He's the type of person that would give you a place to stay if you had nowhere to go without any question. He was always willing to help someone out if they needed it. He was a loyal friend, devoted brother, loving father, and a beloved son.

He is survived by his beloved mother, sister, brother-in-law, nieces, nephew, and cousins all of whom live in Florida and who are faced with the difficult task of managing everything that comes with this tragedy from across the country.

<div>Phil Flores is a past student from Newark High, the first school I taught in 1973-1976. He just turned 62 this past Monday, March 8. When I heard of his compassionate courageous desire to get to Poland and help the millions of Ukrainian refugees I volunteered my efforts to raise funds on his behalf for all  his expenses. I asked him to provide me with a short biography. Here it is: "<strong>As a young boy visiting my Mexican grandmother every Saturday was a real treat. It was there where I was inspired and born into the food business. It has been nearly 40 years and my passion for food and people still burns. Throughout my journey, I’ve worked for the best restaurant companies in the world. </strong><strong>In 1985, I opened the 15th Olive Garden in the company, then spent 10 years in the Outback Steakhouse concept before opening my own catering business. It was there I attended Master Classes with Gordon Ramsey and Wolfgang Puck to learn the techniques, skills and concepts of cooking. I dabbled in Kansas City Barbecue and opened over 35 restaurants over a 30 year period. Recently, I discovered my love for Asian cooking and attending Master Classes in Sushi and Nori making. In 2017, I founded an organization called, “CHEFS FOR A CAUSE.” We centered the idea around feeding people after hurricanes in the Southern states."  </strong>Phil, like so many of us, is deeply saddened by what he has witnessed in Ukraine. He has contacted the World Central Kitchen (WCK) <a href="https://www.wck.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">www.wck.org</a> to volunteer to help feed the Ukrainian refugees in Poland. He received a letter March 5 from WCK gladly welcoming his experience and chef skills and actually was hoping to have him there March 6. He has told WCK he can be there March 29th and will stay to at least 3 weeks maybe longer. The WCK <strong>does not provide any financing of his flight to get there nor lodging nor any clothing to help him combat the severe weather conditions. </strong>He needs our donations to pay for his round trip airfare, for winter clothing, to purchase a small tent, camp stove, boots, etc. I’m hoping we can generate enough money in these next few weeks to get him there as well as equip him with the aforementioned necessities. If enough of us could donate a minimum of $5.00, I honestly think we can reach our goal. Please help!!!

Help Send Chef Phil to Poland to Feed Refugees!

<p>SPOILER ALERT!!! If you have not watched the season finale of alone, read this later! Hey guys… as many of you know the outcome now… my good buddy Biko Wright came in second on Alone, season 8, after starting to have heart problems from malnourishment. I’ve started a go fund me for his efforts on Alone on HISTORY to help fund his future in outdoors endeavors , and to help with his twins! Biko went out there injured from ankle surgery, he struggled, put his heart and soul to all. His beloved Rottweiler and adventure buddy Freyja passed away while he was out there,Biko`s fiancé carried the twins on her own for over 100 days while he was away with orientation and quarantine included. She evacuated their home during wild fires with all their pets and was taken in by friends for a few weeks. It was a long hard journey. The show didn’t spend much time showing Biko’s survival skills, but they were what helped him get so far. In the end his body couldn’t keep going. He had a heart condition from lack of nutrition and had to be flown via helicopter before he even got a shower. He had to spend 2 days in the ER recovering.  They told him he could have gone into cardiac arrest had he pushed further, And that they might not have been able to get to him in time to save him. It was painful, but it was the right decision for him. Biko had been recovering from ankle surgery when he found out he was going on the show. Now he has no job to go back to. He’s hoping to find more work in the outdoors fields.  Thank you for watching his journey. If you feel like donating a buck feel free. Greetings, My name is Phil Flores, founder of CHEFS FOR A CAUSE a High Point, NC organization made up of hospitality professionals and employees in the restaurant industry. Relief efforts will focus on immediate food needs of selected communities, workers helping the clean-up efforts,  private and government workers repairing and replacing the infrastructure of the various cities surrounding the Houston area. The needs of the various communities are endless. <strong>THEY NEED OUR</strong> <strong>HELP!</strong> Our purpose of "CHEFS FOR A CAUSE" is to use our talents, enthusiasm and culinary no how to bring basic needs to the community. As the founding member of this North Carolina chapter, I rode out the effects of Hurrican Hugo in 1989. <strong>THE NEEDS ARE ENDLESS!</strong> <strong>THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT</strong>.
