<div>Hello my name is Kate and a few months ago, I left Nepal to return to living in the UK after spending a number of years working at The British School Kathmandu. Although I am no longer a member of staff, Nepal remains a place very close to my heart, and it has been heartbreaking to see the scale of the devastation caused by the recent floods and landslides.

<div>Hundreds of people have lost their lives, many more remain missing, and tens of thousands have been affected. Homes and livelihoods have been destroyed, communities have been cut off, and search and rescue teams continue to work in extremely difficult conditions. The scale of this disaster is extraordinary, and for many families the need for practical, immediate support is immense.

<div>I know that my former colleagues and the wider community at The British School are determined to do what they can to help. The school is running a disaster-relief donation drive, collecting essential items and using financial donations to purchase additional supplies. These are being organised into practical kits for families who have lost homes and possessions, as well as supplies to support those involved in the rescue and relief effort.

<div>The items being collected and purchased include essentials such as school supplies for children, basic household and kitchen equipment, hygiene items and other practical resources that people may suddenly find themselves without. They are also providing PPE kits for those working in rescue and recovery. The school is working with established organisations, including the Nepal Red Cross, whose local networks and distribution capacity can help ensure that assistance reaches communities where it is genuinely needed. The Nepal Red Cross is already providing food, blankets, mattresses, hygiene kits, drinking water and other emergency assistance across affected areas.

<div>Having known The British School Kathmandu community for many years, I have every confidence in the seriousness with which it is approaching this effort. This is a community that knows Nepal, cares deeply about the people around it and understands the importance of turning generosity into useful, practical support.

<div>For those of us who have been fortunate enough to call Nepal home, even for part of our lives, it is difficult to watch such suffering from a distance. Nepal has given so much to so many of us: friendship, hospitality, extraordinary experiences and a sense of community that stays with you long after you leave.

Support families affected by the devastating floods

<div>Hi, my name is Jonathan and I am fundraising for Nedaa Al-Shanti, a widow living in Gaza. Nedaa's husband, the breadwinner of the family, was martyred during the war on the Gaza Strip. As a result, Nedaa is now a single mother living with her thirteen year old daughter. Nedaa does all that she can to support her daughter, but she has no source of income.

<div>In addition to the terrible loss of her husband and consequential hardships, Nedaa and her daughter have no home to shelter them. Their house was completely destroyed by Israeli bombing. For many months they have now been living in a makeshift tent which lets in the rain and the bitter cold.

<div>Nedaa needs help to pay for her medical issues. She suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes for which she needs medication. She also requires eye drops which she has to purchase every month at a high cost.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>On top of the medical issues, there are the everyday costs to find food, water and warm clothes in Gaza, simply in order to survive. Because food prices in Gaza are so expensive, the family suffers from a lack of basic nourishment.
</div>

<div>Nedaa and her daughter are alive and living in Northern Gaza. Currently they are threatened by the invasion of North Gaza and may need to evacuate to the south imminently. They are ill-prepared for such a move due to lack of money. They are very in need of support for both accommodation (they have no tent) and also for food. If you are able to help with a donation that would be greatly appreciated. A friend in Gaza recently went to visit Nedaa and he told me these exact words: "She deserves donations more than anyone else."  Thank you.

Unfortunately the Party resisted and the court ruled against Jeremy. As a result Jeremy was left with a bill for £33.000 to cover the Labour Party's costs.

Help me save my family from gaza war

<div><b>Following the sad passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Mother in Law, Sister, Aunt and Friend we are raising funds for the Nambi Sseppuuya Community Resource Centre in rural Uganda. Raj Patel her son will match donations up to a total of £600.</b>

<div><b>The family have supported this project for more than ten years because of the connection to where he and his brothers were born and raised by their Mother. Jinja holds many special memories of childhood. This resource centre combats illiteracy and period poverty for girls, so they can access education. They also have a mobile library which takes books and information to some of the most remote areas in this part of Uganda.</b>

<div><b>The resource centre has successfully built three residential units which they plan to rent to key workers needing accommodation. Despite delays due to Covid19 the units are now almost finished. A secure rental income will support the library and its community activities going forward and reduce the reliance on donations. She is well known and trusted in Kensington, has pledged to work beyond party politics with all communities and has proven experience, commitment, and diligence in the service of the people of the borough.

Call out for Emma Dent Coad

<div>This fundraiser was set up in 2020 to raise money to defend former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn against a threat of libel. That threat did not materialise. However, Jeremy was sued for libel by Richard Millett and had no choice but to defend the case. The case was settled in October 2022. Although the settlement vindicated Jeremy and cleared his name, he has been left with an enormous bill for the work undertaken by his legal team in preparing his defence over the previous three and a half years.

After a frantic search for information about my loved ones, I was thankfully able after some time to confirm that they were safe but the town was in ruins. The earthquake has caused immense damage to Pazarcik, leaving around 80% of the town in shambles, and many residents without a home. Sadly, I have learned that around 20 of my school friends have not survived.

<div>The government and international organisations have focused their relief efforts on larger cities, leaving small towns like Pazarcik struggling to find help. As someone who cares deeply about my hometown and its residents, I want to do everything I can to provide support and relief in these trying times.

