<div>We’re raising funds on behalf of our dear friend Alice, who is urgently seeking gender-affirming top surgery. They are a kind, compassionate, and resilient person who deserves to live comfortably and confidently in their body, but the current system is making that nearly impossible.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As a nonbinary person, they have been on a long journey toward feeling at home in themself. Top surgery is a critical step in that journey, one that would have a profoundly positive impact on their mental health, daily functioning, and overall well-being. Unfortunately, private healthcare is not financially accessible for them, and the NHS waiting list is painfully long, with no clear end in sight.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The truth is, waiting years for this surgery is not a safe or viable option. The toll it takes on their mental health is severe and ongoing. That’s why we’re asking for your help to raise £7,000 to cover the costs of private top surgery and associated expenses (like travel, consultations, and recovery).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Every donation, big or small, brings them closer to the comfort, and autonomy they deserve. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with your network would mean the world to us.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Thank you for reading, for caring, and for showing up for someone who truly needs your support right now.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Alice needs top surgery. Newcastle needs Alice’s coffee. Let’s make both happen.
</div>

<div>Hi Fatcake nation! I am currently raising money in an effort to be able to go forward with HRT through a private company.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>A little bit of backstory, I came out when I was around 7-8 years old, and started socially transitioning not long after, so this step in my life is truly a decade overdue! Any support would be so genuinely appreciated, I’ve fought a lot of battles concerning my gender identity and the woman I know I am from a young age and so to be able to take this step would mean the world to me!

<div>Hey there,
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>With your support last year, we were able to keep our friend Amira safe from unsafe housing and forced detransition while seeking asylum. Thanks to your enormous generosity Amira was able to go to her Home Office interview armed with the top-notch legal advice that helped her secure her refugee status.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, not everybody facing their Home Office interview is as lucky to have had the amazing support that Amira had. On the same day you all same to down to The Old Coal Yard to help us keep Amira safe, another trans woman and asylum seeker, Zaya, was finding sanctuary in the North East.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Asylum seekers in the UK are entitled to legal aid to help them prepare their cases. In reality, demand for legal aid far outstrips supply. Zaya was eventually able to obtain a lawyer, but not before her substantive Home Office interview. Forced to go to her interview without legal aid, Zaya’s claim was denied as they did not believe she was transgender. This means she risks facing deportation to Saudi Arabia unless her original decision is successfully appealed.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Contesting the grounds of her refusal means proving to a tribunal that she is transgender. We’ve been communicating with Zaya’s lawyer to figure out how we can help her appeal, and we’ve identified that one of the best things that we can do is to help Zaya obtain medical and diagnostic evidence to prove her trans status.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Zaya’s life and freedom would be at great risk if she were deported to Saudi Arabia. Zaya has already been arrested twice in her home country for breaking Saudi Arabia’s strict dress codes.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As a mutual aid collective for trans and non-binary people, Big Gay Fund is passionate about helping the asylum seekers in our community, as we recognise the uniquely difficult intersection of being both trans and an asylum seeker in the UK.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>As many of you will be aware, Gender Identity Clinic waitlists are so long that Zaya will not be seen by the NHS before her appeal date. This means our only option is to pursue private healthcare options, and this means asking for your help.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The unfortunate reality is that even some of the private services for trans people have substantial waitlists. This is time that Zaya does not have. This means that we are forced to look the premium end of the private market for diagnostic and medical evidence. The goal that we’ve set reflects the estimated costs of obtaining diagnoses, blood tests, letters from clinicians and the other associated costs that come with signing onto a more premium service.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>We will keep you updated on Zaya’s journey and let you know how her appeal case progresses.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Amira is safe, living as herself, and enjoying her life with her friends in the North East without fear of deportation or persecution thanks to your support. Please, if you can, help us give Zaya that same chance.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you'd like to get in contact or follow along we're at @big_gay_fund on Instagram. Stay tuned for updates on Zaya's case and everybody else who we're currently supporting.

Zaya's Asylum Appeal

<div>Hello, you may remember us from last year's campaign and the Queer2Queer Trans Asylum Auction for Amira's living expenses and transition costs.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Your generous support has allowed Amira to live, stay in her home, and continue her transition while she awaits the outcome of her asylum case.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Now 9 months after Amira's right to work was removed by the government, she has been given a date for her substantive interview with the Home Office. This will decide whether or not Amira will be allowed to stay in the UK.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>This is why we are here again asking for your generous support. This time we are aiming to raise £1000 to create a legal fund for Amira. This will allow us to hire a solicitor to take on Amira's case to give her the best possible shot at a positive outcome.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you are as disgusted as we are with this week's UK supreme court judgement, and you've had the pleasure of meeting Amira, or if you just want to support a trans woman and asylum seeker in need, please consider supporting our campaign.

