Our completed antique railcar (c.1911) will present the story of the importance of the Ocean Shore Railroad in the development of the coast, from San Francisco to Santa Cruz.

Help Restore Pacifica's Ocean Shore Railroad Car 1409

<div>Hi, my name is sofia. I work at Paisanos in Pacifica. On Tuesday night 2/14 the neighborhood restaurant Paisanos Trattoria Pizzaria suffered a devastating fire and will need to be re built. The Cunningham family are more than employers they are friends to so many in the community. They have dedicated so much to running this restaurant and making everyone feel like family. <div>My name is Olex. A lot of you know me personally. Those who don't, I am Ukrainian living in San Diego, but a major part of my family, including my daughter, lives in Ukraine. As well as many friends and acquaintances and their family members.

<div> As unbelievable as it is, WAR came to Ukraine.

<div> Everyone, EVERYONE, in Ukraine is affected by this. We can't help everyone. But we can try to help as many families as we can.

<div> From the city where my family lives (Odessa), most people fled to Moldova, a neighboring country. As much incredible support as Moldova provided, they have limitations. 
</div>

</div>
<div> There is support from all around the world, where most countries are helping Ukraine.

<div> But we, as people, can help people. 
</div>

<div>I will personally travel to Romania by air and onward to Moldova by land this week.

I will try to evacuate my family: my 9-year-old daughter, her mother, her brother, both of my grandmothers, my sister-in-law, her two small children (6 months old and 3 years old), my mother-in-law.

But local humanitarian efforts are limited, and they are depleting with each day and what they do have is not nearly enough to cover the needs, and the number of families in need just keeps growing. <div> People fled with what they could carry, banks had no cash, and a lot of people were not financially stable to begin with.

Also, the Ukrainian currency that most had on hand has dropped x10, so even if people did bring a little money, it’s now nearly worthless compared to traditional exchange rates.

<div> $1,000 - $1,500 will likely support one family for 2-3 months (depending on family size) with food, shelter, basic needs and/or provide the critical funds necessary to continue their run to other European countries where they can seek asylum.

<div>The OHS Associated Student Body Congress are a group of exceptional elected and appointed student leaders who are responsible for planning events from Back to School Night in the Fall to prom in the Spring. Our upcoming calendar is already packed with events that the OHS student body have come to expect and eagerly anticipate. Normally, each class would have worked hard over the past couple of years to raise the much-needed funds to make these long-awaited and sometimes expensive events happen, but the pandemic stifled those efforts. A couple of our graduating classes, through no fault of their own, have only a mere $300 in their class’ account when they would normally have thousands of dollars. As an example of our upcoming expenses, our prom alone will cost well over $10,000 once all of the expenses, including insurance,  are paid.

Help Oceana's ASBC Fund Their Upcoming Events

I’ve been fighting the good fight for just over a year against stage 4 prostate cancer. Thank you all for your love! I’ve been able to work part time as a limousine chauffeur for over 12 years for my daytime job and as a musician and recording artist at night.  It is still a major struggle financially against this cancer. I can feel my body getting weaker and worried that this burden effecting my wife of 35 years. It is my hope that I can bring down this bill by using gofundme.  I will continue to play music until the end. Music has been a great medicine for me and others. God bless you all<br /><br />Latest Diagnosis:<br />My PSA WAS CLOSE TO 380 when first diagnosed. Dr told me I may have 5 years to live depending how new advanced hormone treatment goes at UCSF. Left scapula and lower spine became constant pain. It became close to #9 pain for a month when they finally did one radiation run. Pain gone in 2 days. I’ve had bone mets on ribs scapula hip but all under control now. I take Zytiga and prednisone every day and a shot of Lupron every three months. It’s been a good fight for over a year now. I still play in a rock band and work part time as a chauffeur. Keep the faith!!

<strong>THIS BENEVOLENT VETERAN IS BEING SAVED THANKS TO A FELLOW VETERAN'S DYING WISH</strong><br /><br />Brooke Dawson is a U.S. Navy veteran, who proudly served for 17 years. It was her honor to serve.<br /><br />On August 24, 2020, without forewarning, Brooke was diagnosed with an advanced, fast-growing cancer with metastases. Her oncologist indicated that her case required extensive chemotherapy and major surgery. <br /><br />When this news arrived, she had been working as a veterans service representative for six years, advocating for service-connected and non-service-connected disabled veterans—including the homeless—and their surviving spouses and families, to help them receive all the benefits they had earned: educating them about their eligibility, gathering evidence, interpreting the law, filing claims and appeals, and referring veterans to state or county resources as needed. Brooke loves this work! <br /><br />It is her prayer and aspiration to reach more veterans and offer greater access to benefits. She is an invaluable resource for our veterans and will continue to be—if we can help her in time.<br /><br /><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">This Is Urgent</span></strong><br /><br />While the therapies and treatments so far have strengthened her general health and immune system, the tumors have continued to grow, so she needs more aggressive treatment. <br /><br />It’s a race. If she does nothing, she could perish within a year. If she follows standard care through the VA, she will have less than a 40% chance of survival. However, if she follows a specialized approach, she will have close to a 70% chance of full remission. The good news is that she has located a cancer center that offers this approach, and she has begun receiving treatments. The challenge she faces is time and funding. Tumor growth leaves only a short window in which to receive these more aggressive (and costly) treatments. Also, because of her treatment schedule, she is limited to working part-time; thus her income is reduced at the same time her expenses are skyrocketing. <br /><br />Brooke is a fighter. She fully expects to become a strong, healthy, and happy survivor in full remission, able to return to full-time service helping veterans.<br /><br /><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>How Much She Needs and How the Money Will be Spent</strong></span><br /><br />The funding goal is $64,800 based on 12 weeks of treatment at a cost of $3,490 per week to cover chemotherapy and other cytotoxic and supporting therapies; 12 weeks of travel and lodging at a cost of $320 per week; a 4-month follow-up program at a cost of $1,800 per month; and 12 months of labs, imagery, medications, supplements, and consultations averaging $990 per month.<br /><br />I know we can find it in our hearts to give Brooke the same helping hand she has given to countless others.