Turkey earthquake appeal for town of Pazarcik

<div><strong>My name is Shahd Abusalama and I’m a third-generation Palestinian refugee activist, artist, and writer. I am suing Sheffield Hallam University (SHU), my former employer, for discrimination and for publicly attacking me in the Zionist press. </strong>

<div>I was born in Jabalia Refugee Camp, occupied Gaza, after my grandparents’ expulsion from their villages Beit Jerja and Isdud during the 1948 Nakba that condemned us to a life of oppression under Israeli occupation. After finishing my undergraduate degree, and surviving multiple Israeli military attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip, I left in 2013 to further my higher education in Media Studies. I obtained an MA at SOAS (London) before taking up a Ph.D. scholarship at SHU, where I completed my dissertation between 2018 and 2021, and also worked as a teaching assistant.

<div>I continued to work amplifying the Palestinian aspirations for freedom, justice, equality, and return from abroad, including after my appointment as a lecturer in January 2022. I was <strong>repeatedly investigated, and exonerated, by SHU under the controversial IHRA definition of anti-Semitism, which conflates anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism</strong>, and was <a href="https://www.uklfi.com/sheffield-hallam-university-adopts-ihra-definition" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">adopted</a> by SHU in the face of government threats to withdraw funding. I attended my graduation ceremony on 17 November 2022, the week after the Jewish Chronicle attacked me in an <a href="https://www.thejc.com/news/news/lecturer-who-praised-terrorist-as-'beautiful-fighter'-no-longer-employed-by-university-4MthxkFRRlT7Pt0nPoi9fN?reloadTime=1671580102561" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">article</a> citing derogatory assertions about me by SHU, <strong>in breach of confidentiality</strong>.

<div>Like so many Palestinians in the UK, I am subjected to tactics of vilification and censorship to try and silence opposition to Israel’s systematic oppression of Palestinians. <strong>We are criminalised and hounded for celebrating our existence</strong>, speaking of our experiences and challenging vilifications of our history and image.

<div>Since <a href="https://www.jewishnews.co.uk/sheffield-hallam-u-investigates-tweets-defending-stop-palestinian-holocaust-poster/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">24 December 2021</a>, when I was appointed as an associate lecturer on Postcolonial Media Culture, I have been targeted with <strong>intensified anti-Palestinian smears</strong>, the culmination of a relentless campaign of harassment by pro-Israel groups, outlets, and social media trolls, which <a href="https://www.jadaliyya.com/Details/38749" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">started</a> since my enrolment at SHU.
</div>

</div>
<div>Unfortunately, far from supporting me, <strong>SHU has joined in targeting me</strong>. I had barely delivered the introductory lecture when my department informed me on 20 January 2022 that <strong>my teaching was to be suspended</strong> “until further notice”, pending an investigation into external complaints by those who used the IHRA definition to protest my employment. SHU left me in the dark as to the nature of the complaints, except what it leaked to the press. <strong>I fought back, with my campaign #InSupportOfShahd</strong> attracting wide local and global solidarity and outrage at SHU’s mistreatment of its own employee. Two weeks later, supported by my University and College Union branch and the European Legal Support Centre (<a href="https://elsc.support/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ELSC</a> ), <strong>I </strong><a href="https://elsc.support/cases/a-palestinian-scholar-successfully-defeated-attempts-to-silence-her" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>defeated</strong></a> <strong> those smears, overcoming two investigations and successfully </strong><a href="https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/nora-barrows-friedman/palestinian-teacher-reinstated-after-uk-israel-lobby-attacks" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>returning</strong></a> <strong> to teaching</strong>.
</div>

</div>
<div>Three months later, however, <strong>my employer launched a third investigation, </strong>insisting on confidentiality. <strong>I was later cleared</strong>, but SHU had shown that I was not welcome, and I agreed to leave, hoping to join an anti-racist organisation on the right side of history.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>SHU then disclosed misleading information to the pro-Israel ‘Jewish Chronicle’</strong>, including details of the third investigation, conducted by barrister Akua Reindorf. Although SHU had already exonerated me as acting within my rights to free academic expression, their communications with the JC left the investigation outcome unknown. This instigated <strong>a further round of brutal smears</strong> in the media, intensifying the anti-Palestinian racism to which I am routinely subject.

<div>I shall now pursue legal action to hold SHU <strong>accountable for violating my employment rights</strong>, and ensure that the truth gets into the public domain and that legitimate anti-racist speech is protected on UK campuses.

<div><strong>As a Palestinian woman, I want to be able to articulate my story and political views without being harassed and subject to discrimination. But this is not just my lawsuit.</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>With this legal fight, we will make sure that no other individual faces persecution for their legitimate beliefs. We should all be able to engage in criticism of the apartheid state of Israel without risks of harassment or interference from our employers. This case will challenge systemic issues, including the oppressive IHRA definition, the rights of workers to fair treatment and organise in support of Palestine, while supporting academic freedom.

As a family, we are in complete shock and devasted at this huge loss.
