I’m creating this GoFundMe on behalf of Heather and her husband, Rafael, who are facing an urgent and unexpected immigration crisis. Rafael is from Venezuela. Before he ever met Heather, U.S. Border Patrol determined he faced a credible threat to his life in his home country. Because of this, he was legally allowed to enter and remain in the U.S. under parole while awaiting his asylum case. During that time, Heather and Rafael met, fell in love, and built a life together in McKinney, Texas. They were married on a sunny Friday at the courthouse in McKinney, Texas. Heather is a U.S. citizen and legally petitioned for Rafael’s residency. With the guidance of an immigration attorney, they followed every step of the process. After their interview, they were told to expect Rafael’s green card within 30–60 days. The very next day, approvals like theirs were paused. Last Thursday, Rafael was detained by ICE and is currently being held at a detention center about an hour and a half from McKinney. Rafael is not a criminal. He followed the rules and relied on legal counsel every step of the way. His detention has been devastating for their family. Heather is a Texas teacher who serves her community every day, and the funds raised will go toward urgent legal fees and supporting their family during this sudden loss of income. This fundraiser is not about politics. It’s about due process and keeping a family together. If you’re able to donate, thank you. If not, sharing this means just as much. Your support helps ensure Rafael’s case is heard fairly and that Heather and Rafael can get through this moment together.

The Nesbitt's ( Hallie, Elijah, Grady, and Callahan) insurance only covers a certain amount of time for their in-home nurse Jay. Since July they have been paying him out of pocket and this has become extremely difficult to maintain. Jay has become family as he knows their medically disabled son and what care and monitoring he needs . Callahan, two, was born with hydrocephalus and is also blind, partially deaf, has a G-tube, has daily seizures, is completely immobile and does not qualify for Medicaid. Cal is also on several waitlists: 3,250 MDCP 1,669 DBMD 88,755 CLASS For years Hallie has run her small business Grady Ln Boutique in McKinney, Texas. From coffee shops, bookstores, or festivals you have seen their work. We are asking to help make some breathing room for our neighbor by coming together to give to the Nesbitt family to help support Cal's essential in-home care. Every donation, big or small, truly makes a difference. "If you have what you need today, give what others need tomorrow."
