What they care about

My passion is for the Santa Barbara art community and to access to affordable studios and housing. Here in SB it has always been challenging to find either.

To everybody in my life, including my kids and my friends and my colleagues and my associates and my champions and my Sol sisters, I just wanna let all of you know that from the bottom of my heart I wanna thank you so much for helping me get back on my feet. It has meant so much to me to know that I have a community here that cares and I am humbled beyond belief and also very proud to be friends with all of you! You are amazing people every single one of you and I am not gonna let this go lightly has changed my life that is giving me new purpose and I wanted to let you know I won’t let any of you down. I want to shine like a star and I wanna hear from all of you and see all of you. Please reach out to me when you can I am attempting to walk Moore and get my steps in as it were, but I wanted to just give you guys a shout out and a thank you and a hopeful message of how well I’m healing special shout out to Paul Freedom who Massage the way a lot of the pain from my shoulder, which was kind of crushed from the fall and also special shout out to my friend Angel, and all of my angels out there I couldn’t do it without Ray and I couldn’t do it without my mom and dad. I am a lucky guy and I am realizing that and I’m appreciating it so much. You make my heart swell and I am learning to be more intentional and slow down and not fall off of 15 foot roofs in the middle of the night because it was so hot and I was praying and crying about my kids and my ex-wife and my situation with my housing and I stepped off and nothing. I know it said a ladder, but I just wanted to clarify it was hard to express what happened. It all happened so fast and at the same time so slow I fell on slow motion and I just told myself to go limp and kinda knock myself out when I hit the ground. It was 100° in the ADU in the back and 79° outside and it was August 21 and all the planets were in a line. It was amazing crying and praying and meditating and sleeping pills. That’s a bad combination. I even told myself before I fell, I need to get off this roof before I hurt myself and that’s when I just stepped off into nothing isn’t that the Brown that’s not the ground the ground coming. Then I thought I landed on a tree, but that was just my femur sorry about that. Horrible descriptive writing. If you read this far, I’m sorry. Anyhow, I’ve learned my lesson and I am being very intentional about each inch every step I take every breath I make I am really concentrating on healing and it’s working and I’m seeing the Slow but almost regenerative properties that happened overnight. It’s incredible. Anyway, this is a very long update and I’m rambling, but I just wanted to catch everybody up on where I’m at and I think I’m in a good place and a special special special special shout out to Marc Gardener and Zach Rosen all the people that are putting up with me and putting me up and helping me out. I don’t know what I would do without you people in my life. Thank you so much plus an extra special thank you to Mr. Alan Macey who always is the amazing ringleader of so many awesome projects and collector of cool people that is for sure. Anyway, Leon Olsen and Elizabeth Olsen. I love you guys too. You really are there for me and it means a lot to me. I’m gonna pull through and I’m gonna do better thank you so much for everything you’ve done and hey when I’m back on my feet, you know me I’ll help you anytime you need me. I am there for you. Peace. Enjoy this lovely time we have. I’m trying to make a difference. I’m gonna try to make a difference, that’s for sure feel like I got a second chance and I really needed that. Love you guys.❤️
Hello beautiful people! I’m currently back at my temporary place and the weather has been cooperative and I’ve been comfortable and able to shower and exercise getting more mobility daily. Special thanks to Mark Goerner for putting me up and putting up with me! He’s allowed me to utilize his ADU in the backyard of his place on Union Avenue. Feel free to reach out to me. I love taking visitors and seeing people. It’s been very motivating and also making me very grateful for my community for all of your outpouring of help and support. Please excuse my current state as I am on pain meds, and pain management for this broken leg, but I’ve been slowly tapering off, and I’ve stopped taking any opioids and feeling much more clearheaded each day. Thank you very much again for all those that have stopped by and given me your words of encouragemeent. I dam dealing with a concussion and experiencing some damage to my speech. I love you all thank you for the mind of my heart.♥️
Good evening friends and family. I am being discharged from the cottage rehabilitation center tomorrow morning Tuesday the 15th and will be at my temporary residence on the east side at the corner of Union and Querntina St. around noon. I’m full of antici-pointment and pure fear about having to be on my own in a storage container without windows and a few frightening stairs that will hinder me from both coming or going. This is both challenging and overwhelming since I’m unable to drive my car for better the part of two months while my femur heals. If you have time to perhaps visit or drop off food, like a lunch or a coffee and a simple breakfast, that would be most helpful! Thank you to those that have offered rides to the doctors appointments I have later this week. I’ll be alright, I’m just not at all excited to leave this wonderful facility where I’ve have 24/7 help from occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists and psychologists and case workers. I feel very fortunate to have been here and would like to thank everyone that works here including the nurses and their assistances whom many drive long distances to work both the day and night shifts. I will survive this and I will be alright as I continue to be very intentional about my limitations and my ability to maneuver through my daily life. I am careful not to fall again or damage the currently weak, hip and femur where breakage at this point is very delicate and possible with one false move. I’ve already dealing with a head injury, a concussion from the fall and also have this information of currently having two strokes where I’m trying to limit my stress, which seems to be also overwhelming at the moment. Thank you for those out there listening to this and reading this message and willing to help me even further than you already have. It means them world to me and it is also very difficult for me to ask for help because I’m so independent normally and usually in a position to help others. I realize I am no help to anyone right now and I’m the one asking for assistance at this difficult time in my life. Thank you and look forward to hearing from those that are available even just for revisit. I look forward to seeing and talking with you! Much Love Mr. Long. ❤️‍