<div>Hi everyone, this is Spain, Katie Greenwood Ross’ fiancé and partner of 9 years.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Katie is a self-employed Providence-based artist whose creativity, generosity, and kindness has touched and inspired not just those closest to her, but the thousands who know her through her work.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Katie was recently diagnosed with stage-3 breast cancer, and the required treatment schedule has led to a needed pause of her business, Thistle Thistle. Last month, I closed my own business to work with Katie at Thistle Thistle full time. With that combination, this means a total loss of our household income at an incredibly critical and taxing time.
</div>
<div><br />
</div><img class="m-text-editor-image" alt="" media_type="3" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/78187949_1707506832954688_r." width="100%" />
<div><br />
</div>
<div>While Katie is receiving treatment, I will be caring for her and trying to run her business, as well as driving her to and from appointments, and advocating for her with doctors.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>The primary costs of chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation should be covered by health insurance, though Katie’s deductible is rather high and additional services (e.g., egg freezing and cold capping) are not covered by insurance. Katie, Myself, and everyone who loves her would be so grateful for any funds you might be able to contribute to help cover her medical and life expenses.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I know there are so many people who love and support Katie, and she always glows and smiles when she receives messages, letters, and e-mails from everyone, your support really means so much to us.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>If you are unable to contribute financially, we would so appreciate your thinking of her and sharing her GoFundMe.
</div>

Help Katie Ross - Thistlethistle Fight Cancer

<div><strong>My name is Angel Maxine, Ghana's first openly transgender musician. I use my platform to advocate for trans inclusion and LGBTQI+ visibility in Ghana and across Africa. I’m raising money for a hip replacement so I can continue my music and activism without pain and immobility.</strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Unfortunately, healthcare in Ghana is not free and I do not earn any money from my music or activism. I am unemployed because no one in Ghana will hire a trans woman; I used to work as a chef.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I'm only 37 but have been using a walking stick for the last two months. I'm already in lots of pain, but until I can receive surgery, my condition is expected to get worse.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Last year, I made another GoFundMe and, over the last twelve months, have been blessed by people from all over the world. However, this money was donated so that I could continue making music and doing activism, as well as pay for my basic cost of living and move my mum to a safer place to live. I have managed to do these things and, as such, have temporarily ceased donations to it. This new GoFundMe is specifically for my hip replacement surgery, which I don't have money left to cover.
</div>
<div><br />

<div><strong>Thank you for all your support and love. </strong>Anything you are able to give - no matter how small - will be greatly appreciated. Please share if you can!

<div>The estimated cost of surgery used to be just over £9000 GBP because I was planning to get the surgery done in Ghana. However, due to the anti-LGBT+ bill, I’m now going to have the surgery in Germany, which we think will cost nearer £15000. Here is a breakdown of our previous estimations:

</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Below you will find more details about the hip replacement surgery I need. </strong>
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I have been dealing with progressively worsening hip pain in my left pelvic region. The pain started acutely a few months ago, which I used to manage with painkillers. Over the weeks, I built resistance to the painkillers, which resulted in a decline in my mobility. Due to the pain I experience when putting any pressure on my left leg, I’m now using a walking stick. Despite being in severe pain while living in Ghana, where my very existence as a trans woman is threatened, I still give back through facilitating training workshops for the LGBTQ+ community and engaging in my activism and music.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In September 2022, I travelled to Johannesburg, South Africa for a Trans Capacity Building Conference. While attending the conference, the pain became unbearable, so I was rushed to the Milpark Hospital in Parktown, where the doctor requested an emergency X-ray from the Radiologist. I was referred to Rosebank Hospital, where the MRI scan was done, and was diagnosed with Osteonecrosis (Avascular Necrosis).
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>I was only in South Africa for ten days, so I returned to Ghana with a referral letter for further testing. I have since received two second-opinions from specialists in Ghana. They both agree that the only way forward is to perform a total hip-replacement surgery. I need this surgery in order to walk without pain and a limp, which will hugely improve my quality of life and enable me to continue my work as a musician and activist.
