There are moments in life that show you exactly who a person is. One day, while walking into 7-Eleven, Stephanie saw a couple at the counter trying to pay for gas and food for their family. They were short on money, embarrassed, and struggling. Without hesitation, Stephanie pulled out her own debit card and paid their bill. She didn’t do it for attention. She did it because that’s the kind of person she is, always helping others, even when she had little herself. And this wasn’t a one-time thing. Stephanie has helped many people like this over the years, giving what she could, covering for others, showing kindness when no one else would. Now, she is the one in need. After 8 years of loyal service at 7-Eleven, riding her bicycle to and from work in the rain, the cold, and late at night, always showing up on time, covering shifts when others called out, and never missing work, Stephanie got sick with pneumonia. Even while sick, she kept going because she was afraid to call in. The first time she had to call in sick was because she had been admitted to the hospital. After that call, they told her they no longer needed her services. She was fired. Now Stephanie has been out of work for five weeks, struggling to pay rent, buy food, and keep her life together. This is where we come in. As Americans, as neighbors, and as decent human beings, it’s time for us to help someone who has spent years helping everyone else.
