</div>

<div>As Mom grows older and weaker, she requires more assistance in her day-to-day routine. Simple tasks are more challenging and sometimes impossible for her to perform on her own. Several of the children she has raised have pooled our resources and time as best we can to assist her but more help is needed. This is where her extended family and other loved ones come in.

<div>We want to have a part-time caregiver to come in for about 3 days a week to provide care, companionship, and some relief for the family's efforts.

</div>

<div>And the average cost is about $200 per day which means it will take a village including hopefully your help to realize our goal.

<div>At 97 years old, my mother, Olivia Wells, embodies a life marked by resilience, dedication, and compassion. Growing up in rural Mississippi, she and my father overcame poverty and adversity, ultimately raising eight children with grace and determination. Olivia's unwavering commitment to family and community has defined her existence. Throughout her life, she has remained steadfast in her focus on family and community, always prioritizing the well-being of others above her own. She worked tirelessly in various roles both personally and professionally, including 30 years of service at the Veterans Administration Hospital, providing care and support to those in need.

<div>Now, in her later years, Olivia's wish is simple: to remain at home, surrounded by loved ones. However, the rising costs of in-home care pose a challenge. Her retirement benefits cover basic needs, but not the essential assistance required for daily living and the much-needed in-home care and assistance. Our family has pooled resources and time to attempt to provide the best care possible, but it's proven to be physically and financially unsustainable on our own.

<div>Olivia's legacy of caregiving extends well beyond her own family. From the age of nine, she cared for her five younger siblings while her mother worked, setting the stage for a lifetime of selflessness. After the tragic murder of Emmett Till, she and my father were determined to escape the poverty and degradation of their upbringing and create a better life in the North. They purposefully lifted their family out of hardship while also supporting other relatives by sending money and resources back home and by welcoming some into their new home to allow them to prosper and flourish as well. Over the years, she extended this nurturing spirit to countless nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and even strangers in her community.

<div>She has always been a woman of pride, honor, and respect. She navigated the raising of 8 children off of a meager salary but always held her head high with dignity. Even through her own adversity, she has always had a soft spot in her heart for children whether they were her own or someone else's. Olivia's generosity has never wavered. She has always been there for others, willing to provide shelter, clothing, transportation, meals, or just a safe space for anyone in need of a helping hand.

<div>As her family, we are now turning to friends and loved ones to help sustain Olivia's wish to age gracefully at home. We seek support to cover the costs of essential care and assistance, allowing Olivia to receive the comfort and dignity she so richly deserves. Olivia Wells has spent her life caring for others; it is time we reciprocate that care and ensure she receives the support she needs in her golden years.

<p>I started a woodworking business and while trimming a 2x4 the table saw got away from me and stuck on a knot in the wood and it missed me at first but when I drew back my hand the 2x4 knocked my hand across the blade.
</p>

<p>Currently I have hand surgery scheduled and the surgeon needs to reattach the tendons that connect to my middle finger and thumb. <strong><em>Without this surgery I will most likely lose the use of my right hand (I am right handed) forever. I need the surgery soon because if it is not handled quickly the hand will set as it is and I will lose the effective use of it permanently. </em></strong>The cost of the surgery is<strong> $4676.54.</strong>

<p>Like many I lost my job during the pandemic and have been struggling to make ends meet, I started the woodworking business and have done well, please pray for me that I am able to receive the funds needed for the surgery in order to make a full recovery.

We had no idea we had such an amazing support system! We surpassed both of our goals in less than 48 hours! Since we see that people are still willing to donate, and we have begun to find out that Nafiah’s current and future medical expenses will be astronomical, we have reset our goal to the lowest possible, $1. We are setting this goal because we cannot bring ourselves to put the true amount of her expenses as it feels too much to ask of our community who has already done so much. All we continue to ask is that you keep Nafiah in your prayers and share with as many people as possible!!!</span><span> <br /></span></i><br />Original story: <br /><br />Our neighbor and good friend Nafiah is a 21 year old college student at Hofstra University. She is a Sewanhaka High School/New Hyde Park High School alum. We are telling her story with her permission. On the night of March 17th as Nafiah and her mom were walking inside from their car, an unknown person ran up to Nafiah and threw acid in her face. <br /><br />The unknown attacker knew how dangerous the acid was as they were seen on camera wearing gloves. The attacker used a dark brown acid known to cause blindness and severe burning. Had the acid gotten into Nafiah's lungs she would have died. When Nafiah screamed it caused the acid to go into her mouth, burning her tongue and throat, which prevented her from breathing. When Nafiah ran into her house and her parents saw her, they immediately tried to help her, but in the process the acid burned their hands and forearms as well.  If her parents were not home to help her and call 911 right away she would not have made it. <br /><br />The acid caused severe burning on Nafiah's face, eyes, chest, and arms. Nafiah was wearing contact lenses that night and the acid melted the contact lenses onto her eyes. We don’t know if Nafiah will ever regain vision again. <br /><br />The goal amount has been set by taking into consideration the several different expenses that this family has and will continue to incur due to this attack. Your donation will pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance, home security, legal fees, and loss of income as Nafiah and her mother are out of work during this time. <br /><br />The photos attached of Nafiah's eye and wrists give only a glimpse into the extent of injuries she has sustained to her face, chest, eyes, and throat. <br /><br />Nafiah has stayed incredibly strong throughout this horrific event. Nafiah's only wish is that the attacker is caught so that she can feel safe in her own home. <br /><br />Please share this with as many people as you can.
