At Hailsham Boxing Club, we believe that boxing is about far more than what happens inside the ring.
We will be supporting men who talk Wealden c.i.c
It is about confidence. It is about belonging. It is about having somewhere to go when life feels difficult, having people around you who care, and knowing that you don't have to face everything on your own.
That is why we are taking on our Pier to Pier Walk — Miles for Mental Health, travelling from Brighton Pier to Eastbourne Pier.
We are doing it to raise awareness, start conversations and remind people that mental health matters just as much as physical health.
Sometimes the hardest battle is the one nobody can see.
A person can walk into our gym smiling while carrying things they haven't told anyone about. They might be struggling with anxiety, loneliness, stress, grief, low confidence or simply feeling like life is getting too much.
Our aim is to create an environment where people feel comfortable talking, connecting and asking for help.
Why our monthly challenges matter
The Pier to Pier is just one of the challenges we want to use to bring people together.
Every month, we want to set ourselves a new challenge — something that gets people moving, gets people talking and gives everyone something positive to work towards.
It doesn't matter whether you run, walk, cycle, train every day or take things at your own pace.
The important thing is that you take part.
Challenges give people a reason to get out of the house. They create routine, purpose and something to look forward to. Most importantly, they create opportunities for people to come together.
You might start a challenge thinking you're doing it for yourself, but along the way you could encourage someone else who desperately needed that little bit of motivation.
We want people to talk
Mental health shouldn't be something we only talk about when somebody reaches breaking point.
We want conversations to happen every day.
We want our gym to be a place where people know they are welcome, where friendships are built and where nobody feels judged for struggling.
Our monthly challenges are another way of taking that message outside the boxing gym and into our community.
Because sometimes a walk with a group of people can turn into a conversation.
A conversation can turn into support.
And support can make a difference.
One club. One community. One step at a time.
The Pier to Pier Walk isn't about how fast we finish.
It's about why we're doing it.
We're walking for the people who are struggling in silence.
We're walking for the people who have lost someone.
We're walking for those who don't know where to turn.
We're walking to show that asking for help isn't weakness.
And we're walking to remind everyone that you are never alone.
This is what Hailsham Boxing Club is about.
Not just boxing.
Not just fitness.
Community. Support. Mental health. And people looking out for one another.
So let's put one foot in front of the other, start the conversations and keep moving forward.
Miles for Mental Health.
Brighton Pier to Eastbourne Pier.
One step. One conversation. One person at a time.
