Hi my name is Raymundo. I live and grew up in San Marcos California. Unfortunately for me in 2017 when I was 17 years old I was diagnosed with a rare eye disease called keratoconus. Unfortunately for me my mom was a single mother of 3 and it was tough to get aid and by the time I finally saw a eye doctor when I was 17 and was diagnosed with my disease and it had already gotten severe. Unfortunately it was never caught when I was younger or else I wouldn’t be as blind as I am now at 25 years old. I cannot do simple tasks on my own and glasses or contacts are no help for my eyes because of the shape of my eyes bulging outside because of the disease. My only options are to have surgery which only slow down the process of the disease. My only hopes is to have another surgery to keep the progression slow. It has been a hard journey for me when one day I was able to see so clear and the next day see close to nothing which will be for the rest of my life as there is no cure for my disease. I hope to fix my eyes and change my life back to normal and make my family proud. Before I almost completely lost my vision I loved to play sports. I was very good at soccer and football. And was a keystone member at the boys and girls club. I loved going on hikes and would hike double peak mountain and lake San Marcos almost three times a week. I went to palomar college after graduating high school but dropped out because of the severity of my eyes and depression. I hope to get a second chance and accept my disease and love myself to get through this. Thank you for listening and reading my story.
