Palmyra Cemetery Project

Friends of Portage County Cemeteries Volunteers with the Palmyra Sexton, are working to ensure the founders and heroes of Palmyra, Ohio, are never forgotten. We are launching a mission to restore four local old church cemeteries and the one main cemetery, where historical headstones and history are literally crumbling away. Our Mission: Saving 200 years of History with new plaques Saving two hundred, plus years of history. Currently, dozens of headstones and monuments, many over one hundred and fifty years old, are in such worn condition that the names are completely unreadable. These are the final resting places of Palmyra pioneers, and their children, who built our town, and the veterans who fought to protect our homes and country. If we don’t act now, their legacy, stories and tombstones will be lost to time and fade away. How will we use the funds: To honor these individuals properly, we are raising funds for NEW PERMANENT PLAQUES: for tombstones that are unmarked, not legible, or too damaged to repair, we will install quality-granite, weather resistant plaques so their names can be read clearly for the next century. Each plaque will cost $55 which includes install with a base by the township. Any size donation amount towards one plaque or several is welcomed.
