<div>“Health is the most important aspect of our daily lives. When you’re faced with sudden, unexpected issues that COMPLETELY disrupt and end your ability to work, care for your child and function normally on a daily basis…you have a very real and terrifying wake up call. On July 21, 2016 Monica’s life forever changed. On that fateful day, what seemed to be a routine ER trip for kidney stones began a ten year fight for her very life. After initial testing, it was revealed that Monica had suffered SEVERE carbon monoxide poisoning from her place of employment. This diagnosis opened a Pandora ’s Box of medical complications, setting off a chain of events that would permanently affect her health and livelihood. Monica’s body was completely failing.

<div>Her bones were weakened resulting in two broken hips, double knee replacements and softening of her jaw structure causing extreme tooth loss. Internally she was suffering from severe anemia, blood and kidney issues, neurologic and heart complications along with multiple organ systems being affected. Her health crumbled, and her ability to support her precious daughter Sophia was compromised.

<div>In nine years’ time, Monica has required 72 surgeries to correct the havoc that was unleashed on her body. Her road to recovery has been long and daunting.

<div>Along with bone reconstruction, she has endured a litany of procedures including: three kidney surgeries, multiple spinal procedures, double knee replacements, double hip pinning, a complete hysterectomy, several intestinal torsion repair, a ventral hernia repair and EIGHT hiatal hernia repairs...etc. The last of which occurred in December of 2022. During this procedure Monica suffered complications due to staff negligence which had left her unable to eat or drink water. Her weight plummeted to a dangerous 72 lbs. and she was placed on lifesaving TPN/Feeding through a PICC line in her arm. Currently, Monica has been on life sustaining feedings for almost 4 years and is now facing her 72nd surgery with a specialist who can HOPEFULLY correct the intestinal damage and bring back her ability to eat and function normally again.
