One of my previous residents. I'm a disabled veteran. I wanted to do something to help my community which has little to no resources for homeless people and no sober living houses. So I made my house a sober living house of sorts.

Since my husband Troy passed away in May 2019, I’ve dedicated myself to helping homeless people and recovering addicts in my community. i'm a disabled Navy Veteran.Over the past seven years, I’ve taken in six people, and two currently live with me, along with my adult daughter who has a traumatic brain injury and my youngest who has autism. My home, lovingly called 'Mattie Rose’s Home for Hopeless Souls,' is just a three-bedroom with a mother-in-law suite, but it’s been a safe haven for many wonderful people who were down on their luck—including myself, right now. For six years, I managed to keep things afloat, even as tenants lost jobs and expenses grew. I sacrificed my own credit to protect theirs, and now I find myself a month behind on bills. Two tenants are working again, which helps, but I’m still struggling to catch up. I borrowed from paycheck apps and took on a car payment with a high interest rate, just to keep everyone cared for. My bills are piling up, and I’m humbling myself to ask for help so I can continue supporting those who rely on me. The funds raised will cover overdue bills, mortgage, utilities, phone, car payment, insurance, groceries, and supplies for everyone living here. If I receive more than requested, I’ll use it to refinance my car and reduce the financial strain. This home has given me purpose and kept my husband’s spirit alive. Any support—financial or moral—is a blessing. God bless you if you can help, and God bless you more if you can’t.
