<div>I am Ameen Alfarra. I live in khan younis, Gaza and I study engineering at Al Azhar university in Gaza. I am 20 years old yet I have no way to continue my education due to the insane bombardment of Gaza by the Israeli army. The IDF completely destroyed my family’s home and burned it to ashes. It took us 15 years to save and build our home bit by bit. We’ve been running from place to place after losing every pathway to existence including food, water, and shelter.

Lana has recently been awarded a trip to Morgan’s Camp, an inclusive family summer camp - through the nonprofit pediatric pain warriors program! We’ve applied for a scholarship to help pay for financial assistance for a flight &amp; rental car - but we’ve not yet heard if we qualified, and we’ve had a lot of teachers, neighbors and loved ones in her life asking how they can support her and our family, as we adjust to our new normal of injections, infusions and other medical care she’s recently taken on. If we are awarded the scholarship, we would be reimbursed after the trip, and we would use the money raised for more experiences for Lana, as well as medical bills and care. These types of family experiences mean SO MUCH, Ethan, myself and Marley will be there with her, as we enjoy horseback riding, archery and all the fun that comes along with summer camp!

Travel Expenses for Lana’s trip to Morgan’s Camp

<div>My name is Marilyn. This fundraiser is to raise funds to enable my twin young adult children to travel a specialized college and jobs fair on the 20th-25th of March, in Boston. There is a unique convention being held, which will have many colleges that specialize in kids on the spectrum, as well as employers who hire people on the spectrum. We've made all the arrangements to attend, but due to a serious unexpected expense, our cash flow went backwards this month and I no longer have the liquid funds. The convention only happens once a year, they really can't wait another year for this opportunity. (Plus it's actually over their "golden" birthday- turning 23 on the 23rd!)

<div>They're good kids, kind, intelligent, creative-and a bit quirky, as AuDHD people tend to be.  They also have a laundry list of other co-morbidities. They've fallen through the cracks their entire lives. Too autistic for this, not autistic enough for that. They were approved for state autism services... in 2014. But there's a waitlist. Ten years later, they're STILL on the waitlist. I wish i was exaggerating.  I am not. They feel like they've been warehoused by society. I was hopeful this convention would at least open some doors for them. They need friends,  so,  jobs,  lives.

<div>Because of falling through the cracks, and still being waitlisted, every service, doctor, therapy, hospital, etc has come out of our pockets. As preemie newborns, they needed cranial bands for congenital positional plagiocephily. The bands were not covered by insurance, and had to be remade every 2 months. They cost $2500 per band. We went through 11 of them. $27,000. And life has been like that ever since. They both needed special Eyewear with prisms at age 3 (still both in glasses). Orthotic shoes. Medications. Specialists. NeuroPsych exams (AuADHD, major depressive disorder,  major anxiety disorder,  PMDD, PTSD, insomnia,  Tourettes Syndrom, torticollis, pigeon toe, as well as the "usual" things,  like a ruptured appendix after the hospital misdiagnosed,  covid stomping out their youth years. Auditory processing (SPD). It's a very long list.

<div> We have stood on our heads to get them what they needed. And we'd do it again- they're great kids. But it's pretty much wiped us out, savings wise. All we have left is our ramshackle house (which needs so much major work I get ill thinking about it) and our 13 year old cars. I don't drive a lot (I've had 14 surgeries since 2014, I am disabled and cannot work) so my car is fairly ok, when I'm well enough to drive,  restricted to daylight. Hubs works insane hours but only earns so much. We put away for a rainy day, we just never expected a multiple decades monsoon. Hubs car now needs major work, which we can't afford- but he also needs to get to work.  And he can't take my car,  because I'm then trapped 6 days a week. One of my kids did get their driver's license, but needs a car to go to school and work- right now,  he borrows mine but it's not a feasible long term solution. He's in the need a car to get a job,  need a job to buy a car loop. We always intended to help him- again,  the virtual monsoon has wiped us out. I have so much guilt and grief over that.

