<p>The city had it towed. <b>I love my Lil car </b>. I use it to get to meetings, get to my various service commitments, get groceries, and more recently, go get my 7-month-old great-granddaughter however, I have a modest income and I live with chronic pain.

At the age of five-years-old Aranda realized she was meant to be a woman, but did not yet have the vocabulary to express this sentiment as she was born into a male body. The first time she openly explained her feelings, she ended up retracting it, saying it was a joke, because her family treated it like one. This, unfortunately, was not the last time this happened. She resigned to living life as a gay male, because she thought that was her only option.<br /><br />For most people, the word “transgender” is a bit of a mystery. From our understanding, as Aranda’s close friends, being transgender simply means the role you are meant to play in this world is not the one you were originally ascribed at birth. Aranda was meant to be the woman she is today, not anyone else.<br /><br />Aranda has gone through lots of ups and downs to get to where she is today. As we write this, Aranda has been sober for almost four years. Her mental health has suffered as a result of her struggle with her gender: she’s struggled with depression, anxiety, gender dysphoria, and chemical dependency. When she was 20, Aranda realized her life was not headed in the direction she wanted it to, so she made the brave decision to get sober and hasn’t looked back since. At the same time, she began her transition.<br /><br />Medically transitioning is an incredibly expensive and strenuous process. At first, Aranda pursued surgery payment through insurance, with little luck. She hit a point at which she decided to take matters into her own hands. She’s worked countless jobs, often multiple at the same time, to afford facial feminization and breast augmentation surgeries. She’s done all this while being a full-time college student at Minneapolis College, but is soon transferring to the University of Minnesota, a much more intensive school. We see firsthand how hard Aranda works both at school and at her jobs; it’s incredibly taxing on her mental and physical health as well as her sobriety to be under this much strain. Aranda wishes she could pay for this last gender-confirming surgery, but the price is an overwhelming amount, and she needs your help to get there.<br /><br />A vaginoplasty is a final step in Aranda’s surgical transition. We know this last procedure will affect her entire outlook on life, allowing her to move forward as the woman she knows she is. Aranda has come so far already, and we want to help her get to the last step.<br /><br /><br />We have so much gratitude for anyone who’s read this far. He was brutally murdered given no rights that we are often promised we are given in this god forsaken country. He was a family man, loved by his folks and his friends. Only god knows the pain everyone is feeling today. Please donate and share, let’s do the little we can and try to lift what even may be the most minuscule of burdens for his family right now after losing their beloved son  and just take care of the funeral costs and help support them. <p>Let me preface this by saying that in the back of my mind I knew that if I ever started a fundraiser for one business, it would be Caffetto, my favorite coffeeshop on Earth. Only I thought that should this ever actually happen, it would be due to a new Starbucks being installed into one of those nearby condo buildings, an accidentally expired lease, or something less dire than a virus.<br /><br />What a crazy uncertain time we're experiencing now. It seems we all have to say goodbye to our old way of living just out of nowhere. I find myself feeling especially strong feelings of love to all the people in my life that i wonder if i took for granted, and to the parts of my old way of living that meant a lot to me. One of those parts of my life I am referring to is the loveliest coffeeshop I've ever been to. I call it The Happiest Place on Earth™. I have spent a New Year's Eve sobbing to Brent at the counter right at midnight about how my life was going all wrong, as though he were some sort of bartender. Another time, I walked in Caffetto to see two of my very best friends giddy because they had JUST got engaged. I spent every other night here in college "studying" for classes with my best friend Maria, only to just end up talking the whole time while Kenny played Tom Waits in the background. Weddings have happened here. A cat (memorialized in a painting on the wall) "lived" here. If I need a hug, I know I can always count on seeing David with his Sharpies and coat of signatures.<br /><br />I know I am not the only one who considers Caffetto a Minneapolis landmark that would be a huge loss should it go under. I understand we are about to lose a lot of businesses, and I know that once society returns back to normal, we all want to have some semblance of the life we knew before. I wanted to make this fundraiser as a way for others like me who are really concerned about the future of this staple of Minneapolis. A place oozing with character and with characters. <br /><br />Brent, the owner, is my good friend and one of the nicest people I know.The kind of person who buys all his employees a whole pie just because he had stopped at the best pie shop on his way back from a road trip. He was hoping to be able to keep paying his employees to help them through this time. This fundraiser would go to help that as well ensure that the business can stay going. I asked Brent where the money will go to, and he says to rent and utilities as needed. Support to Save Caffetto Coffee Shop from Closing

