Fundraising to support a blind family in Dang, Nepal

<div>My son Ken and his wife Melissa, parents of four, are navigating ongoing <strong>health challenges</strong>, recent <strong>job loss</strong>, <strong>and a major renovation disaster</strong> in their new-to-them Belgravia home. A furnace-room renovation went sideways and they required emergency <strong>asbestos</strong> abatement of some plaster walls and their entire HVAC system! The abatement has damaged the ductwork, walls in every room of the house, and completely gutted their basement. They need community support to make their home safe again, and to rebuild the basement into a living space that will give their whole family much needed stability.

<div>As friends and family know, they have been resilient in the face of considerable adversity, with a series of tragedies, unrelenting health challenges, and related financial hardship. Facing <strong>cancer</strong>, <strong>autoimmune diseases</strong>, <strong>neurodevelopmental and mental health challenges</strong>, and many other difficult circumstances is part of their life. They’ve met this adversity with faith, perseverance, determination, and loving prayer support.

<div>After a long road to financial stability, this past year people and organizations near to our family acted in discouraging, damaging, and surprising ways causing significant job disruptions, at the very worst possible time. They are reeling and we are hurting with them.

<div><strong>Due to the job disruption, the financial hardship has been mounting, along with uninsured health-related expenses</strong>. They have paid for the abatement, and the repair of the ductwork, but still need to rebuild their basement into livable space for their son, and the whole family. I pray and hope to raise at least $20K of the $75K needed just to get things back to normal. Without support, they will face considerable financial hardship and be unable to make longer-term improvements they had planned for accessibility and income security in their home.

Originally from the Jhapa district, Kiran had been living temporarily in Canada for the past few years. His unexpected departure on April 25, 2025, at his home in Toronto has left us all in deep sorrow.

Help Riya Fight stage-4 Cancer Away from Home

<div>On September 25, 2011, Santosh Bhattarai, a Jhapa, Nepal resident, devoted husband to Sona Sharma, and a father of 2, was diagnosed with a serious spinal cord injury. It started with losing mobility in his right leg, which progressively got worse. As per the doctor’s recommendation, Santosh had surgery to correct it in 2012. Unfortunately, the surgery was unsuccessful and eventually led him to be paralyzed from the hips down and on a wheelchair with an uncertain road to recovery that will include an intense battle for mobility and independence.

<div>Santosh’s deteriorating health and struggle to perform daily chores took a heavy toll on his father, who abruptly passed away in 2016. His father's death also contributed to his worsening health. As Santosh’s mother does not work, and with the lost source of income from his father, his wife Sona is struggling to keep the family afloat financially.

<div>On Feb 6, 2025, Santosh was hospitalized at B&amp;C Hospital in Biratnagar. After 15 days at the hospital, he was brought to and admitted to Bir Hospital in Kathmandu on Feb 21, where he is undergoing treatment for sepsis. <strong>Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when bacteria from an infection enter the bloodstream.</strong> Santosh is also type II diabetic, and this is not helping with the healing process. The doctors have suggested that he be transferred to the ICU so he can be treated for the infection.

<div><strong>Santosh is struggling to speak and eat. He needs all the support he can get from all of us.</strong>

<div>“At just 52 years old, my mother received the devastating diagnosis, along with the added risk of breast cancer.

<div>For those who know her, my mother embodies strength, grace, and resilience. She has always been the cornerstone of our family, giving selflessly without expecting anything in return. Now, it's our turn to rally around her and provide the support she needs in her fight against this relentless disease.

<div>Ovarian cancer is often called the silent killer due to its subtle symptoms, leading to late-stage detection. Despite the challenges, neither my mother nor our family will back down from this fight.
</div>
<div>Recently, she underwent a major surgery involving the removal of parts of her abdomen. The journey has been immensely taxing, both emotionally and financially. While we've managed so far with the generous support of family and friends, the road ahead remains uncertain and extremely challenging .
</div>
<div>The expenses of her chemotherapy and ongoing maintenance therapy, possibly lasting for years, present a significant financial burden. Furthermore, the recommended PARP inhibitor maintenance therapy comes with its own tremendous costs, making the situation even more challenging. My father who was the sole earner in the family had to quit his job and returned to Nepal to dedicate his time for my mother's care.