<div>To top the week off, we just found out our mortgage shot up $300/month starting this month due the town reassessment (we challenged ours twice, because the assessed value is ludicrous. We lost both times). I've already been pinching pennies till they scream. One kids only pair of sneakers just broke (after 3 years) and because they both have feet issues, they need decent well fitted ones. They don't care about brands, but cheap Walmart sneakers just don't provide the necessary support. They also both need new eyeglasses and dental exams- last year thru a snafu they were dropped from our eye/dental plan, and while they were eventually reinstated, it took 6 months and $20,000 worth of updated neuro psych exams. And they weren't reactivated until Jan 1, 2024- was supposed to be retroactive but still hasn't been code properly,  so i'm still paying down a large dental bill that should have been covered . I buy our glasses at Costco, they're way more affordable than anywhere else, but when you have 4 glasses wearers in the family, it all still adds up to over $1000 fast.

<div>So between medical needs and falling thru the crack expenses, it's been getting tougher and tighter every passing year. We're one major appliance failure from a collapse. Groceries are an easy $1000 a month, even using coupon , sales &amp; warehouse clubs (I'm the queen of buying on sale and i cook 99/100 meals when I'm physically able,  ie not immediately post op) . We also have some food allergies involved, which also increases food expenses. Prescriptions run around $500-$600 a month after insurance. I'm still in recovery from my last surgery (12-18m recovery), so I also have PT copay expenses 3x a week. Therapies for everyone are another $500 a month. Then the usual gas, heat, water, sewer, taxes (property&amp;car, federal&amp; state), co-pays, etc. We seem to hemorrhage emergencies. I wish I was exaggerating, but as anyone who knows us will tell you, I'm very much not. No matter how much I try to pare to the bone, a new disaster crops up.  A friend in high school once nick named me the daughter of Job. She wasn't kidding.  She also apparently wasn't wrong.

<div>The kids know housing and support for  4 adults is expensive, esp as we're very close to our retirement years (at which point our income will be fixed and things get even tougher) . With the way town taxes are increasing, we may have to move after retirement- another added worry. People on the ASD spectrum don't handle change well. This is the only home they've ever known. All my own immediate family are long gone, for over a decade. My husband parents are gone,  he has 2 siblings who don't live anywhere close- one is in a support home for serious medical issues. It all adds up to a very large pile of worry and very little emotional or practical support. I always dreamed of having a large family. Instead the 4 of us are "last man standing" (which has caused its own sorrow &amp; woe,  esp to my kids. They miss not having more family.  So do I.

<div>They both really want to get jobs and pursue their dreams- and I know with the right supports, they can. That's how the whole concept of this convention started- golden networking opportunities in driving distance! It seems like the exact opportunity they need. But every time I've gotten a few dollars saved, another crisis hits. (The current one is my daughter's ESA cat. She's had her since kittenhood and is her whole world. The cat got sick in October, then got better, then developed an eye issue that we are still treating. There's still some small hope it will self resolve (and I'm praying hard because that's $5000 I do not have either. ) I've already spent $2500 since September on the cat. We're cautiously optimistic, but we're not out of the woods yet. But I can't overstate the importance of this cat to her. ) But that's on top of everything else. And there's always seems to be another thing, every day.

<div>My kids need to go to this convention. It could open major doors for their future. I bought the (non refundable $$$) passes months ago. It's gas, food, hotel &amp; parking I don't have. While we have a discounted convention rate room (about 50% off), it's still a Major expense, because Boston. We're (hopefully) there 5 nights. I have such strong hopes &amp; dreams for them and feel like this opportunity is key- if I can just get them there. They deserve this and so much more,  they're really great kids and good humans. They may be quirky but they have loathe hearts and just want to belong,  to live and be loved.  This is a chance to move towards that- if only.

