Kevin is a long-time friend who has faced more than his share of challenges. Living with cerebral palsy, blindness, and seizures, he has always tried to make the best of his situation. Despite being an educated and determined individual, Kevin has struggled to find employment, as his disabilities are often seen as a liability. He lives on the bare minimum, doing his best to get by each day. One of the most inspiring things about Kevin is that, regardless of his ailments, he still finds joy in playing guitar, letting music bring light into his life and the lives of those around him.

 Recently, Kevin’s situation has become even more difficult. His stepdad, who has been his primary caregiver for years, is now sick himself. Before falling ill, Kevin’s stepdad had started an addition to their house to make it safer and more comfortable for Kevin, but he was unable to finish the work. Now, the unfinished addition and the lack of support have left Kevin in a vulnerable position, with urgent needs for repairs and daily living assistance. On top of these challenges, Kevin is estranged from his mother and his twin brother, which means he has very little family support to rely on during this difficult time.

<div>For many years I worked as a caregiver helping elderly people in their daily lives. My job was to support them, care for them and make sure they felt safe and not alone. Helping others has always meant a lot to me.

<div>But the past few years have changed my life in ways I never imagined.

<div>I lost my father in a tragic house fire where he burned inside. Losing him in such a devastating way left a deep grief that has been very difficult to process.

<div>Around the same time I was going through another painful struggle — the fight to remain part of my daughter’s life.

<div>For almost two years I have lived without my daughter in my daily life. For any parent, that kind of separation is incredibly painful. It feels like a part of your heart is missing.

<div>During this time my mental and physical health suffered greatly.

<div>I live with Type 1 diabetes, and under the heavy stress my health became worse. I also developed severe stress and psoriasis, and there were moments where I truly felt lost.

<div>Because of everything that happened, I have not been able to work for nearly two years. Financially my life became very difficult, and I accumulated debt while trying to survive one of the hardest periods of my life.

<div>But recently, there has finally been a small light after a very long dark period.

<div>After a long legal battle, I won my case in court. If everything goes as planned, I will hopefully be able to have my daughter back in my life again in about a year.

<div>Kyra has already endured more loss and pain in her short life than most people face in a lifetime. When she was just 9 months old, her father passed away. Since then, it has been just the two of us, navigating life, healing, and holding onto hope together.

<div>Anyone who knows Kyra knows how special she is. Five words that describe her perfectly are intelligent, obedient, courageous, loving, and amazing. She is gentle, thoughtful, and far wiser than her years — even in moments when she is hurting, she shows strength and grace that leave everyone around her in awe.

<div>In 2025, our world was turned upside down when Kyra was diagnosed with low-grade brain cancer. While the word “low-grade” may sound less frightening, the reality has been anything but easy. She underwent brain surgery in September 2025, and in December 2025, she began chemotherapy. Since then, Kyra has been in constant pain and now relies on a nasogastric (NG) feeding tube, as eating has become difficult and exhausting for her.

<div>Watching your child suffer — especially after already losing so much — is a pain no parent can put into words. Despite everything, Kyra continues to fight with incredible bravery. She still smiles, still loves deeply, and still deserves comfort, joy, and the chance to simply be a child.

</div>

<div>The medical journey has been relentless: hospital stays, specialist appointments, treatments, medications, and ongoing monitoring that may continue for years. While my focus has been on staying by her side through every hospital stay and treatment, the financial strain has become overwhelming. At the beginning of January, while Kyra was hospitalized, I lost my job. Since then, I’ve been struggling to keep up with medical bills, travel to appointments, basic living expenses, and the many unexpected costs that come with caring for a critically ill child — all while being her sole parent and caregiver.

<div>I’m asking for help so that I can focus on what matters most: caring for Kyra, supporting her through treatment, and giving her the stability and love she needs during this fight. Stabilizing After an Unexpected Layoff

<div>My name is Jordan, and I am reaching out because I am facing ongoing, complex health issues that have drastically changed my life. Over the past year, I have been hospitalized 18 times while navigating hemiplegic migraines, trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuralgia, seizures, and an underlying autoimmune disorder that doctors are still working to identify.

<div>My symptoms include numbness on one side of my face and arm, severe neurological pain, and episodes that make everyday life incredibly challenging. I have undergone countless tests and treatments, including chiropractic care, occupational therapy, physical therapy, EMGs, nerve blocks, Botox, rescue medications, and pain management. While these treatments help manage some symptoms, they do not eliminate the pain or provide answers. The uncertainty of not knowing what is truly happening has taken a significant emotional and financial toll.

