<div>Amid another lockdown there I was, completing my Bachelor of Science Open at The Open University and thinking to myself about the global reaction to the pandemic. Chaos was king and I found it very difficult to voice my concerns in this new-normal world.

<div>So due to the <strong>impossibility</strong> to meet people, I got into audio-based social media (Clubhouse) and started hosting weekly talks about the <em>Future of Europe</em>. These discussions brought more people together than I expected and gave me the idea to dip into my savings to start my next big project:

<div>Europe matters is a podcast series that explores various subjects with guests from all walks of life. We discuss important and thought-provoking topics like colonialism, female reproduction rights, participatory democracy, mass tourism, and many more that involve Europe and its continent.

<div>Europe is such a vague concept; it is not only a geographical location that hosts around 750 million people, but it is also a place where various ideals clash with each other. From a federally united Europe to the conflicted concept of nation-states.

<div>People within Europe often identify with the flag from the country they come from<em>, but does that exclude them from being European? Will there ever be a United States of Europe? And most importantly what does it mean to be European?</em>
</div>

</div>

<div>In this series we explore these questions with thought leaders, artists, academics, writers, comedians, actors, civil society leaders, activists and all those who care about the future of Europe. Their experiences and vested interest in European issues make their insight only more valuable.

<div>In each episode, I try my best to ask critical questions and delve deep into the various developments concerning Europe and its Continent. Depending on the subject, I then expand the topic from a European perspective to one that involves the world in a broader sense.

In this special interview, Ilja talks about a number of questions surrounding Europe, like what it means to feel European and by discussing his book "Grand Hotel Europa" we explore the phenomenon of mass tourism that "plagues" Venice.

<div>I'm 17, I'm from Italy and I have the chance to participate at a wonderful program the NHSMUN (National High School Model United Nations) which will be in New York (pretty far !) , in March 2014.
</div>
<div>To be able to attend I'm asking for your help as I alone am not able to pay for the whole fee.
</div>
<div>The goal of the program is that each one of us participants (from 40 different nations) will act like a delegate.
</div>
<div>I'm to represent a country that will be given to me and I will have to act as it is my own, defending, discussing and resolving the problems that are presented to us.This will all be a simulation that will happen inside the real General Assembly Hall of the UN in New York. I'm very exited to be part of this program! It's not going to be an easy job but it will be very satisfactory. I'm sure this experience will increase many of my skills especially my presentational ones since I will have to talk in front of the whole assembly (3500 delegates).

<div>After this experience I'm sure I'll be readier for the world and will be able to accomplish part of my dreams. Two of them are to to diminish tension between people and to solve misunderstandings .

United Nations : Next Youth Delegate

<div>This initiative is spearheaded by Maboshe Nyambe, a renowned radio presenter affiliated with Lukulu FM Community Radio Station. Operating in one of the most remote and impoverished districts of Zambia's Western Province, Maboshe is taking action on behalf of John and his mother to bring awareness to their plight and rally support for their well-being.

<div>Through his weekly radio program, aptly named *Community Connections*, Maboshe has had two significant encounters with the struggles faced by this family. His first insight came a year ago, followed by a closer look just a month ago in 2025. During these encounters, he gained firsthand knowledge of their tough living conditions and daily hardships. Motivated to understand their reality more deeply, Maboshe visited their home and discovered that the situation for John and his mother—a single parent devoid of any stable income—was even bleaker than he initially anticipated.

<div>Given the challenges John’s mother faces and her lack of access to the tools or resources needed to initiate an online fundraising campaign on her own, Maboshe has stepped forward as a capable and trustworthy intermediary to manage this endeavor. His goal is to ensure that every penny raised is utilized transparently and directed solely toward improving John’s care, advancing his education, and addressing the most pressing needs of the family.

<div>John is a courageous 15-year-old boy living with Spina Bifida, a condition that requires constant care, medical treatment, and special support. His mother Rosalia Mumba, aged 58, has been his only source of strength since his father left, unable to cope with the challenges of raising a child with special needs.

<div>Every day, she works tirelessly—selling fritters to earn what little she can—to provide for her son.
</div>
<div>Yet, the expenses far outweigh what she manages to earn. John’s needs are many:
</div>
<div>•	Regular physiotherapy to manage his condition.
</div>
<div>•	A proper wheelchair to give him mobility and independence.
</div>
<div>•	Basic daily necessities such as food, diapers, and medical supplies.
</div>
<div>•	Access to special education, including tuition, transportation, and a caretaker to accompany him.
</div>
<div>Despite all the challenges, John shines in his studies and dreams of continuing his education in a specialschoolwherehecanthrive.Hisdeterminationandresilienceinspireeveryonewhomeetshim. But without financial help, this dream cannot become reality.
</div>
