What they care about

I’m Prins Nicolas, Belgian Amsterdam-based artist exploring identity, tenderness, and belonging, creating work that questions ideas and moves people.

My name is Prins Nicolas , and I am an artist based in Amsterdam. In February 2026, I will take part in an artist residency at Kobe Artist in Residence (Kobe AiR ) in Japan for the whole month of February. This residency is an important step in my artistic development. My work focuses on queer and mixed-race identity, belonging, and lived experience, and working in a new cultural context will allow me to further develop my practice and research. During my stay at Kobe AiR, I will create a new body of work that will form the basis for a larger project and exhibition in Amsterdam in the fall of 2026. The residency will also end with my first pop-up exhibition in Japan, where I will present my work to a new audience and connect with other artists and institutions. Kobe AiR provides accommodation and a studio, but I need to cover my own daily living expenses and travel. As an independent artist, these costs are difficult to cover on my own, which is why I am asking for support. The main costs are: Purchase of art materials: € 400 Daily expenses (food & local transport): € 1.400 Flight back from Osaka to Amsterdam: €1.200 This residency is a meaningful opportunity that will directly support my artistic practice and future projects. Any contribution, regardless of size, will help make this possible. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting my work.