<div>It's humiliating to beg from strangers-i was raised to do things on my own and I've had to swallow a few dozen buckets of pride to even write this. But between my health &amp; surgeries, and all the other expenses, it just hasn't been possible to find the money this time. And I'm running out of time-i have to finalize by the 16th.  Yes, in 6 days. My kids don't collect SSI or SNAP or MEDICAID- they're proud, they want to try to care for themselves. They want to contribute. They just need to meet the right people and get the chance. The funds are to pay for the hotel &amp; parking, gas &amp; food (we have to be in walking distance, one doesn't drive, I don't drive at night-9 eye surgeries- and they need to be able to come and go easily. ) I didn't even buy myself a pass-too much $$. I'll just make sandwiches in the room and pray.

They deserve to have something work out right for them for a change, they've had more trauma, loss &amp; disappointment in their short lives than most full grown adults have. I love them with all my soul. I don't want to fail them on this.

Sheep’s Head Peninsula Challenge

<div>Maura Snow is part of a team of immigration support people from the Merrimack Valley Project. We have been assisting an asylum seeker using the name Marius to protect him from people who still seek to do him harm. (The picture is blurry by design - a shot of him with the bandage used after head surgery was performed via the nasal passage.)<br /><br />

<div>“Marius” left Togo in Africa in 2018. His parents were assassinated in a political action. Prior to leaving, he was kidnapped and beaten. He booked passage on a commercial freighter to South America and made his way north until he reached the U.S. border and, ultimately, Massachusetts.<br /><br />
</div>

<div>Marius has been living and working in Massachusetts (a work permit has been granted for the lengthy wait for an asylum hearing).  Recently, he was temporarily disabled by the after-effects of the head trauma he received from the gang that kidnapped him in Africa. He has had surgery to correct the injury and is receiving excellent medical care. A full recovery is anticipated. He should be able to return to work this summer.<br /><br />

<div>He has not been able to work since the injury became disabling. As a result, he needs assistance with rent money for approximately two or three months. His rent is $1,600 per month. We are also raising funds for legal fees related to his upcoming asylum hearing. Any funds received beyond our current needs will go to other immigrant support outreach in our area.

An asylum seeker's journey - can you help?

Our son Rob and his wife Su have been married for 10 years. In 2020, they were overjoyed to receive the news of a pregnancy. Shortly after that glorious news, their good news doubled with the appearance of identical twin girls on an ultrasound. Little did they know at that time, identical twin pregnancies have the potential to be fraught with obstacles. The 20 week ultrasound revealed parameters for an official diagnosis of Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS - Learn more about TTTS here: <br /><br /><a href="https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/twintotwin-transfusion-syndrome-ttts#:~:text=Twin-to-twin%20transfusion%20syndrome%20(TTTS)%20is%20a,for%20development%20in%20the%20wom" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome</a> <br /><br /><br />They wasted no time in rushing to the hospital for TTTS laser ablation surgery. Unfortunately, the doctor's first attempt at surgery at 21 weeks pregnant was not successful and they almost lost one baby. The doctor tried surgery again at 22 weeks pregnant and this time it was a success! <br /><br />Both babies were saved! Unfortunately, within a day after coming home, Su started having frequent, strong, early contractions. She has been in the hospital since that time receiving an intravenous drip of an extremely expensive drug that stops the contractions. Any attempt to lower the dosage results in contractions so she will need to spend the rest of the pregnancy in the hospital on the drug being monitored.<br /><br />Su is currently 28 weeks pregnant with many more weeks of hospitalization ahead. Rob and Su live in South Korea, and their health care does not have a provision for the drug she is taking nor for the extended hospitalization required. <br /><br />Bills are piling up and they are expecting to spend at least $30,000 out of pocket. (There is no out-of-pocket maximum in the system there.) If you have the resources, we would be grateful for anything you can contribute. These lovely little ladies have been through so much and they have not even been born yet. We appreciate anything you can offer. Thank you so much.