<div>That is why I am here to humbly request for any support possible. Any donation, regardless of size, will make a world of difference to my mother. Your generosity will enable her to commence treatment as soon as possible, offering hope in her battle against cancer.

Supporting Shova Giri in Her Fight Against Ovarian Cancer

<div>I am creating this post on behalf of my 19-year-old cousin, Samikshya KC, who has been diagnosed with the fourth stage of colon cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy sessions.

<div>Samikshya recently had a colon surgery and is currently receiving a treatment at Nepal Cancer Hospital at Harisiddhi, Lalitpur. Her treatment plan consists of twelve chemotherapy sessions and many tests in between. The total number of chemo sessions may increase which will be determined as the treatment progresses. Samikshya just completed her first chemo session a week ago, and the doctors are hopeful as the cancer cells have not spread to other vital organs.

<div>Samikshya is assured that she will overcome this illness and has maintained positive attitude throughout. Samikshya’s optimism gives hope to her parents. She speaks of recovery and of starting her bachelor’s studies once her treatment is over. She has managed to become a pillar of strength despite an overbearing pain and intense treatment.

<div>Despite all hopeful news lately, the surgery and the chemo sessions have caused severe financial distress to Samikshya’s parents. Samikshya’s dad works at a travel agency and her mom moved back to their village in Lamjung during covid period to cut down the family expenses. Samikshya’s mom has engaged in agriculture and livestock since covid. She has come back to Kathmandu to take care of Samikshya.

<div>Given their already existing loans for Samikshya’s colon surgery, Samikshya’s parents are struggling to find loans to cover Samikshya’s treatment expenses. <div>My journey in Australia began in 2022 on a student visa with dreams and hopes for a brighter future with my husband. Life was running smoothly with our three-month-old baby. However, our lives took an unexpected turn when I started experiencing severe chest pain. Initially, we denied it thinking it was typical chest pain, but it progressively worsened. I was admitted to the hospital, where a series of tests were conducted because my condition was hard to detect. When a series of tests was done it came out that I have a very rare condition of cancer which is most probably the first case in Australia. It is called <strong>adenoid cystic carcinoma of the trachea</strong>. Our world came crashing down, and we were devastated by the news.
</div>
<div>We gathered our strength and started the treatment. The cost of medical care in Australia is notably high, and we're already into the treatment journey. Since we're on a temporary visa, many aspects of the treatment expenses aren't covered by insurance.
</div>
<div>We are unable to afford the treatment. Consequently, we find ourselves in a very difficult financial situation, desperately needing support to ensure I can continue the treatment.
</div>
<div>In our time of difficulty, any contribution, no matter how small, would be extremely valuable in aiding my recovery. Your support isn’t just a donation, it's a gift of life, a chance for me to see my baby grow, and to continue our journey together. NRNA QLD  Appeal to save Aruna from cystic cancer

<div>Sunita Bista is my cousin, my late uncle's daughter. She is 29 years old and lives in Nala Banepa, Nepal. On March 30th, 2022, she was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), and went through chemotherapy (4 sessions) treatment and the cancer was in complete remission. However, after 7 months of remission, on April 13th, 2023, her cancer relapsed. The doctors have recommended bone marrow transplant. Before going through the transplant, her bone marrow cannot contain any cancer cells, and she is currently undergoing additional chemotherapy treatments in Nepal to be able to undergo the transplant.

<div>Due to slow process and long wait times in Nepal, the doctors have advised that we take her to India for the transplant. Bone marrow transplant costs are estimated to be around 3 million INR (approximately $37,000 USD) and her extended hospital stays and maintenance therapies afterwards add to the financial worries. There are some viral infections that she's almost guaranteed to contract post-transplant with an estimated treatment cost of around 1.8 million INR (approximately $21,000 USD). She, along with her husband, has been able to bear the costs so far, but however, their financial options have all been exhausted and are in dire need of help. Sunita's youngest sister, Pratima Bista, will be donating her bone marrow as she is a 100% match.
