<div>Every year, thousands of California students receive college acceptance letters—their ticket to a better future. But for low-income families, the <strong>$500-$800 </strong>cost of dorm essentials (bedding, towels, school supplies) can derail that dream before it even begins.

<div>I'm Claudine, and together with my spouse and sister, we run a small grassroots charity here in Los Angeles. We're not a big nonprofit—we're just four people who saw a need and decided to do something about it.

<div>Last year, we helped 2 college freshmen with $540 in donations. We bought them everything they needed to move into their dorms: twin XL bedding, bath towels, shower caddy, laundry baskets,

<div>shower shoes, and other essentials. Both students wrote to us saying they could focus on studying instead of worrying about basics. That experience changed us. We realized how much impact $260 could make in a young person's life.

<div>The average dorm room essentials cost <strong>$500-800</strong>. For families already stretching every dollar to cover tuition, fees, and textbooks, there's simply nothing left for bedding, towels, or study supplies. Many students:

<div>- Share towels or use old t-shirts
</div>
<div>- Skip buying desk lamps and study supplies

<div>- Feel ashamed arriving to college "unprepared"

<div>We've created a proven model to provide complete dorm room essentials for $260 per student:

<div>We select students through a merit-based essay application. Each applicant writes 200 words on: "How will receiving the essentials for your dorm room help you transition to college and/or ease

<div>the financial burden of college?"

<div><strong>Our priorities are: </strong>

<div>- First-generation college students
</div>
<div>- Students from low to mid-income families
</div>
<div>-Those attending residential programs across California
</div>
<div>- Commitment to academic success

<div>We need to raise this money by May 1, 2025 so students have their essentials before fall semester move-in.

<div>- May 25 - June 1: Purchase supplies (we shop at Target, Walmart, Amazon, and Kohl's for the best prices)

<div>- July 5 - August: Deliver essentials to students

<div>- August/Sept: Students move into dorms with everything they need

<div>Hi, my name is Jenny, incoming college freshman with a deep passion for chemistry and medicine. I have been fortunate enough to be accepted into incredible schools that is mostly in the top 10 of the nation, pursuing a bio chemistry major on the pre-med track. However, while this should be an exciting time in my life, <strong>my family’s financial struggles are making it difficult for me to afford my dream education.</strong>

<div>My parents have been divorced since I was little, and I currently live with my dad while my mom resides in South Korea. Recently, my world turned upside down when <strong>my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer.</strong> The news has been devastating, not only emotionally but financially. She is undergoing treatments and is unable to support my education, as her priority is fighting for her health.

<div>On the other hand, my dad is already carrying a heavy financial burden. Much of his income goes toward paying off loans and covering medical expenses for my grandfather, leaving little room to support my college tuition. To help ease the strain, I work over 30 hours a week at a Korean BBQ restaurant, Dinning hall, Tiktok---  while maintaining a high GPA, ranking in the top 10% of my class, and participating in multiple extracurricular activities.

<div>Since I was young, my dream has always been to go to college, something my mom and I talked about often. Even though I knew out of state schools would be expensive, I applied because I wanted to challenge myself and pursue the best education possible and since it was the schools that me and my mom always talked about since I was young. but Now, with my mom’s condition worsening, <strong>I want to make her proud by graduating from a great university and building a future that gives her hope.</strong>

I want to dedicate my career to finding better treatments and possibly even a cure, not just for my mom but for countless others facing the same battle.
