Sam Levin is fighting Stage 4 esophageal cancer, and our family is asking for help as he continues treatment. He has been going through chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, but the cancer has affected his daily life in painful ways. He struggles to eat, sleep, and enjoy the life he once knew. The emotional toll has been immense, and it has been heartbreaking to watch Sam face these challenges with such courage. 
 
 
 Sam will be receiving treatment at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas. While family and insurance are helping with some costs, many expenses connected to his treatment, operation, travel, and stay in Houston are not covered. The financial strain is overwhelming, and we are trying to raise funds to help ease this burden so Sam can focus on fighting this disease and getting the care he needs.

Keith McDonley was admitted to the hospital for Covid on July 4th. He has spent the last few weeks fighting Covid pneumonia and was recently transferred to Legacy Emanuel's Neuro Trauma ICU. He has been placed on an ECMO machine, given a tracheotomy, and is undergoing dialysis. 

Keith is a strong person and is fighting to get better. He is a long time member of our community in which he frequently gives back in the form of various volunteer efforts. COVID Relief for Keith McDonley

My name Brie d'Ayr, and I am one of the 50,000 veterans currently homeless in America. One minute, you can have a great job, be active in local politics, and have your future laid out in front of you, and in the next breath, lose all of it. Homelessness knows no race, gender, background or financial circumstance, and I am proof of that. If you're here, chances are you saw my tweet about the Nevada GOP Electors suing me, along with the other Democratic Electors - in an attempt to circumvent the will of Nevada voters and hand an electoral win to Donald Trump.  Since news of this baseless suit broke, hundreds of people have reached out and offered me support and financial assistance. While the outpouring of kindness and generosity has been overwhelming, I'm reminded that compassion and humanity aren't lost, and my faith in people has been restored. I've felt uncomfortable with all of the suggestions to create a campaign to assist me through this, and therefore been reticent to accept help, especially when there are so many other veterans out there that need homes, jobs, and just one chance.  But, then I remembered the words of every flight attendant - "put your mask on first, before you help others," and as a believer in universal intervention, perhaps this is an opportunity to use my unexpected platform to make a real difference.     So, still a little unsure about this, here goes nothing.  I am starting this GoFundMe to help me yes, get back on my feet, but more importantly, to put myself in the position to fulfill a lifelong dream of helping other homeless vets and hopefully spark a long overdue movement.  I want to be fully transparent about what this money will be used for. I do not need money for a legal defense, as the Biden Campaign attorneys are providing legal assistance to me and the electors named in the suit in the event that the Court doesn't throw it out quickly - as we hope they will. With respect to the personal use aspect, I will use the money for a deposit on a home so that I can give my friend her guest room back, some basic furnishings, day-to-day bills and food, and to be self-supporting as I continue with my job search.  The bigger and more impactful project that I plan to undertake with the bulk of your donations, is to mount an initiative to end veteran homelessness from a grassroots and veteran-led standpoint. I know vets and I know homelessness. I know their pain and their daily struggles, and I know what we need to do as a society to start addressing this issue. What I appreciate most about this unexpected opportunity is that I can leverage the current revolutionary climate to bring much needed attention to this as well, and I am committed to continuing the fight for veterans by advocating and lobbying for them both at home in Nevada and in DC. I will work with the connections I already have, and will work tirelessly with Vet Voice Foundation, Veterans for Peace, the NRDC, and other groups. I can even partner with the League of Women Voters to implement a plan that provides the missing piece to the homeless situation in Nevada: not enough beds. I will also pay particular attention to the unique needs of women vets  and women victims of domestic violence who find themselves in a similar position. For those of you who choose to contribute, I will never be able to express my gratitude to you, but I do promise to pay it forward. I need to stress that given the economic challenges so many Americans are facing right now, please only contribute if you truly have the means. I don't want anyone putting themselves or their families at risk for me. Please remember that homelessness is a complex issue, and it really can happen to anyone-anytime. I'm very grateful to hear so much concern about me personally,but I'm ready to seize this opportunity to move beyond the conversation in to a solution.