Good morning! I am getting ready to be discharged from Cottage Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday the 15th in the morning and will be at my temporary home on the lower east side of town. I have had an official home visit with my occupational therapist and practiced walking through my place with my modified walker and was checked off on safety precautions to prevent further injuries. I recently had an incident at the rehabilitation facility and spent a night at the ER for fear I was experiencing a stroke. It turned out that the MRI imaging detected that I had experienced two strokes recently and I’m waiting to speak to a neurologist in the coming week to discuss my current condition. This helps to explain current brain fog and my physical condition with daily life. I am unable to drive with damage to my right leg and will require assistance to do doctor appointments and basic grocery shopping, so if anyone happens to be able to help me please contact me at (805) [phone redacted], this will be appreciated greatly and I’m happy to help with gas and your time. I’d like to thank all those who have donated to my cause, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the amazing community of friends and family I have. My challenges with financial logistics have just begun once I am released to the wild figuring out how I will get by without regular income for the next couple months of will have just begun. But I’m feeling more confident that the finish line will be here in just a few months. Thank you again, and I want you to know that you are all in my heart and have encouraged me and have inspired me to stay positive that I will get through this with a good attitude and positive energy, to overcome this struggle because of support and love from people like you. ♥️
Just saying hi to my colleagues and community. I’m humbled and appreciative of all your donations and support during this time. I have good news and bad news. Basically my good news is that my ankle that I broke is healing properly and hopefully I’ll be able to put weight on it in the next week with a boot, still need an aid from a walker. The last bit of news I got was not so good. My femur is taking longer to heal and expected, and I’ll probably be like this for a few months. Anything you can do to help me at this time is great. I will be out of work for quite some time and I am in the process of trying to find a new place to live so if there’s a bedroom or an ADU out there that you know of, please let me know. Love you all thank you so much.
I wanted to update my colleagues and community in the Art world here in Santa Barbara and again I am grateful and humbled by your support. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everyone’s contributions. I’m looking forward to walking again and I’m getting closer and closer every day. I can get out of bed and I can make it to my wheelchair. I can also walk several yards with the aid of my walker and Lake scoop since with the broken ankle, I’m not allowed to put any weight-bearing on it, but I can on my knee. My femur is healing quickly, and I am stretching and exercising and losing ultrasound to wake up my leg. I took the wheelchair outside today and attempted to navigate the uneven ground of the sidewalks which was definitely daunting, and my heart goes out to people who rely on their wheelchairs and their crutches, and their walkers to get to their destinations. It’ll be a couple months more of this and showers and cooking and daily life will be very big hurdle, but I’m prepared to take on those challenges now that I am learning more and more shortcuts, tricks and tools which help me get through my daily life. Your contributions are going to enable me too find new housing that’s more ADA accessible and I will be more careful with diligent intention on not harming myself while getting around. What a lovely crew and team of nurses, doctors and therapist! Cottage rehabilitation center is really a godsend and I don’t know what I would do without these people. I’ll continue to give you some updates, but I just wanted to again thank everybody for their help. I’m very glad to be from Santa Barbara and very happy to know you all and I feel well taken care of and I am not as overwhelmed as I was two weeks ago! Thank you all again, with much love, Mr. Long.
First off, I’d like to thank all of you and your generosity and support during this difficult time for me. It means a lot that my friends and community have all contributed to my journey through my most difficult challenge I have ever faced. Thank you all. I’m humbled and grateful by your support. So far I’ve managed to make it through the first and hardest part of physical therapy and I’m fighting through the fatigue and pain that comes with learning to walk again with the aid of my walker and a leg support. Yesterday I made it about 200yds. I’m confident I’ll heal from my broken femur and broken ankle in few weeks. If any locals in SB would care to come by Cottage Rehabilitation Center on De La Vina for a visit, Sundays are best because there is no Physical Therapy for the day, and I won’t be worn out . I’ll be here for the next 2.5 weeks diligently working to regain my mobility and strength to maneuver through my daily life. Keep me in your thoughts and know I’m always there for you in your times of need. I love you all and thank you again for helping me through this. Sincerely, Mr. Long! ♥️♿️
