By Eck! I never expected the donations to continue at this level after I’d done the ride but I’m mightily impressed that they are. Thanks to a fantastic donation from the Bridlington Lions Club I have just blown my latest goal right out of the water, so with about a couple of weeks to go before my GoFundMe page Fundraiser by Mike Kirby : Help raise funds for the Tour de 4 2026 & Prostate Cancer UK closes I’ve decided to set my sights on what I originally considered an unattainable goal, at least £3,000 My experience of the ride was phenomenal and the level of support out of this world, crowds clapping/cheering/cow bells, horns galore & even a donkey in a summer hat at a village BBQ, incredible. The ride day began with a very wet 2 mile walk with the bike from our little Airbnb to the start area, then an interviewed with BBC Breakfast’s John Maguire plus Prostate Cancer UK & the GoFundMe team as my bike had generated a great deal of media interest (not many bikes being homemade I guess) then it was time to make my way to the start line for my slot at 10am. The varied/undulating 38 miles seemed to fly by and whilst one or two of the steeper hills saw me having to get off and push, for the most part I averaged 8-9MPH taking just under 5 hours including 2 feed station stops and lending a helping hand to 2 ladies who’d suffered a puncture, before returning to the finish line at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. Heartfelt thanks to my ‘trainer’ at East Riding Leisure Gym (Nick) all those focused exercises and exhausting afternoon sessions were repaid in spades, the experience has been truly life changing for me and I hope in some way makes a small difference to many others in far greater need than myself. Speaking of need, if you would like to add a small amount to my total please don’t be shy, there’s not long to go and every pound really does make a difference. It would be fantastic to end this incredible journey in the most positive of ways, once again a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has been a part of it.
