Reimer and Karl Carstens, long-time neighbors in the Brookdale neighborhood of Chevy Chase, experienced an unimaginable tragedy when an early morning house fire broke out on April 3, 2026. In the chaos, Reimer’s daughter Karen lost her life after bravely returning inside to save her cat. Thankfully, Reimer’s son Karl was able to safely escape from the fire. The loss has left the family devastated, and their home and belongings were destroyed in the fire.
<br>
<br>
 Reimer has been living at an assisted living facility nearby, which has provided some support during this difficult time. Now, Reimer and Karl Carstens are facing the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from scratch. They urgently need support for temporary housing, replacing essential items, and covering funeral expenses for Karen. The emotional and financial toll is overwhelming, and every bit of help can make a real difference as they navigate this difficult time. Friends, neighbors, and community members are rallying around them, but the need is great and ongoing. Your support will help them find stability and comfort as they begin to recover.

 Any contribution will be deeply appreciated by the family during this extremely difficult time. Your kindness and generosity will help Reimer and Karl Carstens find hope and stability as they begin to recover from this heartbreaking loss.

<div>Help Bring Shangri-La-La to New York - Shangri-La-La is a fast, funny comedy musical about two immigrants who reinvented themselves, transformed Las Vegas, and built a rhinestone empire of magic, ambition, and white tigers.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Inspired by true events, the show explores the making of Siegfried &amp; Roy’s legendary public image—and the machinery of spectacle, power, loyalty, and illusion behind the spotlight. The full-length version also draws in part on a real-life lawsuit, using courtroom satire to examine what happens when private conflict collides with celebrity mythology.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Following an April 2026 New York presentation through Back Door to Broadway, the musical is now moving toward its next New York appearances:
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Rogue Theater Festival, Digital Edition — July 2026
</div>
<div>Midtown International Theatre Festival — July 25 and 26, 2026
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>These performances are an important opportunity to introduce Shangri-La-La to New York theatergoers, producers, industry professionals, and supporters who can help the show move toward a longer run.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>But producing independent theater in New York is expensive.

<div>Support for the cast, crew, musicians, writers, and creative team

</div>
<div>As the composer, co-writer, and director, I have invested years of work and substantial personal resources in this production. Now we need your help to give Shangri-La-La its strongest possible New York presentation.
</div>

</div>
<div>Please donate today. Every contribution—large or small—helps bring the music, comedy, white tigers, and Las Vegas spectacle to the stage.

<div>This campaign supports the entire Shangri-La-La production and the many people working behind the scenes to bring it to life. Your generosity will help us reach new audiences, attract future producers, and give the musical the opportunity to grow beyond its festival performances.
