MegScott Franklin

Hello! My name is MegScott Franklin and I graduated from Appalachian State University in May 2025. I majored in Anthropology, with a concentration in Primatology and minor in Biology. Primate conservation is my passion and my dreams are coming true; I’m going to be volunteering at the Amazon shelter in Tambopata, Peru August 2026! This shelter specializes in the rehabilitation and release of many amazonian species, a lot of which are monkeys, and I cannot wait for this awesome opportunity! As you can imagine, primate conservation isn’t the most lucrative career path, and to get my foot in the door and put this awesome experience on my resume, I have incurred a few costs that are unavoidable with international travel and safe accommodations for a month in Peru. This volunteer position is unpaid and I will be covering all travel expenses myself. I have been working as a server at Mellow Mushroom post graduation to save up money for my future travels, but have not been able to save up as much as I would have liked, in paying back student loans + monthly rent/bills. If anyone feels so inclined to help me out in my international volunteering journey, I set up this gofundme to help cover traveling expenses. Thank you for your time and consideration! for more info on the volunteer program: https://amazonshelter.org
