What they care about

Hey everyone, Spencer here with SB Mowing! Join me on my YouTube channel as I mow lawns in different neighborhood looking to help as many as possible!

Hey everyone, Spencer here with SB Mowing. I got an anonymous message about a house where the yard had gotten completely overgrown. The person who reached out told me the homeowner had been dealing with a serious back injury and hadn't been able to keep up with anything at all this year. So I went over, knocked on the door, and ended up spending a long time talking with Troy. Troy has spent his whole life working with his hands. Years ago he fell 26 feet out of an attic onto concrete while doing HVAC work, took a couple weeks off, and went right back to it. Then about six years ago he was 22 feet up on a ladder working on a hangar door on a military base when the door kicked back on him, knocked him off, and he landed on a forklift. He has a blown disc now. Surgery is technically an option, but his doctor told him that even if everything went perfectly, it's maybe a 40 percent chance of feeling a little better, and there's no guarantee. He can barely move without extreme pain, and he told me he doesn't really sleep anymore, he just calls it resting. On top of that, he lost his mom four years ago and his dad two years ago. He hasn't been able to work since the injury, and the house has fallen behind because of it. I spent a full day out there, sun up to sun down, cutting down volunteer trees and hauling off three entire loads to the dump, mowing everything down, and opening the whole property back up. But while we were talking, Troy mentioned the things he can't get to and can't afford. His roof has been leaking every time a storm comes through. His gutters are falling off the house. A huge limb came down and destroyed his garage door. All of it has been pushed to the side for years because there just hasn't been money or a body able to do the work. Troy never asked me for any of this. He's the kind of guy who spends his time helping other people and doesn't want anyone helping him. When I told him I wanted to start a fundraiser to get these repairs taken care of, he was completely stunned. That's what this fundraiser is for. Every dollar raised here goes toward: Replacing his leaking roof Repairing and replacing his gutters Replacing the garage door destroyed by the fallen limb Any remaining repairs on the home he hasn't been able to get to We're doing this through my nonprofit, SB Mow It Forward, a 501(c)(3) built to go beyond the yard work and take care of the things people genuinely can't take care of themselves. Thank you all so much for the support. It's the reason I get to do any of this! SB Mowing... OUT!
**THIS FUNDRAISER HAS CONCLUDED. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!! While cleaning up an abandoned, overgrown property, my friend and I found a dog that someone had bagged up and dumped in the driveway. I've been mowing overgrown lawns for five years and I've never had anything like that happen. Animal control came out, checked him for a microchip, and took really good care of him. But I couldn't stop thinking about how that dog should have never been in that situation in the first place. So I called Christy at Wichita Animal Action League, a 501(c)(3) I've worked closely with over the past couple of years. They're the people doing the work that prevents things exactly like this from happening. Here's what WAAL does in our community: Free pet food handouts every other week — around 250,000 pounds a year to Wichita families Mobile vet clinics in neighborhoods with the least access to care, partnering with veterinarians including K-State's veterinary school Vaccines, medical care, and supplies for owners who are doing their best but hit a rough patch What stood out to me most is that they don't just help the animal. They help the family. Christy told me they pride themselves on non-judgmental service, meeting people where they're at, so nobody has to feel afraid to ask for help. When a paycheck doesn't stretch far enough or an unexpected bill shows up, that's exactly when a pet is most at risk of being surrendered, neglected, or worse. WAAL steps in before it gets to that point. Every dollar raised here goes directly to Wichita Animal Action League so they can put more food, more vaccines, and more veterinary care into the neighborhoods that need it most. To get things started, I'm personally donating the first $1,000, and the board of my nonprofit, SB Mow It Forward, voted to match the first $5,000 donated by all of you. Even five or ten dollars goes a long way here. If you can give, thank you. If you can't, sharing this helps just as much. Thank you all for watching, and thank you for caring about this one. ***THIS FUNDRAISER HAS CONCLUDED. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Debbie has had one of the hardest stretches of life imaginable, and she's been carrying most of it alone. Her husband was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and given about 90 days to live. Debbie became his full-time caregiver through all of it until he passed. In the time since, her own health has been declining, and the weight of everything has made it nearly impossible to keep up with her home, her yard, and her own medical care. While she was grieving, she was also being taken advantage of. A contractor took a $2,000 deposit for tree work and never showed up. A neighbor wrecked her car and didn't pay for it. She fell three months behind on rent, put off dental and health care she genuinely needs, and there were days when she and her dogs went without food because she simply couldn't afford it. We found out about Debbie through her Uber driver, Zach, who helped carry her groceries to the back door, noticed how much she was struggling, and reached out to us because he couldn't help on his own. My dad and I spent two days at her property clearing years of overgrowth and hauling multiple trailer loads of debris. We bought everything she had set aside for a yard sale and donated it to Habitat for Humanity so she'd have money in hand without the burden of running the sale herself. Through SB Mow It Forward, we also covered her three months of back rent so she could get out from under that stress. But there's still more she needs, and that's why we're here. This money will go toward dental care she's been putting off, medical expenses that have gone unaddressed, day-to-day essentials, and eventually supporting her transition into a senior living community when she's ready. All funds raised will be placed into a trust with Debbie as the sole beneficiary. This structure exists to protect her and to protect the funds to make sure they are used in a charitable way.
