What they care about

Natasha A. Walker is an avid reader, world traveler, loving wife, proud mother, sister and joyful grandmother who brings imagination to every page she write.

At 58, I am rebuilding not just my life — but our voice as a family, even after losing my phone, my accounts, and my work to a hacker just last week. My name is Natasha A. Walker, and I have been married to my husband for 35 years as of July 14th. On September 11, 2022, everything changed when my husband, who has been a diabetic for over 20 years, was injured while working for the City of Chicago. He received workers’ compensation for the first seven months, but then it stopped unexpectedly. For over two and a half years, we have been fighting for what he is rightfully owed — with no income coming in on his side. With only my disability check to rely on, we lost our home and had to move in with our sons. Today, my husband sleeps on one couch, and I sleep on another. We are not asking for pity — we are simply trying to rebuild a life of dignity, strength, and hope after being knocked down more than once. One of the things that has kept us going is my passion for writing — something my husband has always supported and encouraged in me. Together, we are building a legacy for our family through a book series called The Shane Dakota Books, inspired by our first grandson, Kameron K. Walker, a precious 5-year-old young Black boy who deserves to know how special and powerful he is. While Shane Dakota is a fictional character, he was created to represent the strength, future, and potential we see in Kameron. This series is our shared legacy as husband and wife — born from love, built through struggle, and written with the hope that one day, Kameron will understand he comes from resilience, faith, and greatness. Writing this series has given us purpose in our hardest moments — it’s not just a project, it’s our heart, our hope, and our path forward as a family. But recently, we were hit with another setback. My phone was compromised, and I lost access to all my accounts, including my writing. I now have to rebuild everything — my access, my platforms, and my creative work — from the ground up. I’m not asking for luxury. I am simply asking for the essential tools needed to keep writing, healing, and finishing this legacy for our grandson. How your support will help: Replace my hacked phone so I can securely access accounts and protect my work Purchase a laptop or tablet to continue writing The Shane Dakota Series Help us maintain stability as we continue fighting for my husband’s workers’ compensation At 58, I still believe it’s not too late to rebuild. Not too late to finish something meaningful. Not too late to leave behind a legacy of strength and love for the next generation. ✨ “This series is more than a dream — it’s a legacy for a little boy who deserves to grow up believing he can do anything.” ✨ “I want him to hold these books one day and know they were built out of love, hope, and the strength to keep going.” Thank you for reading, supporting, and believing that even after the hardest chapters, the story can still go on. With gratitude, Natasha A. Walker