<div>At this stage in my medical journey, I am now scheduled for a lumbar puncture, a facial MRI, a brain MRI, and a lower back MRI, as doctors are investigating the possibility of a CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) leak. Help Lily Reclaim Her Stolen Childhood

I'm reaching out to you today not with ease, but with necessity. My name is Lorena Hall, and I am living with an LVAD, a Left Ventricular Assist Device, that keeps my heart pumping and keeps me alive. For years, I've managed this complex medical journey with determination and hope, supported by long-term disability from my employer that allowed me to cover my basic needs while focusing on my health. But that safety net has been ripped away, and I'm now facing a crisis I cannot navigate alone.
What Happened: When Safety Nets Fail
<br />My disability insurance company recently discontinued my coverage. This wasn’t because I got better. It wasn't because I no longer needed help. It was a bureaucratic
decision that ended both my disability income and my life insurance in one devastating blow.
To understand the cruelty of this timing, you need to understand my medical reality: I have been classified as terminal due to a rare condition that makes me ineligible for a heart transplant. This isn't a new diagnosis, but it means my pathway to recovery is closed. The LVAD isn't a bridge to transplant for me it's my permanent lifeline. And now, without income, I'm struggling to maintain the very basics that keep that lifeline functioning.
This is the reality for too many Americans living with LVADs. The devices require intensive management, constant medication, and stable living conditions yet the systems designed to support us often fail precisely when we need them most
<br />What an LVAD Means:
Life Support, Not Just a Device
An LVAD is a mechanical pump surgically implanted to assist the heart's left ventricle in pumping blood to the rest of the body. It's used for patients with end-stage heart failure when the heart is too weak to work on its own. For me, it's not optional equipment it's survival technology.
Living with an LVAD means:<br />*Constant power supply: I'm always connected to batteries or a wall unit. If the power goes out and I can't pay the electric bill, my life is literally at risk.<br /> * ﻿﻿Daily medications: Blood thinners, heart medications, antibiotics, and drugs to prevent clot formation in the device. Missing doses isn't an option-it leads to stroke, device failure, or death. <br />* ﻿﻿Medical monitoring: Regular check-ups, lab work, and emergency preparedness. The device requires specialized care that I cannot access if I'm homeless or without transportation.
<br />* ﻿﻿Dietary and lifestyle restrictions: Specific nutritional needs that cost more than standard groceries.
Without financial stability, managing these requirements becomes impossible. And impossible, for me, means fatal.

Rental properties often have less reliable electrical systems or restrictions on medical equipment.
<br />* ﻿﻿Sanitation: LVADs require sterile dressing changes and infection prevention. Homelessness or unstable housing puts me at risk of deadly infections.
<br />* ﻿﻿Proximity to care: My home is near my cardiac center. Moving could mean losing access to the specialists who manage my device. <br />* ﻿﻿Dignity: Terminal doesn't mean ready to give up. I deserve to spend my remaining time in my own space, not a shelter or on the streets. Your donation keeps me housed, which keeps me alive.

Even with Medicare, the out-of-pocket costs for LVAD-related medications are

Here's what people don't see when they look at my LVAD: the psychological weight of financial ruin. Studies show that LVAD patients experience high rates of depression
and anxiety, with quality of life scores often lower than expected despite the device's life-saving function.
When I'm worrying about whether I can pay the mortgage, I'm not monitoring my device alarms properly. When I'm choosing between food and medication, I'm not following my dietary guidelines. When I'm facing homelessness, I'm not planning for my medical future I'm just trying to survive the day.
Your support doesn't just pay bills. It removes the crushing anxiety that makes my heart condition worse. It allows me to focus on what matters: managing my health, finding joy in my remaining time, and maintaining my dignity.

<br />I'm not eligible for a transplant. For many heart failure patients, the LVAD is a "bridge to transplant"—a temporary measure while waiting for a new heart. For me, it's
"destination therapy"-the final treatment option. My rare condition means I'll live with this device until the end of my life, however long that may be.
This isn't a story with a miracle cure. It's a story about quality of life, about choosing how to spend my remaining time, and about the basic human right to die with dignity in my own home rather than on the street.
The disability system failed me. The insurance company prioritized profit over my
survival. But I believe in community. I believe that when systems fail, people can step in. I believe that my life has value even if I'm not "productive" by capitalist standards.
I believe that I deserve to keep my home, my medications, and my peace of mind.