To everyone who may not yet have heard the news, we are deeply sorry to share that Nicky Berr has unexpectedly passed away on November 13th, 2019.  <br /><br />As you are all aware, Nicky was truly one of a kind. She had quite the sense of humor and a way of telling stories that would put a smile on any face near or far. That New Jersey accent always lent itself well to Nicky's dramatic and humorous personality. She was stubborn and loving which was just the perfect match for her passion- animals.  She and Emily have four of their own dogs, yet always wanted to take care of more.  At one point she had 12 dogs she was caring for and within a day she knew little quirks about each dog's personality and loved them all.  She had quite the soft spot for all furry friends. <br /><br /> As much as she loved animals, that didn't even come close to the love she shared with Emily.  These two beautiful people just celebrated their one year anniversary last month and, together were the best, most fun people to be around. Their love was deep, genuine and inspiring. What has happened is beyond comprehension and we are all still in shock. Understandably, Emily is trying her best to cope and  figure out the logistics of upcoming events and planning a celebration of life, so I am stepping in to organize a way to help with the financial burden that has now been placed on Emily.  Let's come together to support her the best we can financially so that she doesn't have additional stress during an excruciatingly painful time.<br /><br />We have had numerous emails, texts and messages from people asking how to help, so this campaign has been created as a way to keep everyone up-to-date with plans and also offer a place for messages and donations to be left.<br /><br />If you would like to donate, just click on the donate button. Hello, and welcome to The Haven - Lafayette’s gofundme page!  For those who don’t know what we are, we’re a community outreach ministry who’s focus is on helping others in what ever means we can!  We do our best to the meet the needs of each person that comes through our doors, and if for some reason we can’t, we try our best to refer them to the people who can. <br /><br />Here are some, but not all, of the services we provide.  <br /><br /> • Job searches<br /> • Obtaining picture ID’s and other needed documents to help someone move forward <br />• Community outreach projects: Winterizing homes, cleaning out gutters, helping to build handicapped ramps, a community garden and so much more<br /> • We provide hygiene items, socks, food and other basic needs to those that are in need<br /> • We offer addiction support, doing our best to provide a family to help others through their sobriety <br /> • We work on goal planning, and help with what we can so the individual can reach there goals<br /> • We try to help people find rehabs and shelters to those in need of one. <br /><br />This is just the tip of the iceberg!  However, we are a ministry that functions solely on donations.  This means we can only provide according to our funds.  And Id like to assure you that 100% of the monetary donations we receive go directly to our ministry!  We have no paid staff. <br /><br />As a a faith based ministry, we are here to follow God.  To get out in the field where it’s needed most.  While we are faith based, we don’t turn anyone away that isn’t.  We don’t “Force our beliefs” on them.  We just love them, the way Christ loves us.  And through that love, we do our best to lift them and walk beside them.  <br /><br />We we are a hand up, not a hand out.

Jordan Moorhead is an active 30-year old young man who is a real estate agent with Keller Williams Integrity in Roseville, MN, as well as an avid fitness buff/trainer, and in his free time he likes to volunteer helping people suffering from drug and alcohol problems.  In his normal life he stirs up a lot of dust!<br /><br />In search of warmer weather, Jordan had been planning a move to Austin, Texas, where the real estate market is hot and the weather generally warm year-round.  While Jordan was there attending a conference and to check out housing in the area October 26th, another driver turned right across his path on a city street leaving him nowhere to go other than to strike the other driver’s vehicle.  Since Jordan was on a motorcycle, he sustained significant injuries to his brain and a large part of his body. <br /><br />Jordan was brought to a level 1 trauma center at Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin after the accident. The exceptional medical team there discovered breaks within his left ulna, radius and humerus, right ulna and radius, right femur, two places in his jaw, and in the vertebra at the base of his skull.  He also had separation in his pelvis at three locations and other less severe injuries. Jordan is still being cared for at Dell Seton Medical Center and probably will be for some time before transfer to an in-patient rehab center for what’s anticipated to be a long stay.<br /><br />In just a few hours, Jordan’s life changed from that of being a happy, driven, energetic and committed individual who loves so many to a very badly-injured young man who faces a long road back to a normal life and staggering (mounting) medical bills.  Like so many young people in seemingly perfect health, Jordan had not made a decision to purchase health insurance and never needed to see a doctor, much less find himself in a hospital facing months of expensive rehab, until now.<br /><br />Jordan’s expenses are expected to run well into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. He probably won’t be able to work or return back to earning income from his real estate sales business for a number of unknown months.  In other words, he has quickly transitioned from a very productive and self-sufficient existence to one of sincere need of assistance.<br /><br />He is an accomplished and well-loved young man and professional, often leading our market center in sales.  He, unfortunately, has endured substantial injuries in this accident which translate to ever-growing medical bills without health coverage. The greater KW family is being asked to help Jordan right now with some of the MANY medical bills that are already adding up. Civil War in the 1980's led to the collapse of the government of Somalia in 1991.  Abdi and his family fled to America to escape the violence and anarchy that ensued.  Abdulkadir Shanf Mohamed Abdi, or "Abdi" to his friends has been in America for over 20 years.  <br /><br />Today, Abdi is a leader in the recovery community and he helps other men find their way into recovery.   He recently met the love of his life and they were married in rooftop ceremony in May.  <br /><br />On Tuesday, January 30th, at a regular immigration check in, Abdi was arrested and detained.  He has been moved to a federal holding facility.  Deportation proceedings will begin soon.  <br /><br />Please help us keep Abdi with his family and in this country.   Abdi is a good man, a devoted husband, a supportive friend and an important asset to the Minneapolis community.<br /><br />This page has been created by caring friends who want to help Abdi and his family through this difficult period.<br /><br />The majority of money raised will be used to pay for legal fees.  Abdi was gainfully employed in the recovery community and his spouse will need help paying living expenses while he is detained.