Homeless Vet Working to Make a Difference

Donna was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension several years ago.  As many of you know, this is the same disease that led my late wife to heart/lung transplant and ultimately her untimely death.  Unfortunately, to advocate for my late wife, I had to be well versed with this disease.  Now I'm thankful that I can be there to help Donna when she needs me to translate medical jargon, explain medications, or when she needs guidance surrounding this disease. Not surprisingly, Donna's condition has worsened over the last couple of years which prompted her doctors to take more aggressive actions.  She's been tested, retested, and tested again.  They've determined that her version of Pulmonary Hypertension is CTEPH (Chronic ThromboEmbolic Pulmonary Hypertension).  This is kind of good news as it means she could be a candidate for PTE (Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy) surgery.  Her doctors in Phoenix have sent all of her records to UCSD (University of California San Diego).  USCD is the number 1 hospital in the world for PTE surgery. Donna's case has been accepted by USCD and she is set to arrive there on 4/21 for three days of testing.  Once the test results are back, UCSD will then determine if they can move forward with the PTE surgery. Traveling from her home in Chino Valley, AZ to San Diego, CA with meds, oxygen equipment, and a slew of other things needed to support her comes with its own set of obstacles.  She has a very dear friend, Roxanne, who will be taking Donna to San Diego and staying with her to make sure she gets to all of her testing appointments.  If Donna is given the green light for surgery, that will take place on 4/28.  Roxanne will stay until Donna is stable post surgery and then head back to Arizona.  Once Donna completes the post surgery rehab (3-4 days in ICU and approximately 2 weeks in a step down unit), she will be discharged.  Roxanne will then make the trip back to San Diego ahead of Donna's discharge to pick her up and bring her back to Chino Valley. Obviously, this will come with expenses.  Donna is a friend to many of us in this small little world of ours.  She's too humble to ask for monetary donations on her own.  Knowing this disease is expensive, I'm asking for her.  If you can donate a few bucks, it'll go a long way in helping her stress less about an extremely stressful and scary situation.

Government Shutdown Direct Relief Fund

8/22/2018 The good news is that I paid my rent. No eviction and no need to move or send my dog away.  Now I have to bring in a caregiver - app $500 - so I will leave this open another couple of days. Kaiser won't let me go home unless I have someone check me out of the hospital and vow to be with me 24 hrs/day for 2 weeks. So, I am having a friend come out from Missouri. She has an MA and isn't finding  much work where she is and will be deciding if she would like to move to Oregon. Anyway, I will need the help . September 13 is the hip-replacement operation!  ++++++++++++ I am a professional writer -- a 68-year-old female with no family and few local friends because I have been partly disabled for 2 years and don’t get out much. I have lived in my apartment on Sexton Mountain Drive for 5 years and have never been late with my rent. I make too much money to qualify for social assistance. However, I am in a perfect storm of bad luck and will be homeless within days. I am scheduled for a hip replacement on September 13. I can't walk or drive because I  have a severely deteriorated hip joint thanks to an injury 2 years ago. That means I can’t drive Uber or get an office job. Not until the end of September assuming I can get the hip replacement. My two long-time clients went dark last month and I lost those sources of income. I normally have no problem getting clients because I am so well-regarded that people always come to me. Nothing happening this summer, though. My bad luck happened at the worst time because I had to spend down my savings on something I didn't get paid for. To make matters worse, I got caught in a bank NSF trap and have been charged for close to $800 in NSF fees only. Just missed being evicted thanks to all my wonderful generous friends. Unless I can come up with some money from a writing gig I will be forcibly removed from my apartment. I don't know Tina Johnson. But I believe her.  Tina Johnson bravely shared a story about being sexually harrassed by Roy Moore. It has always been dangerous and risky for women (and men) to speak out against sexual harrasmment.  Today, this danger reached a disturbing level. Tina's home burned down and she lost everything. An arson investigation is underway.  100% of these funds will be used to help her rebuild her home. If Tina has insurance that covers the damage, she'll still receive funds from this campaign to help with living expenses and ease the weight of all this. Hey everyone! My name is Laura and I saw Clara's story from KATU on a Facebook group called "Stop Demolishing Portland". What has been happening in the Portland metro area over the past year(s) has been appalling. Rent hikes over 60%, many no cause evictions, and little to no government safety nets for those without the means to take on these new challenges of a rapidly growing city. Clara is an 87 year old Oregonian who has been residing in the same home since 1989. She has limited funds, as she has a fixed income, and cannot afford her 62% rent increase. Here is an exerpt from the heartbreaking article: "It felt like home, until they came in and now it's all gone," Nichols said. "It don't feel like home no more." Nichols is in bad health and doesn't know how much longer she'll live. The stress of dealing with the impending move is only making her feel worse. "I am literally helpless," Nichols said. She keeps a record book of her finances. When she moved in, her rent was just $365. In recent years, her rent has been about $775 per month, which eats up about half her income." A group of us attended the Interfaith Services with President Obama at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross this morning. We were seated among many other victims' families and were able to share stories, condolences and comforting words. My Uncle Richard spoke at length with two gentlemen from Martin Richard's school. Krystle Campbell's family sat very close to ours and showed tremendous strength throughout the service. A short while after we were seated, we noticed that the actor Bradley Cooper had taken a seat not far from us. Tim and Carmen spoke with him briefly and he agreed to try to visit Celeste and Sydney in the hospital after the service "“ and he did! (More on that below.) All of the various religious leaders spoke with so much conviction and care. friend, Jeff and his family. Jeff is a long time friend that we have known for many years. John and Jeff grew up as best friends and have a long lasting friendship. We always welcome Jeff with open arms to our family partys, vacations, and gatherings just as if he were one of our own. As most of you know, due to the horrific event that had taken place at the Boston Marathon this year, Jeff was severely injured. Throughout this difficult time we want to help in 
every which way we possibly can to get Bauman back on track as soon as
