Reimer and Karl Carstens, long-time neighbors in the Brookdale neighborhood of Chevy Chase, experienced an unimaginable tragedy when an early morning house fire broke out on April 3, 2026. In the chaos, Reimer’s daughter Karen lost her life after bravely returning inside to save her cat. Thankfully, Reimer’s son Karl was able to safely escape from the fire. The loss has left the family devastated, and their home and belongings were destroyed in the fire.

 Reimer has been living at an assisted living facility nearby, which has provided some support during this difficult time. Now, Reimer and Karl Carstens are facing the daunting task of rebuilding their lives from scratch. They urgently need support for temporary housing, replacing essential items, and covering funeral expenses for Karen. The emotional and financial toll is overwhelming, and every bit of help can make a real difference as they navigate this difficult time. Friends, neighbors, and community members are rallying around them, but the need is great and ongoing. Your support will help them find stability and comfort as they begin to recover.