This week, the difficult decision was made for Mike to enter into hospice care.<br /><br />Throughout his illness, Mike’s wife Crystal has been juggling caring for Mike and raising their beautiful 6-year-old daughter Emily. There have of course been significant costs associated with this serious long-term illness, and many expenses related to hospice care will not be covered by insurance. While Mike and his family are going through this difficult time, we want to help ensure that the Stewart family can spend their time focusing on each other.<br /><br />Many of you -- friends, family, coworkers -- of both Mike and Crystal, have been looking for ways to help. *****UPDATE***** Nelson was detained on Jan 17th by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Against the judges wishes ICE pushed through community members and detained Nelson in from of his partner and daughter. Now more then ever Nelson needs your support. His partner and daughter are going to continue supporting Nelson by pursuing deportation relief for him. To be able to continue that legal push they need your financial support Nelson Fuentes is a new father, husband, and Cosecha member who is currently fighting to stay with his newborn daughter and the rest of their family here in the United States. Nelson encountered local law enforcement and ICE in New Hampshire in early 2019, and was detained for several months. After much pressure from the community, he was released from detention under ICE supervision. He has been fighting for deportation relief ever since so he can stay with his family in their home in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Now is a critical time in Nelson's fight. January 17th, 2020, is his final federal court appearance. Nelson will either be detained by ICE and sent back to detention, or he will be allowed to stay with his family in their home, under continued ICE supervision. Whatever the outcome, he needs financial community support for his legal fees, and if he is detained he will need support financially supporting his partner and newborn. Nelson's newborn daughter lived the first few months of her life away from her father - while Nelson was in detention. Nelson does not want to relive that experience, without the ability to support his partner take care of their baby in this first year of her daughter's life. Nelson is asking for your support. The community and allies will mobilize and join Nelson and his family to court and we are asking if you cannot make it to still support Nelson by donating to him.

Because Nelson is currently in immigration detention the funds will go directly to his sister Alma. The intent of these funds are to be used to reimburse her for past legal expenses and any future legal expenses that will help plead Nelson's case to stay in the United States with his family.

Keep Nelson with His Family

<strong>Marius</strong> is a Togolese asylum-seeker, who has recently moved to Lowell to fight for asylum in the Boston federal immigration courts. Marius comes from a family of political dissidents fighting for greater democracy, and was forced to flee his country after his parents were murdered by the government. He has been threatened everywhere he's tried to rebuild his life, and last year decided to journey across South and North America to seek asylum in the United States. Marius’ resilience and faith are inspiring.  Despite everything he has been through, Marius remains hopeful that he can now find a permanent home right here in the United States. <br /><br /><strong>But Marius cannot do it alone.</strong> The Merrimack Valley Interfaith Sanctuary Network is providing housing for him, but he also needs funds for legal, medical and living expenses. This fundraiser has a target goal of $12,000 to cover <strong>the first 6 months of Marius’ stay</strong> (at which point he hopes to receive a work permit), with the full knowledge that he may very well need additional time and financial resources to win permanent residence in the USA. <br /><br />Please donate as generously as you can, to help this incredible human remain here and make a life for himself in the peace and safety each human deserves.

