Hello everyone! My name is Parker Chambers, a graduating senior at Spelman College, majoring in Economics and minoring in Public Health, from Pasadena, California. I'm humbled to share that I was accepted into every graduate program I applied to, including Yale, the University of Michigan, Boston University, and the University of Chicago. However, as I prepare for this next step, I'm navigating a major challenge of affordability. Most, if not all, of these programs are nearly 6 figures, and right now, even with loans, I’m unsure if this next step will be feasible. But how did I get here? Making this choice in the first place? As I reflect on my journey going to Spelman from my high school where few students looked like me, Spelman has completely transformed and built me into the woman I am today. At Spelman, I've had a safe space to thrive, grow as a person, make mistakes and learn from them, be introspective, and discover my passions. Spelman instills in all of us that it is "our choice to change the world," and since childhood that has been my goal, my passion, and my dream. Every child says: "I want to be President!" and I can honestly tell you that statement rings just as true now as it did then. This dream, the dream of being an advocate for others, a leader has kept me going throughout my time at Spelman and inspired my mantra that: "Policy without people is just paper." This mantra has guided me while I co-founded the Spelman Future Public Health Leaders and the Spelman Health Advocacy Initiative. I have had the honor of being apart of a visionary team of amazing leaders who have been so diligent in our efforts that we have a Georgia House Resolution recognizing us (HR 1624). I have championed and fought against healthcare inequality at every juncture in my life and I do NOT plan to stop now. Spelman has fostered the qualities that were hidden away in high school, and will never leave again. I am a changemaker, problem solver, empath, servant leader, and probably one of the most direct people you will ever meet. In short, I want the chance to create policy that champions people, cares about people and can leave this world better than how I found it, which I guess leads me to why I'm here. I need YOU. The community that has championed my every effort at Spelman and the community that I want to fight for. I need YOU to help me on the next leg of my journey because I have never been one to give up. Donate, and if you can't donate, please share and help me achieve this dream! Any little bit helps, $1, $5, $10, etc. You can also donate on Zelle: [phone redacted] (under the name Patricia Chambers) or Venmo: parkerchamberss.  Thank you for being part of my journey.
