I’ve always been the one to offer help, go the extra mile, and treat everyone with respect. But now, my family and I are facing a tough time and I need to ask for help myself. I lost my job in March after leaving a county position to try to better support my family. My wife lost her job in October when her entire department was outsourced. She now works from home to care for her elderly mother, who is 93 and can barely walk. Remote jobs are hard to find, especially for older workers. The new job I took was much more physical, and my body couldn't keep up. I ended up back in the hospital. In the past 2 and a half years, I've been hospitalized three times for serious health issues, including gallbladder surgery and cancer. While hospitalized, I got pneumonia, lost 30 pounds, and later had an infection at the operation site that needed to be drained. We're just trying to keep afloat. The funds from this fundraiser will help us cover basic needs like electricity, food, and medicine while we work to get back on our feet.
