Today on April 20, 2020, I lost my father, Max Oscar Ortega. On March 29, we did a small celebration for my birthday, and I drove my dad to Overlook Hospital that night. I did not know that would be the last time I would see him. I didn’t get to say good bye. I just turned 18, and didn’t even get the chance to tell him, I was accepted and commit to Saint Peter’s University on a full ride. He won’t be able to see my graduate from high school and from college. He won’t be able to walk me down the aisle. I’m heartbroken. 

My dad was the one who earned money for our rent / bills... and as a family, we did not prepare for funeral arrangements. After calling several funeral homes, we were given the estimate of $9,000.00 to $10,000.00 if we wanted to have a burial, a small memorial with less than 10 people, tombstone, and the lot at the graveyard. For a cremation with no service, the estimate was $3,500.00 to $4,000.00.

My dad was Catholic, and while we would prefer to have the memorial and burial, we cannot afford it. I want to raise money to be able to properly say good bye to my dad. All money raised would go to his funeral arrangements. 

I need all the help I can get. If for some reason, we make more than enough money, it will go towards our rent and essential bills.

Hoy, el 20 de abril de 2020, perdí a mi padre, Max Oscar Ortega. El 29 de marzo, hicimos una pequeña celebración por mi cumpleaños y esa noche llevé a mi papá al Overlook Hospital. No sabía que sería la última vez que lo vería. No pude despedirme. Acabo de cumplir 18 años, y ni siquiera tuve la oportunidad de decirle, fui aceptado y comprometido con Saint Peters University con becca completa. No podrá ver a mi graduado de la escuela secundaria y de la universidad. No podrá acompañarme cuando me case. Tengo el corazón partido.

Mi padre fue el que ganó dinero por nuestro renta / facturas ... y como familia, no nos preparamos para los arreglos del funeral. Después de llamar a varias funerarias, nos dieron un estimado de $ 9,000.00 a $ 10,000.00 si queríamos un entierro, un pequeño monumento con menos de 10 personas, lápidas y el lote en el cementerio. Para una cremación sin servicio, el estimado fue de $ 3,500.00 a $ 4,000.00. 

Mi padre era católico, y aunque preferiríamos tener el memorial y el entierro, no podemos pagarlo. Quiero recaudar dinero para poder despedirme de mi padre. Todo el dinero recaudado iría a sus arreglos funerarios. Necesito toda la ayuda que pueda obtener. Si por alguna razón, hacemos dinero más que suficiente, se destinará a nuestros alquileres y facturas esenciales.