I am hoping to raise some funding for my sister Linda for medical services as she is in critical condition. She is suffering from pneumonia, sepsis, and a life threatening lung disease called ARDS.  She is improving every day but is still in ICU.   Our hope is that she will be released before Christmas.  She has been in the hospital since Nov 17th. The medical bills for this visit will be nothing short of outrageous.  She does have insurance, but it doesn't cover it all.   <br />Many of you know Linda.  She is an amazing lady who has the heart and compassion of a giant.  She is always giving to everyone and asks for nothing in return.  Now she needs your help.  So I am asking you to help my sister, who I love with all my heart.  Many of you know her and love her.  I am so amazed at the out poor of love she has gotten from everyone. Thank you for taking the time to view this page. Let me begin by explaining a little bit about my father Daniel. He's known to most as 'Big D'. His size is the obvious reason he earned this moniker, but almost everyone that knows him can tell you that he has a big sense of humor and an even bigger heart. <br /><br />My father lives in the Atlanta, GA area and is a truck driver by trade. Several months ago, while on the job, he was involved in an accident. No one lost their lives thankfully but he did not walk away unscathed. Unfortunately my father suffered a major knee injury during the ordeal. Needless to say he was unable to work and while workman's comp WAS paying him a VERY small amount of money, he is not making nearly enough to pay for his bills. Months later, stressed out, still out of work, and before he could be cleared for knee surgery doctor's found that he had 3 major blockages in the arteries to his heart and was at high risk of a fatal heart attack. He immediately needed to go in for a bypass surgery.<br /><br />The surgery was successful but due to complications, and several more invasive procedures he was comatose for nearly 3 weeks. Within that time, his wife-to-be Karen has been by his side and working part-time to try and alleviate some of their debts but is having a very hard time making enough money to pay bills.<br /><br />Which leads us into today. Currently Daniel is in a rehabilitation facility. Both him and his wife are close to being evicted out of their home, their car repossesed, no means to keep food in the house, and debt piling up every single day. Dan is trying to get better so that he can get cleared for knee surgery and hopefully get back to work. But in all honesty we don't really know how long this recovery is going to take. And with the stress of financial burdens continuosly stacking up my father continues to be stressed and upset which impedes him from getting better and puts him at a higher risk for more heart complications.<br /><br />We humbly turn to you; family, friends, and the good patrons of GoFundMe, and we're asking for your help. I have started a page to try and raise enough money for him so that bills can be paid and financial burdens are put at bay until he can make a full recovery. This situation is urgent. EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND

<strong>My name is Rich and this is the hardest letter I have ever written. I live down the shore in Little Egg Harbor NJ, since 1980. I worked for the Post Office for 23 years but became sick/injured and had to retire two years shy of a full pension. My wife and I had a Graphics Business which we started but because of my illness we didn't get to take that very far. I had been in very good shape as I turned my two car garage into a gym. Even though I was in very good shape, lifting light weights doing high reps I still suffered an injury to my shoulder which was operated and fixed well. I then had my right shoulder needing a surgery, but this time my Physician wanted to Scope it, as opposed to "The Open Procedure" that I had done on my left. Many friends, including my former Doctor up in Edison advised me not to have the Scope". My Doctor told me he was following the Insurance Companies Protocol and had to Scope it. I had the surgery, which was done by my Doctor under the instruction of a Licensed Arthroscopic Physician. The surgery turned out to be a nightmare! My Doctor had sutured through the Brachial Plexus Bundle,( which is a Bundle of nerves) and caused me what I call the "Beginning of the Domino effect".I had 3 further surgeries to try and fix the "problem" my Doctor caused but none were successful. I then went to a "Specialist" of the shoulder in Philadelphia who told me afer the surgery that the "scar tissue" was incredible and would return in less than 30 days. He was right! He also told my wife and I that "this would take 20 years or more off my life". We looked at each other in dismay. I could not take the medicines he was giving me because they made me very sick. I chose an alternative "pain relief method" that did work decently. I was taking Corticosteroids, Depomedrol packs, Prednisone, and Shots in the areas where the "nerve damage" was. What was not told to me was the damage that happens when you use them too long. I developed type 2 Diabetes and I now knew what the "Specialist" meant by losing twenty years or more off my life. First I wound up seeing a Podiatrist who was supposed to be a Diabetic Specialist who took out "joints in each toe that he claimed were infected. It then turned to losing my right Big toe with a few others because I was developing Pressure Ulcers". That soon became a waste of time as the pressure ulcers became worse. I sought treatment at Deborah Hospital who advised me that I needed my right foot amputated. Being he was a Vascular Surgeon I was sent back to my Podiatrist. He amputated most of my right foot but low and behold, I wasn't done yet. I had gone to several other Physicians for a second and third opinion, all who either didn't want to "get involved" or agreed with him.Then what was promised wouldn't come back, did, the Pressure Ulcers started now on my Heels. My Podiatrist (Debrided them both one time a week).That's where he takes Necrotic tissue(Dead skin)so new skin would grow. It wasn't working and I then had soft tissue infections in both Heels.Now my visits were 3 times a week. This went on for a long period of time, about 6 months. In total I had been relegated to my home for over 2 years without being allowed to go out except to the Doctors and I could not shower for 6 months. Finally, one nite as I was walking into the kitchen I hear a crack, I thought it was the floor, but when I hit the ground I knew it was my Heel. My Doctor was in Italy so I found a Doctor who saw me right away, only to be told I had Gangrene in both legs and had to get to the Hospital right away. I did, and had emergency surgery on both Heels. Now I've had a machine on both heels to take the fluids out and to prevent Bleeding. I forgot to mention I've been on IV Antibiotics for 27 weeks. I am so behind on all my utilities, not to mention the house, car payments(which sits in the driveway needing $495 worth of brakes) plus I have 4 nurses coming in every week. I have a pension but it does not come close to covering all the co-pays for Doctor visits or the nurses. I have contacted the County's Emergency Response but there is such a long list all my utilities will be shut off, my car will be repossed and food is very scarce. I've been on Face Book, getting something I really needed, which was the "will to keep fighting", and with all the kind people who have sent me prayers I have managed to keep fighting, but my wife is also sick with RA/Lupus and is not able to help as she is on Chemo &amp; Humira, hence the reason for the nurses.I didn't think, never needing this kind of help that things would turn out like this. I lost all my brothers a couple of years back, who were concerned for me, ironic isn't it? I have two boys, 22 and 29 and two neices and a nephew, who have "chipped in" to help, but it seems we are way over our heads and I am not only desperate to keep my faith to hang on, but to see what Ive done, being this sick, to my family destroys me. I know there are so many out there just like me, which makes me feel even more guilty to ask for help, but I have run out of all other options. If you can give, I would appreciate it more than you'll ever know, but I have had so many people pray for me, and I am still here, so maybe there is hope. My illness has devasted us! Help!

