I’m Rahul Mohite, and alongside our Creative Director, Kirti Jain, I am working to bring a deeply personal vision to life. This isn't just an animated short; it’s a tribute to the craftsmen, the quiet heroes, and the parts of ourselves we fear might become "obsolete." The Heart of the Story: Silas and the Spirit The Light Keeper follows Silas, a meticulous man who has spent his entire life in a magnificent lighthouse. He knows every gear, every prism, and the exact weight of the silence that surrounds him. But in a world of satellites and GPS, Silas’s light is no longer needed. He is a master of a craft that the world has forgotten. His days are spent in a "pointless" ritual—polishing a lens no one watches for and winding a clock no one hears—until a violent storm changes everything. Amidst the crashing waves, Silas discovers a Spirit—a tiny, flickering piece of the cosmos that has fallen from the stars. It is wounded, its light almost extinguished. In that moment, Silas’s life finds a new, profound purpose. Using his weathered tools and his gentle, clockmaker’s hands, he begins the delicate process of mending a magical creature. In healing the Spirit, Silas discovers that no one, and no light, is ever truly obsolete. Why We Are Fundraising As the Production Manager, my goal is to ensure that Kirti’s stunning artistic vision is matched by the highest technical quality. We are building this entire film in Blender, utilizing the Cycles engine to achieve "Pixar-level" lighting and emotion. Your support directly funds the essential "hard costs" of this 6-minute film: The Render Farm: To output 45 shots in beautiful 4K resolution. The Score: A sweeping, wordless orchestral soundtrack that serves as the film's "voice." Technical FX: Creating the magical, flickering light of the Spirit and the stylized storm. Our Commitment to You This is a passion project, but it is also a professional one. We have already completed the character models, environment designs, and storyboards. We are ready to move into production in February 2026. When you back this project, you aren’t just funding a film; you are joining a team of creators who believe that independent animation can tell stories that stay with you forever. Story: Have you ever felt left behind by the world you love? Silas has. He's the meticulous, devoted keeper of a magnificent lighthouse. He knows every gear, every prism of the giant lens, and every second of its lonely, sweeping rotation. But in a new world of satellites and GPS, his light is no longer needed by the sea. His days are spent in a solitary, 'pointless' ritual: polishing a lens no one watches for, winding a clock no one hears, and painting a future for himself that looks empty... Until a storm brings a new kind of light. During a violent tempest, Silas rescues a tiny, flickering being from the rocks—a Spirit, a childlike piece of the cosmos, a fallen star. Its light is almost out. Using the only skills he has, Silas trades his lens-polishing cloth for a bandage and his clockwork tools for a surgeon's instruments. "The Light-keeper" is a 6-minute, wordless animated short about how this old-world craftsman, with no magic of his own, gently mends a magical creature. In healing it, he finds a new, profound purpose and discovers that no one, and no light, is ever truly obsolete. The Characters Silas (The Keeper): Inspired by the kind, weary grandfathers of classic animation, Silas is the heart of our story. His hands are weathered from a life of work, but his touch is gentle. He's a master of his craft, and his journey is from melancholy isolation to quiet, wondrous peace. The Spirit (The Light): The Spirit is pure, innocent magic. It's curious, fragile, and made of starlight. Its design is simple, allowing its inner-glowing core to express its every emotion—flickering in fear, pulsing in health, and shining with joy. The Vision: "Pixar-Style" Heart, Made in Blender This is a story told entirely through visuals and music. Like the best animated shorts, the absence of words makes its themes universal. We're aiming for the highest quality, "Pixar-style" animation: appealing characters, rich, magical lighting, and a story with a powerful emotional core. To achieve this, we are building the entire film in Blender. Why Blender? Blender is the open-source tool that has revolutionized animation. It allows independent creators like me to tell stories at a scope and quality that was once only possible for major studios. This entire project—from the first model to the final 4K render—is a love letter to the Blender community and the power of independent animation. How will Use funds? Your funds pays for the essential, unavoidable hard costs that are required to bring a 30-minute, 4K animated film to the screen. Render Farm Costs (30% - £6,000): This is the most critical technical cost. To get the beautiful, "Pixar-level" lighting and detail (using Cycles), a 6-minute, 4K film requires thousands of hours of computer render time. Your pledge pays for a professional render farm to get this done. Original Score & Sound Design (25% - £5,000): For a wordless film, music and sound are 50% of the experience. This budget allows us to hire a professional composer and sound designer to create a sweeping, emotional score. Software Licenses & Assets (15% - £3,000): This covers specialized Blender add-ons (for rigging, clouds, water), texture libraries, and post-production software to make the film look its best. Reward Fulfillment (15% - £3,000): The cost of manufacturing and shipping the beautiful physical rewards (pins, posters, art books) to you, our backers. Stretch Goals If we are lucky enough to pass our initial goal, we can make this project even more special! £25,000 - [LOCKED] - Live String Quartet! The ultimate dream. At this level, we can hire a live string quartet to perform the film's score, adding a layer of human warmth that digital instruments can't match. £30,000 - [LOCKED] - The Festival Circuit! This gives us a dedicated budget to submit "The Lightkeeper" to every major animation festival in the world (Annecy, TIFF, Sundance) to get our story seen! £35,000 - [LOCKED] - "Making Of" Documentary! We will hire a video editor to create a full, 90-minute "Making Of" documentary, diving deep into the Blender production process. Meet the Core Team This project is led by a small, dedicated core team who are passionate about bringing The Lightkeeper's emotional story to life with professional, high-quality animation. Kirti Jain — Creative Director Kirti is the visionary and chief artistic voice behind The Lightkeeper. As Creative Director, this project is her ambitious debut, drawing on her deep technical skills in 3D to craft every visual detail. "My goal is to make every frame feel like a painting. This story is deeply personal—it’s about proving that even the quietest moments hold the most purpose. I've designed Silas's world, the lighting, and the character performance to speak volumes without needing many words." Kirti is responsible for the final artistic approval of all character performance, environment design, lighting, and the overall look and feel, ensuring the film achieves its cinematic quality. Rahul Mohite — Production Manager ⚙️ Rahul is the project architect and logistical backbone of the production. With a rigorous eye for detail, Rahul ensures Kirti's artistic vision remains grounded in the timeline and budget. "As Production Manager, my job is to ensure we hit our deadlines, manage the rendering pipeline, and make sure every pledge dollar goes exactly where it needs to. I’m dedicated to the transparency of our budget and delivering this film to our backers on schedule." Rahul is responsible for managing the 11-month production timeline, overseeing the render farm logistics, and coordinating the delivery of all physical and digital backer rewards. Supporting Teams (Our Crucial Collaborators) While Kirti and Rahul form the core production unit, the following talented teams are essential partners in bringing the film to completion, and they will be funded directly by your pledges: The Sound & Music Team (25% of Budget) Since The Lightkeeper relies on visuals and emotion, the score and sound design are crucial. This external team will be responsible for composing the emotional orchestral score and creating the unique auditory world—from the fierce, muffled sound of the storm to the distinct TICK-TOCK of Silas's clock and the magical CHIME of the Spirit. The Technical & FX Team (30% of Budget) This team includes the specialized Render Farm Services necessary to output the thousands of high-resolution 4K frames. They handle the heavy computing that transforms the Blender files into the final, high-quality images ready for cinema. The Fulfillment Team (15% of Budget) This external logistics partner is responsible for the manufacturing quality of all physical goods (pins, posters, books) and coordinating the global shipping to ensure every backer receives their rewards accurately and safely.
