Broke but not Broken : A New Year, A Chance to Stand Again
I am starting this GoFundMe as a fresh beginning for the new year—not because I want to give up, but because I am still trying to stand on my own two feet.
Right now, the biggest barrier between me and stability is something many people take for granted: a car.
Without a car, I cannot work consistently. Many of the jobs available to me—housekeeping, delivery work, and other flexible work I am physically able to do—require reliable transportation. I want to earn my own income, but without a vehicle, opportunities are out of reach before I can even begin.
A car would not be a luxury for me. It would be the difference between surviving and rebuilding.
Why I Need Help Right Now
Over the past year, I have been doing everything I can to hold on while facing multiple challenges at once.
I live with chronic health issues that require ongoing care. I need a daily inhaler to breathe properly, regular doctor visits, and medical attention for numbness in my left foot, which has begun to interfere with daily movement. I also experience high blood pressure and stress-related bleeding ulcers—conditions made worse by prolonged uncertainty, lack of work, and fear of losing stability.
Transportation is essential for all of this. Without a car, getting to medical appointments, pharmacies, and follow-ups becomes a constant struggle.
Caring for My Cat, Ginger
I am also responsible for my cat, Ginger, who is not just a pet—she is my emotional support and constant companion. She depends on me entirely for food, safety, and veterinary care. Ginger needs to be seen by a vet to make sure she stays healthy, and I want to continue giving her the care she deserves.
She has been with me through loneliness, illness, and nights where hope felt thin. I refuse to abandon her simply because life has been hard.
Housing and Stability
Beyond medical needs and work, I am trying to secure something even more basic: a safe, stable place to live.
Having a home would allow me to rest, heal, and rebuild with dignity. It would give me a foundation from which I can work, manage my health, and stop living in survival mode every single day.
How Donations Will Be Used
Every dollar raised will go directly toward rebuilding stability:
• A reliable used car so I can work and attend medical appointments
• Medical care, including inhalers, doctor visits, and tests
• Veterinary care and supplies for Ginger
• Housing and basic living expenses while I work toward independence
• Transportation costs until I can secure steady income
I am not asking for a handout—I am asking for a chance.
Why This Matters
I have not stopped trying. Even when I felt alone, I did not give up on life or faith. I believe that standing on my own feet sometimes begins with accepting help when it is needed most.
Your support—whether through a donation, a share, or a kind word—means more than money. It means hope, movement, and the possibility of a future where I can care for myself and my cat without fear.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of this new beginning.
With gratitude,
Melissa and Ginger
