What Orange cares about

Transforming the lives of pets and people—building community, saving lives, and finding forever homes.

  1. Monte is the sweetest pup you’ll ever meet, despite the discomfort he has endured for far too long. Monte is battling chronic skin infections, ear infections, and dry eye. These conditions will never be 'cured' but instead 'managed' long term. To get him back on his paws, he has needed intensive daily care, including oral medications, eye drops, medicated baths, and supplements like fish oil to rebuild his skin's health. He also needed special surgery to remove a mass on his side, and we are relieved to report that it came back as benign! However, his journey is far from over. He is currently scheduled for a necessary dental procedure at a partner clinic to address dental issues that are affecting his overall well-being. Monte needs more than just temporary relief; he needs a long-term commitment to his health and keeping his infections at bay. We've gotten him started on the right path and we are raising funds to cover his dental surgery, his mass removal surgery, his many medications and supplements, and other items needed to keep him comfortable. Every donation, no matter the size, brings Monte one step closer to a life free from itching and discomfort. If you cannot donate, please share his story to help us find the support he deserves. He has been the happiest and most positive patient we could hope for, and we're excited to help him even more.

  2. Help Orange County Animal Services keep our furry friends warm this winter. As temperatures drop, outdoor pets need shelter from the cold. We are collecting donations to purchase dog houses and straw to help keep community pets warm. Sturdy dog houses will help to protect pets from the elements, and straw bedding helps to insulate them, keeping the area warm and dry. Why we use straw: Straw insulates: Straw's hollow stalks trap air, creating a warm, insulated nest. Resists moisture: Unlike blankets and towels, which absorb moisture and can freeze, straw repels water, staying dry and mold-free. Hay is not a substitute: Hay absorbs moisture and can rot, causing illness. You can make a lifesaving difference for these vulnerable pets by donating to our campaign. Join us in giving these pets the gift of warmth this winter.

  3. Sponsor a Heartworm Treatment – Save a Life! Heartworm treatment is a costly but critical part of saving the lives of shelter dogs. By sponsoring a heartworm-positive dog for just $250, you’ll cover the full cost of diagnostics and treatment—giving that dog a second chance at a healthy, happy life. Your sponsorship directly offsets the medical costs incurred by the shelter, freeing up vital resources for other animals in need. Whether you’re an adopter or a compassionate member of the community, your medical donation helps us go further, save more lives, and ensure no dog is left behind due to a treatable condition. In North Carolina and other areas, it’s common for dogs to have heartworms (they are transmitted by mosquito bites). Heartworm disease may cause severe lung disease, heart failure, or other organ damage - resulting in the loss of a beloved pet. With your support, we can continue to improve our treatment protocol and help more dogs with this disease - resulting in healthier, adoptable dogs! OCAS is grateful for lifesaving donations that sustain critical medical care for shelter pets. Sponsor hope. Sponsor healing. Sponsor a heartworm treatment today.
