sadden to announce (Sean) Sipachanh Khaamsouk was in an accident yesterday evening 10/24/2024. On his way home from work, Sean experienced an unexpected hemorrhage in his brain, which led to a seizure. Currently, he has bleeding and swelling in the core of his brain making it impossible for doctors to operate. The medical team at Overlake Medical Center are doing everything they can to keep him as comfortable as possible as he remains on full life support. Unfortunately he will not be recovering.

<div>Lucinda Mullins, or Cindy, as most of her friends call her, is a lovely, caring, brave and beautiful young lady who has recently experienced a life-changing tragedy that will leave her as a quadruple amputee. Cindy and her family will have to make a few adjustments to their home to accommodate Cindy's needs as well as her prosthetics and adaptive equipment. The costs of all of this can be overwhelming. We started this fundraiser because we want to support our hero Cindy, as well as her husband DJ who has been by her side every step of the way. Cindy and DJ have two young children who are missing their mom and dad terribly. Sometimes life is hard and there's no way around it. Cindy and DJ's world has come to a complete stop, but the world around them continues to move forward. Let's help ease their burden while they heal and get back to their lives. <div>The friends of the Roberts family have created this fundraiser. Keely Roberts and her 8-year-old son, Cooper, were significantly impacted by the tragic events of the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois. Cooper’s brother Luke was also present, witnessed both of those injuries, and suffered emotional trauma that day. Cooper’s spinal cord was severed, and he is paralyzed from the waist down. After undergoing many surgeries, suffering complications, and spending weeks in the hospital and rehabilitation, he is now home where he continues to work with doctors, nurses, and rehabilitation experts on his healing and progress. Cooper continues to fight as hard as he can. We know the family’s medical bills will be significant, as will the treatments, therapy, and all of the equipment, devices, and needs in their home. The Cooper Roberts Family Fundraiser

<p>Wynter was recently diagnosed with Large GI Lymphoma, we were told she wasn’t going to make it to her first oncologist appointment which was last week! Unfortunately, her test results were not what we were hoping for and came back as large T-cell’s which cuts her chances in half, but at only 3 years old we feel she deserves a chance at life. We are fighting for her life and doing everything we possibly can, due to how young she is and she has a chance if we move forward with chemo! Although the t-cells cut her chances to fight this by 50% we are willing to try and see how much time we can buy her. Unfortunately, the cost of all of her tests thus far have added up and we were told chemo is not going to be cheap.  Wynter is loved and cared for by so many so we are asking for your help to give this beautiful girl a longer, fighting chance.<br /><br />thank you all for your support as we navigate this scary process!

Chemo expenses for sweet Wynter!

Paul has been recovering in the ICU and is undergoing another surgery today. Most know Paul for turntable skills, being one of the most well known house DJ’s in Seattle. Close friends know him for his integrity and trustworthiness, impeccable style, his creative genius and always down to have fun in front of the camera with his crew. But more importantly he is a life long friend to many, son and a brother, and one of the most reliable and honest people we know. So now it’s time for him to rely on us for a bit. We are raising money for Paul’s recovery and every dollar will go to aiding this process. We appreciate any amount and thank you for all the prayers, love, positive energy being sent his way, we know he can feel it. Funds will be going to Rick Hale who has set up an account just for Paul so he can manage for him. All donations will be solely used for Paul's medical bills and recovery.

Last week, sometime during the snow storm, our head janitor Juana Morales was walking to her car near her house and slipped and fell. Unfortunately Juana is unable to work because she broke her wrist. This injury will require her to have surgery and miss a fair amount of work. Not only is she missing work but she also is going to have to pay out of pocket for her surgery. We here at La fitness thought it would be awesome if we could help raise some money for her, for she is hard working, an amazing mother and wife.