Hi, this is Roger Smith, one of the cofounders of TheChristianLeft.org.  As many of you know, we are a shoestring organization (and sometimes even the shoestring is held together by a few knots!), we do our work on this voluntarily and only ever put out personal appeals when there is genuine need that we're personally unable to meet. In this case one of our admins, Mike George, is close to getting his head above water after a long struggle to find work, and is also diligent about finding ways to drastically reduce his living costs. <br /><br />One of Mike's special passions is helping the homeless, but in this case just when he was about to get solid footing, a new job dropped out from under his feet (through false representation by an employer) and, unless he lands another job almost immediately, he is likely to face homelessness himself in the next couple of weeks. All of you know that this job market still isn't exactly swimming with jobs. <br /><br />Mike has been as diligent about searching for work as he has about working for The Christian Left, helping others in need, and everything else; and as for unemployment benefits, even those had been drained during his job search. I myself was unemployed for a full fourteen months from 2011-2012, applying for sometimes dozens of jobs a day, and thank God I found work literally just as my last unemployment extension had run out ... so I know firsthand the desperate race against time to try to find work while money to live on is draining away.<br /><br />For Mike's part, at the moment (27 Jan.) he has two interviews lined up that look very promising, so help may be around the corner ... but of course an actual paycheck would still be two or more weeks in coming. His extended family likewise struggles, and are unable to help him cross this last gap; his savings and credit have been tapped out in day-to-day survival. Mike has learned of a number of "intentional communities" in his hometown of Chicago, where rent is low and the members devote from their free time to help others in the community, the very thing Mike already does whenever he has a chance ... so he is looking for housing opportunities among those communities, and in that case everyone would win.<br /><br />This is one more opportunity for The Christian Left community to demonstrate what it does so well, to support one another as we then find ways to keep paying that forward. Every cent of funds raised in this GoFundMe campaign (except for a very small percentage that GoFundMe automatically keeps for their operating costs) will go to help Mike bridge the gap and not find himself homeless just when he is about to reach solid ground. It is also an investment in an honest soul who wants to put his life even more into helping others less fortunate, and experiences like this have certainly given him that much more empathy.<br /><br />This is what we do at The Christian Left ... put Jesus' love into action for one another.
