<div>As many of you know, on March 28, 2026, Duett’s Texas Club in Martindale closed its doors for the last time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Duett’s was never just a business to us. It was where we raised our family, where we poured every ounce of our time, energy, and resources. While closing was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever made, we are incredibly proud of what we built, the lessons we learned, and the strength it took to walk away when we did.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As we’ve processed everything, we realized we never fully shared our story.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Ryan and I were originally approached to open Duett’s with nothing but a dream and the willingness to work for it. We were promised support and limited financial risk. However, shortly after opening, those agreements changed, and we found ourselves carrying the weight as debtors rather than partners, but we kept going anyways because we loved what we built and the community we built it with.
</div>
<div>Day after day, we bootstrapped the business with no financial backing, no safety net, and no credit. And through it all, this community showed up for us in ways we’ll never forget, helping cover bills, stepping in to work, and believing in what we were building together.
</div>

<div>When we closed, we couldn't sell anything to help cover the debts, not equipment, not the business, not even the furniture or glassware. We didn’t own any of the assets.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Toward the end, rising costs made it impossible to sustain. In an effort to stay afloat, we took out a Toast loan totaling over $40,000, which was paid back through a percentage of daily sales. By the time we closed, we had worked that balance down to $24,578, as well as making sure we paid all staff up to date, something we were proud of.
</div>

<div>Unfortunately, that remaining Toast balance has now fallen on me personally. It is not protected by the LLC and cannot be cleared through business bankruptcy.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On top of that and our most pressing, we have the final sales tax owed of just over $5,000, with penalties and interest continuing to grow daily. The Texas Comptroller has been kind in working with us, however it has come to the point, with a mid July deadline, that we are at risk of our personal income being garnished by the state to cover this remaining Sales Tax owed.
</div>

<div>In total, this debt has become overwhelming and is directly impacting our ability to move forward and rebuild. Ryan is working over 40 hours a week, I've been scraping small jobs as i'm home with both kids. We are struggling to be able to cover our basic needs. A state garnish of wages would knock us out.
</div>

</div>
<div>This is not easy to ask, especially as we've been so fortunate by the support already, but we are humbly reaching out to those who believed in Duett’s, our friends, our family, and our community, for help in closing this final chapter officially.
</div>

<div>In the coming months we hope to put on a few "Duett's Takeover" events to help fundraise the remaining Toast Loan Balance ($24,578) but right now the Sales Tax Debts of $5,000 is looming over us, strangling our efforts to make any move.
</div>

Community Support for Duett’s Final Debt

<div>Lieutenant LaFollette has proudly served as a professional firefighter in the Austin area for 19 years. She was recently diagnosed with cancer and is now facing not only the physical and emotional toll of her illness, but also the growing burden of medical and living expenses. Despite her years of service and dedication, workers’ compensation in the state of Texas does not recognize uterine and cervical cancer as presumptive cancers, leaving her without the support many would expect to be available to a firefighter in her situation. As treatment continues and expenses mount, the financial strain has become overwhelming. This fundraiser is intended to help ease that burden, allowing Lieutenant LaFollette and her family to focus on comfort, dignity, and time together—rather than unpaid bills.

<div>We’re Sammie and Dom, proud pet parents to three loving dogs—Petey, Bane, and Echo. They’ve always been a bonded pack and get along so well, but recently, Petey was seriously injured in an unexpected fight with his brother. It was heartbreaking, and we immediately rushed to get him the care he needed.
</div>

</div>
<div>Petey had to be sedated and treated for his injuries over multiple vet visits, and while he’s now doing much better and slowly getting back to his happy, energetic self, so far, his medical expenses have totaled  $3,000, which wasn't something we were financially prepared for.
</div>

</div>
<div>We’re doing everything we can to make sure he heals fully and comfortably, but the medical bills have added up quickly and are beyond what we had budgeted for.
</div>

Support Petey's Journey to Full Recovery

<div>This morning (May 3, 2022) our beloved Libbie was walking with her 2 year old daughter when a vehicle jumped the curb striking them both. The driver, who fled the scene, was later found hiding in a shed, still clearly intoxicated. Libbie, 5 months pregnant with her second baby, did not survive her injuries. Her daughter, Clara, is fighting for her life in critical condition.

<div>Libbie celebrated her 24th birthday just yesterday. She was the most genuine soul, who absolutely radiated pure love. Down to earth, she was the epitome of authenticity.
</div>

<div>Libbie married her soul mate, Charles, in August of 2019. Just two weeks later their absolutely perfect daughter joined them earth side.
</div>

<div>Libbie is the oldest of 15 children. So, of course, she was an amazing mother. Motherhood came naturally to her. Clara is every bit a mama's girl through and through. Even after Libbie tinkered with independence as a teen, family was still always her priority, her calling. She truly loved her people with all that she was. Her siblings were her friends, and her friends were also like family.
</div>

<div>Libbie and Charles, like every young couple, were doing everything they could to make ends meet, provide for their daughter, and their growing family. This was the last thing anyone expected. Charles just graduated from Real Estate school, hoping that this new opportunity would give his young family a reprieve from the grueling Utah economy. And a chance to be in a better financial position.
</div>

<div>Now, with looming funeral costs, death taxes, a quickly growing tally of medical bills, and constant prayers there won't be a need for a second funeral this family could really use any and all the help they can get. To say we'd appreciate and be forever grateful for any help is an understatement.

Justin and Melissa are two of the kindest people I know. Justin has been in and out of the hospital over the last couple of months, and is currently back in. He is very ill and his wife, Melissa, needs to be by his side so that together they can focus on his care. This means that neither of them have been able to work, and even though Melissa will soon be returning to work part-time, they have taken a financial hit. There are still bills to be paid along with the additional expenses that are accrued when your spouse is in the hospital such as gas to travel back and forth, food, and other essentials. Please join me in helping lift the financial burden these two are facing, so that they can be together and focus on what really matters.
